Application de la théorie de Lancaster à la consommation de poulet de chair au Cameroun

Depuis la fin des années 1990, la production camerounaise de poulet de chair est fortement concurrencée par les importations à bas prix de poulet congelé en provenance du Brésil ou d’Europe, entraînant une crise de la filière. Une enquête réalisée à Yaoundé a montré les différences d’attributs de consommation des poulets locaux versus importés. Sur cette base, cet article développe une approche originale des déterminants de la consommation urbaine de poulet au Cameroun en utilisant la « Characteristics’ theory » de Lancaster (1966a). Appliqué au cas de la consommation de poulet au Cameroun, ce cadre d’analyse est utilisé pour représenter les effets de deux leviers d’action en faveur de la reconquête du marché intérieur du poulet local : l’adaptation de la filière avicole aux attentes des consommateurs et une campagne de sensibilisation ciblée. Impact des politiques commerciales sur le marché du poulet au Cameroun. Intérêts et limites d’un modèle d’équilibre partiel

Cet article propose un modèle du marché camerounais du poulet de chair en équilibre partiel mono produit. Le modèle met en évidence les gains des consommateurs et les pertes des producteurs de poulets de chair lorsque l’on passe d’une situation d’autarcie, comme c’était pratiquement le cas avant 1995, à une situation de marché ouvert telle qu’elle existe depuis le début des années 2000. Le manque de fiabilité et de suivi des données disponibles de prix, d’offre et de demande de poulet rend le calibrage du modèle difficile et en limite sa validité. Toutefois les observations réalisées sur le terrain au cours d’un travail d’enquête réalisé à Yaoundé en 2005 permettent de discuter les chiffres employés et la pertinence des résultats obtenus.This article gives a partial equilibrium model of chicken market in Cameroon. The model indicates gains of consumers and losses of chicken producers, when they pass of a situation of autarky, as it was the case before 1995, to the situation of opened market such that it exists since the beginning of 2000s. The lack of accessible and reliable followed data about chicken prices, supply and demand, makes the model implementation hard and limits its validity. However, empirical observations realised through an investigation in Yaoundé in 2005 allow to discussing the figures used for calibration and the pertinence of obtained results

Observation of the 4π\pi-periodic Josephson effect in indium arsenide nanowires

Quantum computation by non-Abelian Majorana zero modes (MZMs) offers an approach to achieve fault tolerance by encoding quantum information in the non-local charge parity states of semiconductor nanowire networks in the topological superconductor regime. Thus far, experimental studies of MZMs chiefly relied on single electron tunneling measurements which leads to decoherence of the quantum information stored in the MZM. As a next step towards topological quantum computation, charge parity conserving experiments based on the Josephson effect are required, which can also help exclude suggested non-topological origins of the zero bias conductance anomaly. Here we report the direct measurement of the Josephson radiation frequency in InAs nanowires with epitaxial aluminium shells. For the first time, we observe the $4\pi$-periodic Josephson effect above a magnetic field of $\approx 200\,$mT, consistent with the estimated and measured topological phase transition of similar devices.Comment: Published version. La mission 2014 a eu lieu entre le 21 juillet et le 20 septembre. Elle s’était imposée plusieurs objectifs, liés en particulier aux exigences exprimées par les autorités archéologiques d’Ankara au mois de février. En raison de la faiblesse de nos crédits de cette année, nos ambitions en matière de fouille proprement dite ont été très réduites, avec une équipe très réduite également. Mais il était prévu que cette année serait l’année de la prospection géophysique du site, avec la collaboration..

Broadband microwave spectroscopy of semiconductor nanowire-based Cooper-pair transistors

The Cooper-pair transistor (CPT), a small superconducting island enclosed between two Josephson weak links, is the atomic building block of various superconducting quantum circuits. Utilizing gate-tunable semiconductor channels as weak links, the energy scale associated with the Josephson tunneling can be changed with respect to the charging energy of the island, tuning the extent of its charge fluctuations. Here, we directly demonstrate this control by mapping the energy level structure of a CPT made of an indium arsenide nanowire (NW) with a superconducting aluminum shell. We extract the device parameters based on the exhaustive modeling of the quantum dynamics of the phase-biased nanowire CPT and directly measure the even-odd parity occupation ratio as a function of the device temperature, relevant for superconducting and prospective topological qubits.Comment: Published version. Le premier concernait les travaux préparatoires à la publication des niveaux du Bronze et du Fer Moyen, des chantiers II et IV, dégagés par les missions déjà anciennes d’Olivier Pelon, depuis 1969, et plus récentes (depuis 2003) de Dominique Beyer et de son équipe. Short-Term cost impact of compliance with clinical practice guidelines for initial sarcoma treatment

Background: The impact of compliance to clinical practice guidelines (CPG) on outcomes and/or costs of care has not been completely clarified.Objective: To estimate relationships between medical expenditures and compliance to CPG for initial sarcoma treatment.Research design: Selected cohorts of patients diagnosed with sarcoma in 2005 and 2006, and treated at the University hospital and/or the cancer centre of the Rhône-Alpes region, France (n=90). Main outcome measurements were: patient characteristics, compliance with CPG, health outcomes, and costs. Data were mainly extracted from patient records. The logarithm of treatment costs was modelled using linear and Tobit regressions.Results: Rates of compliance with CPG were 86%, 66%, 88%, 89%, and 95% for initial diagnosis, primary surgical excision, wide surgical excision, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy, respectively. Total average costs reached €24,439, with €1,784, €11,225, €10,360, and €1,016 for diagnosis, surgery (primary and wide surgical excisions), chemotherapy, and radiotherapy, respectively. Compliance of diagnosis with CPG decreased the cost of diagnosis, whereas compliance of primary surgical excision increased the cost of chemotherapy. Compliance of chemotherapy with CPG decreased the cost of radiotherapy.Conclusion: Since chemotherapy is one of the major cost drivers, these results support that compliance with guidelines increases medical care expenditures in short term.Oncology; Sarcoma; Cost; Clinical guidelines; Efficacy; Medical Practices; Government Policy; Regulation; Public Health

First Evidence of Palytoxin and 42-Hydroxy-palytoxin in the Marine Cyanobacterium Trichodesmium

Marine pelagic diazotrophic cyanobacteria of the genus Trichodesmium (Oscillatoriales) are widespread throughout the tropics and subtropics, and are particularly common in the waters of New Caledonia. Blooms of Trichodesmium are suspected to be a potential source of toxins in the ciguatera food chain and were previously reported to contain several types of paralyzing toxins. The toxicity of water-soluble extracts of Trichodesmium spp. were analyzed by mouse bioassay and Neuroblastoma assay and their toxic compounds characterized using liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry techniques. Here, we report the first identification of palytoxin and one of its derivatives, 42-hydroxy-palytoxin, in field samples of Trichodesmium collected in the New Caledonian lagoon. The possible role played by Trichodesmium blooms in the development of clupeotoxism, this human intoxication following the ingestion of plankton-eating fish and classically associated with Ostreopsis blooms, is also discussed
