    Mode-Shapes Analysis Of Cross-Ply-Laminated Composite Cylindrical Shallow Shells

    This work presents mode-shape analysis of cross-ply laminated composite cylindrical shallow shells. First, kinematic relations of strains and deformation have been showed. Then, using Hamilton's principle, governing differential equations have been obtained for a general curved shell. In the next step, stress-strain relation for laminated, cross-ply composite shells has been given. By using some simplifications and assuming Fourier series as a displacement field, differential equations are solved by matrix algebra for shallow shells. By the help of a computer algebra system called MATHEMATICA, a computer program has been prepared for the solution. The results obtained by this solution have been given tables and graphs. Example problems have been solved also by (ANSYS and SAP2000) programs, which are based on the finite element method (FEM). The comparison has been made using all of tables and graphs that are obtained by various theories

    dissertationIn this dissertation, I investigate the missionary activities of the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions (ABCFM) in the Ottoman Empire. I am particularly interested in exploring the impact of the activities of one of the most important missionaries, Elias Riggs, on the minorities in the Ottoman Empire throughout the nineteenth century. By analyzing the significance of his missionary work and the fruits of his intellectual and linguistic ability, we can better understand the efforts of the ABCFM missionaries to seek converts to the Protestant faith in the Ottoman Empire. I focus mainly on the period that began with Riggs' sailing from Boston to Athens in 1832 as a missionary of the ABCFM until his death in Istanbul on January 17, 1901. Elias Riggs was one of the most influential missionaries in the Ottoman Empire throughout the nineteenth century, and his life was associated with a period of significant change in the Ottoman Empire and the modern history of missionaries in the Middle East. He was instrumental in the ABCFM's decision to develop a Protestant publishing enterprise for the peoples in the region. In addition to his editorship of religious periodicals, he published a variety of books for the mission. He was a member of the translation committee for the Turkish Bible and he worked several years on translating the Bible into Armenian and Bulgarian. He had an exceptionally long career and worked in many parts of the region

    Surface Tension and Surface Tension Assessment of Ag-Au-Cu Ternary and Sub-Binary Alloy Systems

    A brief review of measurement techniques and theoretical studies on the surface tension alloy and mixture has been presented in the present study. It is clear that the experimental determination of thermodynamic and thermophysical properties of both solid and especially liquid alloys at high temperature cases is frequently difficult technologically. In addition to this, a lack of experimental data concerning thermophysical properties of Ag-Au, Au-Cu, and Ag-Cu sub-binary systems is obvious. The theoretical thermophysical data of the Ag-Au-Cu ternary alloy systems are very scarce in the literature. Thus, the surface tensions of the alloys just mentioned above for cross sections z = xAg/xAu = 1/3, 1/1, 3/1, 2/5, and 5/2, respectively, and their sub-binary systems are much simply calculated from the surface tensions of the Ag-Au, Au-Cu, and Ag-Cu sub-binary systems by using geometric models, such as Muggianu, Kohler, Toop, and GSM (Chou’s general solution model) and Butler’s equation. The predicted results in the present study show rather an agreement with the experimental results of the alloys. Therefore, it is inferred that the obtained surface tension curves for the Ag-Au-Cu ternary alloy at 1381 K are reasonable with especially those calculated from the Toop model

    Estimation of delay and vehicle stops at signalized intersections using artificial neural network

    Delay and number of vehicle stops are important indicators that define the level of service of a signalized intersection. Therefore, they are usually considered for optimizing the traffic signal timing. In this study, ANNs are employed to model delay and the number of stops estimation at signalized intersections. Intersection approach volumes, cycle length and left turn lane existence were utilized as input variables since they could easily be obtained from field surveys. On the other hand, the average delay and the number of stops per vehicle were used as the output variables for the ANNs models. Four-leg intersections were examined in this study.  Approach volumes including turning volumes are randomly generated for each lane of these intersections, then the traffic simulation program was run 196 times with each generated data. Finally, average delay and the number of stops per vehicle were obtained from the simulations as outputs. In this study, various network architectures were analyzed to get the best architecture that provides the best performance. The results show that the ANNs model has potential to estimate delays and number of vehicle stops

    Our experience regarding withdraw blood from rats and preparation of platelet-rich plasma

    Aim: Withdraw blood from rats is an important, but not easy, invasive procedure in experimental research on these animals. In addition, the preparation and standardization of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a more difficult process in rats. In this study, we presented our experiences about rat blood collection and PRP preparation technique. Methods and Result: This experimental study was performed with ten male Wistar rats weighing 250–300 g. Under anesthesia, the blood was obtained by percutaneous puncture from the right ventricle of the rats. The blood obtained from rats was rapidly transferred to tubes containing anticoagulants such as sodium citrate or acid citrate dextrose solution A. After the first centrifuge, the all plasma was collected by a pipette after a second spin in a sterile tube. As a result of all these processes, PRP at the desired concentration was obtained. Conclusions: Blood withdraw from rats is not an easy method, and when large amounts of blood are required cardiac blood intake is necessary. In order to achieve the therapeutic intensity in PRP preparation, usually a double spin is required and the concentration obtained with the base number of platelets should be compared

    Importance of homogenization in platelet-rich plasma researches

    Aim: To achieve homogenization, one of the most important factors to overcome during platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is standardization phases. Method: We used 10 cc 'BD vacutainer ACD-A' tubes which consisted of 1.5 cc ACD-A. 3 tubes blood was collected from healthy volunteers from 20 to 40 years. All tubes were centrifuged by 180g x 12 min. Then 0.01 ml PRP was collected from just the level of buffy coat. Results: Platelet concentration decreased from buffy coat to top of PPP as expected. If any counting done before homogenization the results will be misleading. Conclusion: When we sample 3 cc PRP homogenized with shaker at 3 point from 3 different point, we see that they are close to each other. It is important that the PRP to be used in the studies must be homogenized before any measurement

    The effectiveness of Sufi music for mental health outcomes. A systematic review and meta-analysis of 21 randomised trials.

