Colour has the potential to influence people’s emotions and behaviour. However, there is little empirical research exploring in depth how colour influences performance. This study focuses on exploring the impact of colour on two particular responses: impulsivity and arousal. Response time and error rate were used as two indicators to define the levels of impulsivity and arousal. The impact of colour on impulsivity, arousal, and emotions were investigated in detail. To achieve this goal, three psychophysical experiments were conducted to explore the impact of hue and chroma on impulsivity and arousal; and how colour influences impulsivity, arousal and colour emotions such as colour heat. The hue and chroma experiments were designed to determine whether, in a particular colour environment, response time and error rate of the participants were different across different hues and chroma levels. Participants were required to complete a range of screen-based psychometric tests with different colour backgrounds. During the experiment, participants were asked to give their responses to each test as quickly and accurately as possible. The results showed that background hue and chroma differences significantly influence response time and error rate. This suggests that colour has a distinctive influence on impulsivity and arousal. Hue has a greater influence on arousal than impulsivity while chroma affect impulsivity more than arousal. The impact of colour on impulsivity and arousal were also considered with different psychometric test types, different genders and colour preference. To explore the impact of colour on impulsivity, arousal and emotions, the emotion experiment was designed to study ten emotion scales. Participants were asked to report their emotional responses to 20 colours both on cardboard and textile fabric based on ten emotion scales. The reliability of Ou’s (2004) colour emotion models for single colour have been verified using the experimental data in this study. This result suggested that colour influence on impulsivity and arousal can be linked with other emotions. The finding from this study can be applied in various affective design, such as product packaging, consumer purchasing, education efficiency and so forth

Text2Street: Controllable Text-to-image Generation for Street Views

Text-to-image generation has made remarkable progress with the emergence of diffusion models. However, it is still a difficult task to generate images for street views based on text, mainly because the road topology of street scenes is complex, the traffic status is diverse and the weather condition is various, which makes conventional text-to-image models difficult to deal with. To address these challenges, we propose a novel controllable text-to-image framework, named \textbf{Text2Street}. In the framework, we first introduce the lane-aware road topology generator, which achieves text-to-map generation with the accurate road structure and lane lines armed with the counting adapter, realizing the controllable road topology generation. Then, the position-based object layout generator is proposed to obtain text-to-layout generation through an object-level bounding box diffusion strategy, realizing the controllable traffic object layout generation. Finally, the multiple control image generator is designed to integrate the road topology, object layout and weather description to realize controllable street-view image generation. Extensive experiments show that the proposed approach achieves controllable street-view text-to-image generation and validates the effectiveness of the Text2Street framework for street views

The digital archive of cultural heritage provides new opportunities for the protection of the cultural heritage and the development of online museums. One of the essential requirements for the digitization is to achieve accurate color reproduction. Taking the Imperial Chinese robes in the Qing Dynasty as an example, this study aims to develop a digital achieve system to digitize the robes using a high-end imaging system and accurately reproduce their color properties on a display. Currently, there has been very limited study focused on the color reproduction of silk fabrics or other textile materials. The conventional color management process using a traditional color chart, however, may not be suitable for the reproduction of silk fabrics because they have very high gloss. To address this difficulty, a unique “Qianlong Palette” color chart, consisting of 210 silk fabric samples, has been specifically produced for optimizing the color reproduction of silk fabrics and a color image reproduction system has been developed for the digitization and archiving of the clothing fabric for the royal court. Color characterization models using both the “Qianlong Palette” color chart and the traditional color chart, and different mapping methods, are compared and the model with highest accuracy used in a self-programmed interface for automatically processing textile images in the future. Finally, the digital archive system has been validated using six garments of silk fabric relics. The color differences after the color image reproduction are all less than 3.00ΔE*ab, indicating acceptable color reproduction of the system. The images after color reproduction have also been evaluated subjectively by experts from the museum and the results are considered satisfactory. Our results show that the newly designed “Qianlong Palette” color chart exhibits superior performance over the conventional color chart in effectively predicting the color of the silk fabrics. The self-programmed graphical user interface for image color management can serve as a powerful tool to truly reproduce the color of various silk fabric relics in museums in the future and digitally archive those valuable cultural relics for different uses

