Monitoring water-soil dynamics and tree survival using soil sensors under a big data approach
ArticleThe high importance of green urban planning to ensure access to green areas requires
modern and multi-source decision-support tools. The integration of remote sensing data and sensor
developments can contribute to the improvement of decision-making in urban forestry. This study
proposes a novel big data-based methodology that combines real-time information from soil sensors
and climate data to monitor the establishment of a new urban forest in semi-arid conditions. Water-soil
dynamics and their implication in tree survival were analyzed considering the application of di erent
treatment restoration techniques oriented to facilitate the recovery of tree and shrub vegetation in
the degraded area. The synchronized data-capturing scheme made it possible to evaluate hourly,
daily, and seasonal changes in soil-water dynamics. The spatial variation of soil-water dynamics
was captured by the sensors and it highly contributed to the explanation of the observed ground
measurements on tree survival. The methodology showed how the e ciency of treatments varied
depending on species selection and across the experimental design. The use of retainers for improving
soil moisture content and adjusting tree-watering needs was, on average, the most successful
restoration technique. The results and the applied calibration of the sensor technology highlighted the
random behavior of water-soil dynamics despite the small-scale scope of the experiment. The results
showed the potential of this methodology to assess watering needs and adjust watering resources to
the vegetation status using real-time atmospheric and soil datainfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Numerical study of the cosmological velocity field as a function of density
We report on a new study of the velocity distribution in N-body simulations.
We investigate the center-of-mass and internal kinetic energies of coarsening
cells as a function of time, cell size and cell mass. By using self-similar
cosmological models, we are able to derive theoretical predictions for
comparison and to assess the influence of finite-size and resolution effects.
The most interesting result is the discovery of a polytropic-like relationship
between the average velocity dispersion (internal kinetic energy) and the mass
density in an intermediate range of densities, K ~ rho^{2-eta}. The exponent
eta measures the deviations from the virial prediction, eta_virial=0. For
self-similar models, eta depends only on the spectral index of the initial
power spectrum. We also study CDM models and confirm a previous result that the
same polytropic-like dependence exists (astro-ph/0103313), with a time and
coarsening length dependent eta. The dependence K(rho) is an important input
for a recently proposed theoretical model of cosmological structure formation
which improves over the standard dust model (pressureless fluid) by
regularizing the density singularities.Comment: Version accepted by A&A (in press). One paragraph added toward the

Fil: Dominguez, Marcelo Adrian. Generation of J0 Bessel Beams with controlled spatial coherence features
An alternative method to generate J0 Bessel beams with controlled spatial
partial coherence properties is introduced. Far field diffraction from a
discrete number of source points on an annular region is calculated. The
average for different diffracted fields produced at several rotation angles is
numerically calculated and experimentally detected. Theoretical and
experimental results show that for this particular case, J0 Bessel beam is a
limit when the number of points tends towards infinity and the associated
complex degree of coherence is also a function of the number of points.Comment: 6 pages, 5 figure
Community Health Profile: National Aggregate of Urban Indian Health Program Service Areas
This publication provides an overview of the health outcome of American Indians and Alaska Natives within the 33 Urban Indian Health Programs' service areas. It also examines and addresses the disparities that exist among the urban AI/AN population compared to the non-Hispanic White (NHW) population and demonstrates the disproportionality in outcomes and behaviors that adversely affect them.
Revisiting the bound on axion-photon coupling from Globular Clusters
We derive a strong bound on the axion-photon coupling from the
analysis of a sample of 39 Galactic Globular Clusters. As recognized long ago,
the R parameter, i.e. the number ratio of stars in horizontal over red giant
branch of old stellar clusters, would be reduced by the axion production from
photon conversions occurring in stellar cores. In this regard we have compared
the measured R with state-of-the-art stellar models obtained under different
assumptions for . We show that the estimated value of
substantially depends on the adopted He mass fraction Y, an
effect often neglected in previous investigations. Taking as benchmark for our
study the most recent determinations of the He abundance in H II regions with
O/H in the same range of the Galactic Globular Clusters, we obtain an upper
bound GeV at 95 confidence level.
This result significantly improves the constraints from previous analyses and
is currently the strongest limit on the axion-photon coupling in a wide mass
range.Comment: (v2: 6 pages, 1 eps figure. Revised version. Discussion enlarged and

These scores are mostly designed for populations with specific characteristics, so in order to use them outside these populations, requires an adaptation to the epidemiological reality of the new population. Despite scientific evidence available, the extent to which these tables and interventions have been implemented in Latin American countries including Cuba is still very limited. From this, arises the questionof this stud
