IMPACTS OF INCOME DISTRIBUTION ON MARKET DEMAND

    Get PDF
This study develops a procedure to estimate income distribution effects on market demand. The proposed procedure contains two steps: estimation of the underlying income distribution and estimation of market demand. Empirical findings show that the income distribution effect is a significant factor in the demand for meat products.Consumer/Household Economics, Demand and Price Analysis,

Rank one lattice type vertex operator algebras and their automorphism groups, II: E-series

    Get PDF
Let L be the A_1 root lattice and G a finite subgroup of Aut(V_L), where VLV_L is the associated lattice VOA (in this case, Aut(V) is isomorphic to PSL(2,\Bbb C)). The fixed point subVOA, V^G was studied in q-alg/9710017, which finds a set of generators and determines the automorphism group when G is cyclic (from the "A-series") or dihedral (from the "D-series"). In the present article, we obtain analogous results for the remaining possibilities for G, that it belong to the "E-series": G\cong Alt_4, Alt_5 or Sym_4.Comment: Latex, 10 page

Framed vertex operator algebras, codes and the moonshine module

For a simple vertex operator algebra whose Virasoro element is a sum of commutative Virasoro elements of central charge 1/2, two codes are introduced and studied. It is proved that such vertex operator algebras are rational. For lattice vertex operator algebras and related ones, decompositions into direct sums of irreducible modules for the product of the Virasoro algebras of central charge 1/2 are explicitly described. As an application, the decomposition of the moonshine vertex operator algebra is obtained for a distinguished system of 48 Virasoro algebras.Comment: Latex, 54 page

A penalty approach for nonlinear optimization with discrete design variables

    Get PDF
Introduced here is a simple approach to minimization problems with discrete design variables by modifying the penaly function approach of converting the constrained problems into sequential unconstrained minimization technique (SUMT) problems. It was discovered, during the course of the present work, that a similar idea was suggested by Marcal and Gellatly. However, no further work has been encountered. A brief description of the SUMT is presented. The form of the penalty function for the discrete-valued design variables and strategy used for the implementation of the procedure is discussed next. Finally, several design examples are used to demonstrate the procedure, and results are compared with the ones available in the literature

Experimental test of strongly non-classical character of a noisy squeezed single-photon state

    Get PDF
We experimentally verify the quantum non-Gaussian character of a conditionally generated noisy squeezed single-photon state with positive Wigner function. Employing an optimized witness based on probabilities of squeezed vacuum and squeezed single-photon states we prove that the state cannot be expressed as a mixture of Gaussian states. In our experiment, the non-Gaussian state is generated by conditional subtraction of a single photon from squeezed vacuum state. The state is probed with a homodyne detector and the witness is determined by averaging a suitable pattern function over the measured homodyne data. Our experimental results are in good agreement with a theoretical fit obtained from a simple yet realistic model of the experimental setup.Comment: 10 pages, 8 figures, REVTeX