This paper reports on the NTIRE 2024 Quality Assessment of AI-Generated Content Challenge, which will be held in conjunction with the New Trends in Image Restoration and Enhancement Workshop (NTIRE) at CVPR 2024. This challenge is to address a major challenge in the field of image and video processing, namely, Image Quality Assessment (IQA) and Video Quality Assessment (VQA) for AI-Generated Content (AIGC). The challenge is divided into the image track and the video track. The image track uses the AIGIQA-20K, which contains 20,000 AI-Generated Images (AIGIs) generated by 15 popular generative models. The image track has a total of 318 registered participants. A total of 1,646 submissions are received in the development phase, and 221 submissions are received in the test phase. Finally, 16 participating teams submitted their models and fact sheets. The video track uses the T2VQA-DB, which contains 10,000 AI-Generated Videos (AIGVs) generated by 9 popular Text-to-Video (T2V) models. A total of 196 participants have registered in the video track. A total of 991 submissions are received in the development phase, and 185 submissions are received in the test phase. Finally, 12 participating teams submitted their models and fact sheets. Some methods have achieved better results than baseline methods, and the winning methods in both tracks have demonstrated superior prediction performance on AIGC

Realistic traffic generation for efficient web application fuzzing

Black-box API testing is a common way to locate reliability and security bugs in closed-source RESTful services. Such testing technique relies heavily on the OpenAPI specification of the RESTful services, which are often not provided. Therefore, a prototype tool was developed to generate OpenAPI specification of a target RESTful service by processing its traffic. Previously, the traffic fed into the formatter tool was manually generated by interacting with the target service by a real user. In this project, we use Selenium, an automated web testing framework to generate such traffic in a reliable and efficient way. Meanwhile, we offer a significant improvement to the current formatter by supporting path parameter identification. Lastly, we evaluate the quality between manually written OpenAPI specification by examining the source code, and the quality of generated specification by processing its traffic.Bachelor of Engineering (Computer Science

Background: Fierce international competition drives companies to reconsider how to approach the global market. Strategies, such as offshoring and outsourcing are commonly implemented to realize cost reduction and better profit performance. However, an increasing number of studies indicate that a growing trend of industrial production moving from previous offshore outsourcing sites back to their home/neighboring countries (i.e. from low-cost to high-cost regions), which the phenomenon is also called manufacturing reshoring. The drivers behind of it are diverse. Simultaneously, most of the existing researches investigate the reshoring phenomenon from the perspective of either reshoring initiators’ (western company) or their home country, while few study has been carried on by standing on the host countries’ point of view.        Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to investigate and verify the current existing reshoring drivers, which were suggested based on western manufacturers’ perspective, from Chinese supplier companies’ view. Firstly, the reshoring drivers of the framework will be carefully explored in the cases. Secondly, based on the empirical findings, the similarities and differences comparing with the literature will be presented, and the implications of research findings will be given.      Method: This research is conducted through qualitative case studies of six companies under the deductive methodology. The framework of reshoring drivers is based on comprehensive literature review. The empirical data is collected through semi-structured interviews and secondary data. To have a thorough understanding of our findings, the individual case analyses are the foundation of the final cross-case analysis.      Conclusion: Thirty-three reshoring drivers are investigated and verified from a host country’s perspective. These factors are identified through reviewing 17 peer-reviewed articles and categorized into five dimensions: “Buyer”, “Supplier”, “Home country”, “Host country”, and “Global competitive dynamics” aiming for better understanding the current phenomenon of revoking offshore outsourcing. The research acquires the valuable findings regarding reshoring through interviewing six Chinese companies. Moreover, the similarities and differences of our empirical findings comparing academic research are analyzed. The implication of this study can contribute to the academic field to have a different point of view for understanding manufacturing reshoring.Reshoring I

    A Design for a Manufacturing-Constrained Off-Axis Four-Mirror Reflective System

    No full text
Off-axis reflective optical systems find wide applications in various industries, but the related manufacturing issues have not been well considered in the design process. This paper proposed a design method for cylindrical reflective systems considering manufacturing constraints to facilitate ultra-precision raster milling. An appropriate index to evaluate manufacturing constraints is established. The optimization solution is implemented for the objective function composed of primary aberration coefficients with weights and constraint conditions of the structural configuration by introducing the genetic algorithm. The four-mirror initial structure with a good imaging quality and a special structural configuration is then obtained. The method’s feasibility is validated by designing an off-axis four-mirror afocal system with an entrance pupil diameter of 170 mm, a field of view of 3° × 3° and a compression ratio of five times. All mirrors in the system are designed to be distributed along a cylinder