    BACKGROUND: There is some evidence that Sufi music therapy might improve physical and mental well-being; however, no systematic review or meta-analysis has pooled and critiqued the evidence. The aim of this systematic review was to evaluate the effects of Sufi music therapy on mental health outcomes. METHODS: We searched Medline, PsycINFO, the Web of Science, Science Direct, PsycARTICLES, Cochrane Library, SCOPUS, CINAHL Plus, AMED, and ULAKBIM databases, and the reference lists of the studies found. Papers published in academic peer-reviewed journals were included, as well as from other sources such as chapters in edited books, the grey literature, or conference presentations. Articles published up to March 2020 in Turkish and English were included. Our primary outcome of interest was anxiety and secondary outcomes of interest were other mental health outcomes such as depression. To assess the methodological quality of the articles, the Cochrane Risk of Bias Tool was used. The quality of evidence was assessed using the GRADEpro GDT system. RESULTS: This search yielded 21 clinical trials that were eligible for inclusion. A meta-analysis, using a random effects model, of 18 randomised controlled trials involving 1454 participants showed that Sufi music therapy with makams, compared with treatment as usual (TAU) or a no-music control group, reduced symptoms of anxiety in the short term in patients undergoing an operation or treatments such as chemotherapy or haemodialysis (standardised mean difference SMD= -1.15, 95% CI, -1.64 to -0.65; very low-quality evidence). The evidence of Sufi music with makam's effect on anxiety is rated as very low. Qualitative synthesis of secondary outcomes revealed significant effects for depression, positive symptoms in schizophrenia, stress, which however were based on fewer studies. Trials were of moderate methodological quality, and there was significant heterogeneity across the studies. CONCLUSION: Sufi music may reduce anxiety of patients undergoing medical procedures like haemodialysis, coronary artery surgery, angiography, colonoscopy, bone marrow aspiration and biopsy procedures. Evidence from single studies suggests effects on depression and stress as well. However, due to methodological limitations of the studies, further, higher quality studies are required in other cultures

    Effect of Zofenopril on regeneration of sciatic nerve crush injury in a rat model

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Zofenopril is an antioxidant agent which has been shown to have beneficial effects in hypertension and heart failure. The aim of this study was to test the effects of Zofenopril on nerve regeneration and scarring in a rat model of peripheral nerve crush injury.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>Twenty-one adult Sprague-Dawley rats underwent a surgical procedure involving right sciatic nerve crush injury. 15 mg/kg Zofenopril was administered orally to seven rats in group Z for seven days. Seven rats in group S received saline orally for seven days. Seven rats in the control group C received no drug after crush injury. Fourteenth and 42nd days after injury, functional and electromyography assessments of nerves were performed. Functional recovery was analyzed using a walking track assessment, and quantified using the sciatic functional index (SFI). After these evaluations, all rats were sacrificed and microscopic evaluations were performed.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>The Sciatic functional Index (SFI) in group Z on 14<sup>th </sup>day is different significantly from group S and group C (p = 0.037). But on 42<sup>nd </sup>day there was no difference between groups (p = 0.278). The statistical analyses of electromyelographic (EMG) studies showed that the latency in group Z is significantly different from group S (p = 0.006) and group C (p = 0.045). But on 42<sup>nd </sup>day there was no difference between groups like SFI (p = 0.147). The amplitude was evaluated better in group Z than others (p < 0.05). In microscopic evaluation, we observed the highest number of nerve regeneration in the group Z and the lowest in the group C. But it was not significant statistically.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>Our results demonstrate that Zofenopril promotes the regeneration of peripheral nerve injuries in rat models.</p

    KAIME : Central Bank Digital Currency with Realistic and Modular Privacy

    Recently, with the increasing interest in Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC), many countries have been working on researching and developing digital currency. The most important reasons for this interest are that CBDC eliminates the disadvantages of traditional currencies and provides a safer, faster, and more efficient payment system. These benefits also come with challenges, such as safeguarding individuals’ privacy and ensuring regulatory mechanisms. While most researches address the privacy conflict between users and regulatory agencies, they miss an important detail. Important parts of a financial system are banks and financial institutions. Some studies ignore the need for privacy and include these institutions in the CBDC system, no system currently offers a solution to the privacy conflict between banks, financial institutions, and users. In this study, while we offer a solution to the privacy conflict between the user and the regulatory agencies, we also provide a solution to the privacy conflict between the user and the banks. Our solution, KAIME has also a modular structure. The privacy of the sender and receiver can be hidden if desired. Compared to previous related research, security analysis and implementation of KAIME is substantially simpler because simple and well-known cryptographic methods are used
