    Corrigendum: Quantification and localization of Formylated Phloroglucinol Compounds (FPCs) in Eucalyptus Species

    Error in Figure/Table In the original article, there was a mistake in Figure 4 and Supplementary Table S2 as published. There was an error during the FPCs quantification process, whereby the ratio of injection volume between sample and standard was accidentally inverted. This error has resulted in the overestimation of FPCs concentration reported, but does not alter the biological significance of the results. The corrected Figure 4 appears below, and Supplementary Table S2 has been replaced in the original article. Furthermore, in the original article, there was an error in the results section where the number of total FPCs for different tissues of two species are cited. A correction has been made to the Results section, sub-section Detection and Quantification of FPCs, paragraph four: “From all species analyzed, E. camphora and E. globulus had the highest concentration of total FPCs in leaves, with 65 and 41mg g−1 DW, respectively (Figure 4, Supplementary Table S2). Eucalyptus camphora also had high concentration of FPCs in flower buds and flowers, with 13 and 12mg g−1 DW, respectively. Interestingly, three Eucalyptus species showed a tendency to accumulate more FPCs in flowers compared to the leaves. Eucalyptus leucoxylon, E. sideroxylon, and E. viminalis contained ~40, 5, and 3 times more total FPCs in the flowers compared to leaves, respectively Figure 4, Supplementary Table S2. Eucalyptus yarraensis presented very low amounts of FPCs in leaves and flower buds, and it is the only species that does not contain any sideroxylonals. Eucalyptus cladocalyx and C. ficifolia did not show any traces of this class of specialized metabolites in the tissues analyzed.

    Breast cancer is the most diagnosed cancer in women, and the second cause of cancer-related deaths among women worldwide. It is expected that more than 240,000 new cases and 40,450 deaths related to the disease will occur in 2016. It is well known that inherited genetic variants are drivers for breast cancer development. There are many mechanisms through which germline genetic variation affects prognosis, such as BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes, which account for approximately 20% of the increased hereditary risks. Therefore, it is evident that the genetic pathways that underlie cancer development are complex in which networks of multiple alleles confer disease susceptibility and risks. Global analyses through genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have revealed several loci across the genome are associated with the breast cancer. This chapter compiles all breast GWAS released since 2007, year of the first article published in this area, and discuss the future directions of this field. Currently, hundreds of genetic markers are linked to breast cancer, and understanding the underlying mechanisms of these variants might lead to the discover of biomarkers and targets for therapy in patients

    Use of homeopathic products in pigs feed improves the percentage, quality and marbling of meat

    Abstract Studies and innovations on alternative feed additives, especially on homeopathic remedies have been highlighted in order to replace or reduce the use of antibiotics in pig production. This paper aimed to assess the addition of homeopathic products in pig diet and their effects on the growth performance, serum metabolites, nutrient and energy digestibility, carcass traits and meat quality. A total of 60 immunocastrated male pigs, weighing on average 30.91 ± 0.95 kg, were distributed in two treatments, 10 replicates and three animals/experimental unit. There was no effect (P≥0.05) of treatment on the growth performance and serum metabolites. The percentage of acid-insoluble ash recovered in the diet was greater (P≤0.01) in diets containing homeopathic products. The apparent digestible energy of diets containing homeopathic products was reduced (P≤0.01) in the growing phase and reduced (P≤0.01) the apparent digestibility coefficients of dry matter, crude protein, soluble neutral and acid detergent fibers, and gross energy in the growing and finishing phases. Pig that received diets with homeopathic products had higher (P≤0.05) amount of meat, percentage of meat and marbling.
