In-Service Teacher Education

The purpose of this study was to perceive the needs of the faculty of the Warren County R-III School District in the area of in-service teacher education. The instrument used in the study was a survey designed by the author and arranged to secure data that would give demographic information as well as obtain information for a needs assessment. The survey was distributed to the teachers through the school mailboxes . After the information was collected, it was tallied, charted, and analyzed . In summarizing the study, it can be concluded that: 1) all teachers realize the need for in- service training, 2) the majority of teachers are willing to participate in in- service education experiences, 3) the majority of teachers favor a reward system for in- service education, 4) they believe that, to be most effective, teachers should plan and conduct their own in-service education, and 5) there is a difference in the needs of experienced teachers as opposed to the needs of the less experienced teachers. As a result of this information, a format has been devised that will greatly improve the quality of in-service training in the school district. This form will be presented to the school administration and the Warrenton Teachers\u27 Association with a recommendation that it be adopted and pursued

Tacit and Explicit Knowledge in Software Development Projects: A Combined Model for Analysis

The development of new or updated software packages by software companies often involves the specification of new features and functionality required by customers, who may already be using a version of the software package. The on-going development and upgrade of such packages is the norm, and the effective management of knowledge in this process is critical to achieving successful enhancement of the package in line with customer expectations. Human interaction within the software development process becomes a key focus, and knowledge transfer an essential mechanism for delivering software to quality standards and within agreed timescales and budgetary constraints. This article focuses on the role and nature of knowledge within the context of software development, and puts forward a combined conceptual model to aid in the understanding of individual and group tacit knowledge in this business and operational environment

Binding between the neural cell adhesion molecules axonin-1 and Nr- CAM/Bravo is involved in neuron-glia interaction

Neural cell adhesion molecules of the immunoglobulin superfamily mediate cellular interactions via homophilic binding to identical molecules and heterophilic binding to other family members or structurally unrelated cell-surface glycoproteins. Here we report on an interaction between axonin-1 and Nr-CAM/Bravo. In search for novel ligands of axonin-1, fluorescent polystyrene microspheres conjugated with axonin-1 were found to bind to peripheral glial cells from dorsal root ganglia. By antibody blockage experiments an axonin-1 receptor on the glial cells was identified as Nr-CAM. The specificity of the interaction was confirmed with binding studies using purified axonin-1 and Nr-CAM. In cultures of dissociated dorsal root ganglia antibodies against axonin-1 and Nr-CAM perturbed the formation of contacts between neurites and peripheral glial cells. Together, these results implicate a binding between axonin-1 of the neuritic and Nr-CAM of the glial cell membrane in the early phase of axon ensheathment in the peripheral nervous system

Tacit and Explicit Knowledge in Software Development Projects: Towards a Conceptual Framework for Analysis

The management and delivery of software development projects remains a key business activity in many industries. Although the advent of packaged software products has reduced the incidence of in-house development, bespoke software is still important for some industrial sectors - notably in the finance, defence and security industries. Despite the recognized criticality of software project success for organizations, a considerable proportion of projects continue to either not meet their due dates, exceed budget, do not deliver to specification, miss quality targets, or do not meet customer requirements. Software project failure – be it bespoke products or the implementation of commercially available packages - remains an area of considerable interest in contemporary software project management literature, and the management and transfer of knowledge within both these types of project is a key dimension and driver of project outcomes. This paper examines how knowledge definition and management can be applied within a conceptual framework to improve software development project outcomes
