Based on the premise that data from scientific investigations are usually stored on the researchers’ computers, discarded or even lost when the results are published in articles, making it impossible to produce new investigations, the present study sought to uncover the perceptions and practices adopted by the researchers from the postgraduation programs of of the brazilian northeast ecology in the management of scientific data, based on the emerging national and international phenomenon, e-Science, that transformed the way research data can be produced, disseminated, managed, shared and reused taking start at the data curation process. In the view of the above, the researchers from the postgraduation programs of the brazilian northeast ecology were questioned about the perceptions and practices adopted in the management of scientific data. This study is an exploratory research, that aims to increase the knowledge about the subject, and a qualitative and quantitative approach to analyze the data that were collected through the application of a questionnaire. It was concluded that the reality of data sharing through the proccess of curatorship is emerging, since some of the subjects of this research already use tools that help with the data management plan, and others have a great interest in increasing their knowledge about the practices of management of scientific data for later sharing.

The research investigated the practices and perceptions associated with data management by researchers in Brazilian postgraduate programs in the Information Science (IC) area. A semi-structured survey was used as the research instrument, it was sent by e-mail to 341 researchers linked to the Brazilian postgraduate programs in CI. The data was analyzed through descriptive statistics techniques and thematic analysis. It was found that the data management practices conducted by the researchers need to be improved and that they have a favorable approach regarding data sharing, provided there is some formal control over them

Get PDF

This research contextualizes the contemporary state of the scientific communication. The technological infrastructure, standards, protocols, tools, and methodologies are essential for scientific open data management. Our focus is on the scientific primary data and its sharing. It presents a experiment in which the prototype, named e-Quilt, is being developed. In its environment, an enhanced article and the scientific open data are presented. The research aims at adopting an infrastructure with standard and tool for upgrading the e-Quilt prototype. The adopted metadata standard was the Dublin Core. The technique was qualitative used for the independent and dependent variables. The analyze was focusing in the adequacy of the e-Quilt prototype in accordingly with the standard. The results presented that the enhanced article is complies with the Dublin Core standard

O26 Polysaccharides as Key Players in Enteropathogenic E. coli Immune Evasion and Vaccine Development

Enteropathogenic Escherichia coli (EPEC) produce a capsule of polysaccharides identical to those composing the O-antigen polysaccharide of its LPS (lipopolysaccharide) molecules. In light of this, the impact of O26 polysaccharides on the immune evasion mechanisms of capsulated O26 EPEC compared to non-capsulated enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli (EHEC) was investigated. Our findings reveal that there was no significant difference between the levels in EPEC and EHEC of rhamnose (2.8:2.5), a molecule considered to be a PAMP (Pathogen Associated Molecular Patterns). However, the levels of glucose (10:1.69), heptose (3.6:0.89) and N-acetylglucosamine (4.5:2.10), were significantly higher in EPEC than EHEC, respectively. It was also observed that the presence of a capsule in EPEC inhibited the deposition of C3b on the bacterial surface and protected the pathogen against lysis by the complement system. In addition, the presence of a capsule also protected EPEC against phagocytosis by macrophages. However, the immune evasion provided by the capsule was overcome in the presence of anti-O26 polysaccharide antibodies, and additionally, these antibodies were able to inhibit O26 EPEC adhesion to human epithelial cells. Finally, the results indicate that O26 polysaccharides can generate an effective humoral immune response, making them promising antigens for the development of a vaccine against capsulated O26 E. coli.</i
