    The cyclization of N-alkenylamides catalyzed by iodoarenes under oxidative conditions is presented. Five-, six-, and seven-membered rings with a range of substitutions can be prepared by this route. Preliminary data from the use of chiral iodoarenes as precatalysts show that enantiocontrol is feasible

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memperoleh informasi tentang Penerapan Good Farming Practice Pada Usaha Pemeliharaan Kambing Peranakan Ettawa (PE) di UD Muda Bakti Barokah (UD MBB) Lombok Tengah, Aspek Teknis Faktor Penentu Good Dairy Farming Practice Ternak Kambing Perah disamping untuk mengetahui performen produksi kambing PE yang diusahakan dengan peliharaan yang sedang diterapkan. Penelitian akan menggunakan metode survei, observasi, pengamatan dan pengukuran langsung di Peranakan UD MBB. Alat yang digunakan mengambil data adalah kuisioner dan atau Petunjuk Teknis Daftar Kesesuaian GDFP Budidaya Kambing (Kementan, 2001). Pengumpulan data menggunakan Teknik wawancara langsung dengan pengusaha peternakan kambing PE dan pengukuran sampel konsumsi pakan, produksi susu, perubahan bobot badan induk dan kualitas susu. Data yang diperoleh ditabulasi dan dianalisis menggunakan Arithematic Mean dan Standar deviasi (Mean±STDEV) dengan menggunakan Spreadsheet Microsoft Excel 2007, selanjutnya dibahas secara deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata hasil evaluasi kesesuaian GDFP Kambing Perah PE pada UD MBB tergolong ke dalam kategori III (Cukup Baik) dengan Aspek yang telah terselenggara dengan baik sebesar 60.12 %, meliputi aspek Prasarana dan Sarana. (78.49 %), Cara Budidaya/Pemeliharaan (70.00) dan  Kesehatan Hewan (70.00) Aspek yang belum terselenggara dengan baik sebanyak 41.67 % antara lain Pelestarian Lingkungan Hidup (50 %) dan Pencatatan atau Recording (33.33 %). Jadi Peternakan UD MBB layak untuk diusulkan dan mendapatkan sertifikat dari Dinas Peternakan. Rata-rata Skor Nilai Aspek Teknis Faktor Penentu Good Dairy Farming Practice Ternak Kambing Perah di UD MBB “Cukup Baik” dengan Aspek yang telah terselenggara dengan baik sebesar nilai 2.81, meliputi aspek Bibit dan Reproduksi (2.86), Kandang dan Peralatan (3.00), Kesehatan Ternak (3.00) dan Kesejahteraan Ternak (3.29). Aspek yang belum terselenggara dengan baik hanya pada aspek Manajemen Pakan dan Air Minum dengan skor 1.89. Performen produksi susu perubahan bobot badan induk dan kualitas susu kambing PE yang diusahakan dengan GDFP yang sedang diterapkan pada peternakan di UD MBB sudah termasuk cukup baik, yaitu rata-rata produksi susu dan PBBH selama penelitian masing-masing sebesar 1454.17±116.73 ml/ekor/hari dan 35.71±20.36 gram/hari. Begitu pula kualitas susu kambing PE yang dihasilkan dapat dinyatakan sudah baik dan lebih tinggi dari syarat standar yang ditetapkan pada SNI, Dirjen Peternakan, Milk Codex dan Thai Agriculture standar

    Activated checkpoint kinase 2 provides a survival signal for tumor cells

    Tumor cells often become resistant to DNA damage-based therapy; however, the underlying mechanisms are not yet understood. Here, we show that tumor cells exposed to DNA damage counteract cell death by releasing the antiapoptotic protein, survivin, from mitochondria. This is independent of p53, and requires activated checkpoint kinase 2 (Chk2), a putative tumor suppressor. Molecular or genetic targeting of Chk2 prevents the release of survivin from mitochondria, enhances DNA damage-induced tumor cell apoptosis, and inhibits the growth of resistant in vivo tumors. Therefore, activated Chk2 circumvents its own tumor-suppressive functions by promoting tumor cell survival. Inhibiting Chk2 in combination with DNA-damaging agents may provide a rational approach for treating resistant tumors

    Optimal Protocol for Contrast-enhanced Free-running 5D Whole-heart Coronary MR Angiography at 3T.

