Una nueva especie de Bryophaenocladius (Diptera: Chironomidae) de Argentina

Se describe y se dibuja el macho de Bryophaenocladius carolinae sp. nov. La especie puede separarse del resto de las especies Neotropicales porque posee una punta anal hialina y triangular, con su punta redondeada; la volsella inferior sub-rectangular y comparativamente más pequeña; gonostilo ensanchado en su parte media y con una quilla externa; R4+5 finalizando opuesta a la terminación de M3+4; escama setosa, pseudospinas y peine en la tibia de la pata dos, ausentes. Se brinda una clave de identificación de adultos machos neotropicales del género Bryophaenocladius Thienemann.The male of Bryophaenocladius carolinae sp. nov. is described and figured. The species can be separated from all other Neotropical species by having a hyaline, blunt triangular anal point, a comparatively small, sub-rectangular inferior volsella, gonostylus widened medially with an outer heel, R4+5 ending opposite to end of M3+4, setose squama and absence of comb on middle tibia and pseudospurs. Labrundinia separata: redescripción de adultos y descripción de inmaduros (Diptera: Chironomidae: Tanypodinae)

Se redescriben e ilustran los adultos macho y hembra, y se describen los inmaduros de Labrundinia separata (Edwards). Los ejemplares estudiados fueron colectados como inmaduros en los bosques de Notophagus del norte de la Patagonia Argentina y criados, hasta adultos, en laboratorio. Esta especie es comparada con sus congéneres más similares.Adults male and female of Labrundinia separata (Edwards), and the immatures are described and illustrated. The studied specimens were collected as immatures in the Notophagus forest of northern Argentinean Patagonia, and reared to adult in laboratory. A new species of the genus Mesosmittia Brundin, 1956 (Diptera: Chironomidae) from the Neotropics with a cladistic analysis of the genus using quantitative characters

The new species Mesosmittia museophila from the Neotropics is described and illustrated based on male imagines. A cladistic analysis was conducted in order to assess its possible relationships with the remaining species in the genus, and it was found that M. museophila is the sister group of M. mina Sæther and these two species are closely related to M. prolixa Sæther. A new species of <i>Metriocnemus</i> van der Wulp (Diptera: Chironomidae) with a tentative phylogeny of the genus

The male and female of the new species Metriocnemus puna sp. n from the Argentinean Puna are described and illustrated. A parsimony analysis including 24 well-described species of the genus plus the new species based on the adult male was conducted in order to access the phylogenetic position of the new species and to provide the first phylogenetic hypothesis for the genus.Facultad de Ciencias Naturales y Muse

Phylogeny and new species of the genus Lipurometriocnemus Sæther (Diptera: Chironomidae)

Lipurometriocnemus Sæther (Diptera: Chironomidae: Orthocladiinae) is composed of fve species endemic to the Americancontinent. Three new species from Argentina are described and illustrated as males and Austrocladius barilochensis (Edwards) is newlytransferred to Lipurometriocnemus. A cladistic analysis of Orthocladiinae placed Lipurometriocnemus as sister group to Metriocnemus vander Wulp. A separate cladistic analysis of Lipurometriocnemus species was also conducted and the results are discussed. Phylogenetic analysis of the tribe Macropelopiini (Chironomidae: Tanypodinae): adjusting homoplasies

Macropelopiini is a widely distributed tribe of Tanypodinae, with immature stages inhabiting cool seeps, springs, and small streams. The present study evaluated the monophyly and the supporting synapomorphies within a phylogenetic context for the first time for Macropelopiini. The monophyly and the intergeneric relationships were tested by morphological evidence in a cladistic framework, and the information gained from each homoplastic character was evaluated. The monophyly of Macropelopiini is corroborated through the objective synapomorphy ‘outer fringe decreasing from base to apex ending in small spines’ in the pupa, and the subjective synapomorphies ‘tibial spurs with main teeth and short lateral tooth’ in males and ‘dorsal setae arising from prominent tubercles’ in the pupa. Fittkauimyia Karunakaran, 1969 is excluded from Macropelopiini, Gressitius Sublette & Wirth, 1980 is established as a junior synonym of Alotanypus Roback, 1971, and the new combination Alotanypus antarcticus comb. nov. is proposed. Character combination, mainly through the use of the characters with informative taxonomical value, remains an efficient tool to diagnose the Macropelopiini genera. The new genus Paggipelopia gen. nov. for Paggipelopia spaccesii gen. et sp. nov. is erected and the emendation of the species diagnosis of Wuelkerella toncekensis Añón Suárez & Sublette, 2012 is conducted.Fil: Siri, Augusto. Estatus taxonómico de Polypedilum quinquesetosum (Edwards, 1931) (Diptera, Chironomidae)

The taxonomic status of Polypedilum quinquesetosum (Edwards) is reviewed upon the study of the male holotype of the species and new findings. After the character analysis, this species belongs to the subgenus Tripodura Townes and the new combination is established. The species diagnosis is expanded, the relationships with the rest of the Neotropical species of the subgenus are discussed and its geographical distribution is extended.Fil: Fuentes, María Cecilia. Comentarios biogeográficos y ecológicos sobre “A new Neotropical species of the genus Parochlus Enderlein, 1912 (Chironomidae: Podonominae) and new distribution in Argentina” por Rodríguez et al. 2009

Rodríguez et al. (2009) describieron una nueva especie del género Parochlus Enderlein de la subfamilia Podonominae. Se discuten varios aspectos concernientes a aspectos ecológicos y biogeográficos de la antedicha contribución. El nuevo rango de temperaturas propuesto por los autores para dicha especie está apoyada en evidencias débiles y debería ser interpretada como tentativa. La aseveración que este nuevo registro se localizó en la provincia biogeográfica del Monte es errónea. La localidad tipo de la nueva especie pertenece a la provincia biogeográfica Chaqueña.Rodríguez et al. (2009) described a new species of the Podonominae genus Parochlus Enderlein. Several aspects of the abovementioned contribution concerning ecological and biogeographical aspects are discussed. The new temperature range proposed by the authors for this species is weakly supported by evidence and should be interpreted as tentative. The statement that this new record occurred in the Monte biogeographic province is erroneous.
