Potential Use of Timber in Space

    Get PDF
The idea of this project is based on my previous studio project: Timber in the City. I was asked to use timber as the main material in my space design. The innovation of timber should not only in structure for architecture, but also interior, floor, insolation, furniture, etc. After visiting to the site, I notice the unquietness of the environment of the site is a horrible fact for living there. Therefore, I focus on researching the possible solution of noise cancelling with wood or timber material. Based on the research on wood walls, I integrated the waffle structural system with wood, and invented five different variations: the normal grid, the deeper grid, the dense grid, and angled grid, and the grid with holes. All of these proposals based on the theory of either inceasing touching surface or transferring direction as the way to control noise from my precedence study. The main body of this project is testing these wall devices to see if they are effective block or influence the sound intensity

From Data Fusion to Knowledge Fusion

The task of {\em data fusion} is to identify the true values of data items (eg, the true date of birth for {\em Tom Cruise}) among multiple observed values drawn from different sources (eg, Web sites) of varying (and unknown) reliability. A recent survey\cite{LDL+12} has provided a detailed comparison of various fusion methods on Deep Web data. In this paper, we study the applicability and limitations of different fusion techniques on a more challenging problem: {\em knowledge fusion}. Knowledge fusion identifies true subject-predicate-object triples extracted by multiple information extractors from multiple information sources. These extractors perform the tasks of entity linkage and schema alignment, thus introducing an additional source of noise that is quite different from that traditionally considered in the data fusion literature, which only focuses on factual errors in the original sources. We adapt state-of-the-art data fusion techniques and apply them to a knowledge base with 1.6B unique knowledge triples extracted by 12 extractors from over 1B Web pages, which is three orders of magnitude larger than the data sets used in previous data fusion papers. We show great promise of the data fusion approaches in solving the knowledge fusion problem, and suggest interesting research directions through a detailed error analysis of the methods.Comment: VLDB'201

Research on game scheduling of galvanizing pipe production

In this paper, we analyze and integrate the production process of "hot-dip galvanized steel pipe", the main product in the case enterprise and builds a model for the production scheduling with Cooperative Game Theory from the perspective of the enterprise. In order to get the Optimal Game Scheduling Solution, Genetic algorithm is used and Shaply value thought and β rule allocation method are combined to solve the problem of increased profit allocation in different customers. And fair and reasonable allocation mechanism is of great significance to the stability of the coalition and enterprise development

Modeling growth of specific spoilage organisms in tilapia: Comparison Baranyi with chi-square automatic interaction detection (CHAID) model

    Get PDF
Tilapia is an important aquatic fish, but severe spoilage of tilapia is most likely related to the global aquaculture. The spoilage is mostly caused by specific spoilage organisms (SSO). Therefore, it is very important to use microbial models to predict the growth of SSO in tilapia. This study firstly verified Pseudomonas and Vibrio as the SSO of tilapia, then established microbial growth models based on Baranyi and chi-square automatic interaction detection (CHAID) models and compared their effectiveness. The results showed that both Baranyi model and CHAID model are appropriate for predicting the growth of microorganism. Baranyi model fits the microorganism growth better than CHAID model overall though CHAID model fits well at stationary phase. CHAID model predicts the microorganism growth accurately when the rate of change of the experiment data is big.Key words: Specific spoilage organisms (SSO), tilapia, chi-square automatic interaction detection (CHAID), Baranyi, shelf-life

Chromatin Dynamics: Chromatin Remodeler, Epigenetic Modification and Diseases

    Get PDF
The gene transcription patterns are regulated in response to extracellular stimuli and intracellular development programs. Recent studies have shown that chromatin dynamics which include nucleosome dynamics and histone modification play a crucial role in gene expression. Chromatin dynamic is regulated by chromatin modification enzymes including chromatin remodeling complex and histone posttranslational modifications. Multiple studies have shown that chromatin dynamics dysregulation and aberrant and histone modifications resulted in the occurrence of various diseases and cancers. Moreover, frequent mutations and chromosomal aberrations in the genes associated with subunits of the chromatin remodeling complexes have been detected in various cancer types. In this review, we highlight the current understanding of orchestration of nucleosome position, histone modification, and the importance of these properly regulated dynamics. We also discuss the consequences of aberrant chromatin dynamic which results in disease progression and provides insights for potential clinic applications
