Lexico-thematic Coherence in the Waste Land

The general accusation against most of the post war literature regarding its incoherent and fragmentary nature has been widely accepted. Contrary to this allegation, I understand that despite being sketchy or fractional at the outset, modern literature does have internal unity. Without such an integrated organizational pattern, no piece of literature can qualify the test of time. The same applies to the Waste Land, a landmark in the 20th Century. Deeper level analyses at the aesthetic and semantic levels highlight an explicit coherent pattern in the poem. The specific lexical choice within the five parts of the poem demonstrates thematic development both at the individual parts and the entire poem as a whole. Thus, one observes that the Waste Land is an organic body composed of five disproportionate parts, all made up of the same lexico-thematic constituents. </p

Higher education institutions have undergone extensive changes and drastic reforms with a dynamic agenda to improve quality in teaching- learning environment. These institutions are now implementing more systematic and formalized systems for enhancing quality. This study aims at exploring and comparing the teaching-learning quality indicators from the perspectives of graduating students through descriptive survey approach. Sample was selected through random sampling technique and data collection instrument was a five point Likert-type scale questionnaire. Quality indicators are specified as organization of course content, students’ contribution towards learning, learning environment, learning resources, quality of content delivery, assessment, tutorial and practical. The results revealed that a major difference exist present between the responses of post-graduate students across three faculties. Management Sciences students scored higher on subscales of content organization, students’ contribution and tutorial whereas Social Sciences students had more emphasis on learning environment, learning resources and quality of content delivery. Languages students perceived practical as most important quality indicator. It was concluded that students may be sensitized to give authentic feedback for improvement of learning environment. In addition to this, students’ participation may be enhanced in external reviews of programs. Lastly, teachers may be given training to improve teaching competence

Ferdinand De Saussure is considered the founder of structuralism. He presented a Linguistic Model which is entirely different from historical concept of language. On the basis of this model, structuralism and structural criticism began in linguistic and literary criticism. structural criticism is a study of literary text from the structural point view as Marxist and psychological criticism examine a text in Marxism and psychological perspective. Discussions on structuralism in Urdu began in early eighties. Mira ji is one of the most prominent modern Urdu poets. This article presents a structural study of a poem of Mira ji and also present some articles written by different authors as example of structural criticism.

Towards Effective and Efficient Energy Management of Single Home and a Smart Community Exploiting Heuristic Optimization Algorithms with Critical Peak and Real-Time Pricing Tariffs in Smart Grids

Nowadays, automated appliances are exponentially increasing. Therefore, there is a need for a scheme to accomplish the electricity demand of automated appliances. Recently, many Demand Side Management (DSM) schemes have been explored to alleviate Electricity Cost (EC) and Peak to Average Ratio (PAR). In this paper, energy consumption problem in a residential area is considered. To solve this problem, a heuristic based DSM technique is proposed to minimize EC and PAR with affordable user’s Waiting Time (WT). In heuristic techniques: Bacterial Foraging Optimization Algorithm (BFOA) and Flower Pollination Algorithm (FPA) are implemented. Furthermore, a novel heuristic algorithm has been proposed by merging the best features of the aforementioned existing algorithms. We test the proposed scheme on single homes and on smart community (involving multiple households). Different Operational Time Intervals (OTIs) are also considered for implementation. We have performed simulations for validating the our scheme. Results clearly demonstrate that the proposed Hybrid Bacterial Flower Pollination Algorithm (HBFPA) shows efficacy for EC and for reduction of PAR with reasonable user WT