    Free-running 5D whole-heart coronary MR angiography (MRA) is gaining in popularity because it reduces scanning complexity by removing the need for specific slice orientations, respiratory gating, or cardiac triggering. At 3T, a gradient echo (GRE) sequence is preferred in combination with contrast injection. However, neither the injection scheme of the gadolinium (Gd) contrast medium, the choice of the RF excitation angle, nor the dedicated image reconstruction parameters have been established for 3T GRE free-running 5D whole-heart coronary MRA. In this study, a Gd injection scheme, RF excitation angles of lipid-insensitive binominal off-resonance RF excitation (LIBRE) pulse for valid fat suppression and continuous data acquisition, and compressed-sensing reconstruction regularization parameters were optimized for contrast-enhanced free-running 5D whole-heart coronary MRA using a GRE sequence at 3T. Using this optimized protocol, contrast-enhanced free-running 5D whole-heart coronary MRA using a GRE sequence is feasible with good image quality at 3T

    The Universal Real Projective Plane: LHC phenomenology at one Loop

    The Real Projective Plane is the lowest dimensional orbifold which, when combined with the usual Minkowski space-time, gives rise to a unique model in six flat dimensions possessing an exact Kaluza Klein (KK) parity as a relic symmetry of the broken six dimensional Lorentz group. As a consequence of this property, any model formulated on this background will include a stable Dark Matter candidate. Loop corrections play a crucial role because they remove mass degeneracy in the tiers of KK modes and induce new couplings which mediate decays. We study the full one loop structure of the corrections by means of counter-terms localised on the two singular points. As an application, the phenomenology of the (2,0) and (0,2) tiers is discussed at the LHC. We identify promising signatures with single and di-lepton, top antitop and 4 tops: in the dilepton channel, present data from CMS and ATLAS may already exclude KK masses up to 250 GeV, while by next year they may cover the whole mass range preferred by WMAP data.Comment: 45 pages, 3 figure

    Essential Role of the Small GTPase Ran in Postnatal Pancreatic Islet Development

    The small GTPase Ran orchestrates pleiotropic cellular responses of nucleo-cytoplasmic shuttling, mitosis and subcellular trafficking, but whether deregulation of these pathways contributes to disease pathogenesis has remained elusive. Here, we generated transgenic mice expressing wild type (WT) Ran, loss-of-function Ran T24N mutant or constitutively active Ran G19V mutant in pancreatic islet β cells under the control of the rat insulin promoter. Embryonic pancreas and islet development, including emergence of insulin+ β cells, was indistinguishable in control or transgenic mice. However, by one month after birth, transgenic mice expressing any of the three Ran variants exhibited overt diabetes, with hyperglycemia, reduced insulin production, and nearly complete loss of islet number and islet mass, in vivo. Deregulated Ran signaling in transgenic mice, adenoviral over-expression of WT or mutant Ran in isolated islets, or short hairpin RNA (shRNA) silencing of endogenous Ran in model insulinoma INS-1 cells, all resulted in decreased expression of the pancreatic and duodenal homeobox transcription factor, PDX-1, and reduced β cell proliferation, in vivo. These data demonstrate that a finely-tuned balance of Ran GTPase signaling is essential for postnatal pancreatic islet development and glucose homeostasis, in vivo

    Markers of Oxidative Damage Are Not Elevated in Otherwise Healthy Individuals With the Metabolic Syndrome

    OBJECTIVE- The role of oxidative damage in the pathogenesis of metabolic syndrome is poorly understood. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS- A detailed cross-sectional study was performed to assess the relationship between lipid oxidation products, γ-glutamyltransferase, highsensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), and phospholipase activities with respect to the metabolic status in a cohort of otherwise healthy individuals. RESULTS- A total of 179 individuals (87 men and 92 women) aged 43 ± 14 years (mean ± SD) participated in this study. There were no differences in the levels of plasma F 2-isoprostanes, hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acids, cholesterol oxidation products, and phospholipase activities in individuals with features of metabolic syndrome. In multivariate analyses, serum hs-CRP was a consistent independent predictor of metabolic syndrome. CONCLUSIONS- Minimal changes were observed in multiple markers of oxidative damage in a well-characterized cohort of individuals with features of metabolic syndrome. © 2010 by the American Diabetes Association.link_to_subscribed_fulltex
