    Integrating BIM with building performance analysis in project life-cycle

    Adopting Building Information Modelling (BIM) in Building Performance Analysis (BPA) is becoming an emerging research area in the application of information technology in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry. To investigate the current state of research in the adoption of BIM in BPA, this study performed a holistic review consisting of a bibliometric analysis of existing literature, content analysis of selected studies, as well as follow-up qualitative discussion in BIM integration with BPA. The bibliometric analysis identified 60 relevant studies; the content analysis of these studies revealed the research focuses of BIM-enabled BPA, including interoperability, semantics, and sustainability rating systems; the qualitative discussion further highlighted the learning process throughout project delivery stages and addressed the potential gap between ‘as-designed’ building performance and ‘as-built’ performance. Overall, this study contributes to existing research by identifying key input attributes and workflow in BPA, reviewing the state-of-the-art research on BIM integration with BPA, and investigating the major research areas, namely, interoperability issues in BIM-enabled BPA within the context of life-cycle BPA

    Universal critical properties of the Eulerian bond-cubic model

    We investigate the Eulerian bond-cubic model on the square lattice by means of Monte Carlo simulations, using an efficient cluster algorithm and a finite-size scaling analysis. The critical points and four critical exponents of the model are determined for several values of nn. Two of the exponents are fractal dimensions, which are obtained numerically for the first time. Our results are consistent with the Coulomb gas predictions for the critical O(nn) branch for n<2n < 2 and the results obtained by previous transfer matrix calculations. For n=2n=2, we find that the thermal exponent, the magnetic exponent and the fractal dimension of the largest critical Eulerian bond component are different from those of the critical O(2) loop model. These results confirm that the cubic anisotropy is marginal at n=2n=2 but irrelevant for n<2n<2

    High-Pressure Induced Structural Phase Transition in CaCrO4: Evidence from Raman Scattering Studies

    Raman spectroscopic studies have been carried out on CaCrO4 under pressure up to 26GPa at ambient temperature. The Raman spectra showed CaCrO4 experienced a continuous structural phase transition started at near 6GPa, and finished at about 10GPa. It is found that the high-pressure phase could be quenched to ambient conditions. Pressure dependence of the Raman peaks suggested there existed four pressure regions related to different structural characters. We discussed these characters and inferred that the nonreversible structural transition in CaCrO4, most likely was from a zircon-type (I41/amd) ambient phase to a scheelite-type high pressure structure (I41/a).Comment: submitte

    Dietary DHA/EPA ratio affected tissue fatty acid profiles, antioxidant capacity, hematological characteristics and expression of lipid-related genes but not growth in juvenile black seabream (Acanthopagrus schlegelii)

    An 8-week feeding trial was conducted to investigate the effects of dietary docosahexaenoic to eicosapentaenoic acid ratio (DHA/EPA) on growth performance, fatty acid profiles, anti- oxidant capacity, hematological characteristics and expression of some lipid metabolism related genes of juvenile black seabream (Acanthopagrus schlegelii) of initial weight 9.47 &plusmn; 0.03 g. Five isonitrogenous and isolipidic diets (45% crude protein and 14% crude lipid) were formulated to contain graded DHA/EPA ratios of 0.65, 1.16, 1.60, 2.03 and 2.67. There were no differences in growth performance and feed utilization among treatments. Fish fed higher DHA/EPA ratios had higher malondialdehyde (MDA) contents in serum than lower ratios. Serum triacylglycerol (TAG) content was significantly higher in fish fed the lowest DHA/EPA ratio. Tissue fatty acid profiles reflected the diets despite down-regulation of LC- PUFA biosynthesis genes, fatty acyl desaturase 2 (fads2) and elongase of very long-chain fatty acids 5 (elovl5), by high DHA/EPA ratios. Expression of acetyl-CoA carboxylase alpha (acc&alpha;) and carnitine palmitoyl transferase 1A (cpt1a) were up-regulated by high DHA/EPA ratio, whereas sterol regulatory element-binding protein-1 (srebp-1) and hormone-sensitive lipase (hsl) were down-regulated. Fatty acid synthase (fas), 6-phosphogluconate dehydro- genase (6pgd) and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (ppar&alpha;) showed highest expression in fish fed intermediate (1.16) DHA/EPA ratio. Overall, this study indicated that dietary DHA/EPA ratio affected fatty acid profiles and significantly influenced lipid metabo- lism including LC-PUFA biosynthesis and other anabolic and catabolic pathways, and also had impacts on antioxidant capacity and hematological characteristics

    Super‐Resolution Imaging of Amyloid Structures over Extended Times by Using Transient Binding of Single Thioflavin T Molecules

    Oligomeric amyloid structures are crucial therapeutic targets in Alzheimer\u27s and other amyloid diseases. However, these oligomers are too small to be resolved by standard light microscopy. We have developed a simple and versatile tool to image amyloid structures by using thioflavin T without the need for covalent labeling or immunostaining. The dynamic binding of single dye molecules generates photon bursts that are used for fluorophore localization on a nanometer scale. Thus, photobleaching cannot degrade image quality, allowing for extended observation times. Super‐resolution transient amyloid binding microscopy promises to directly image native amyloid by using standard probes and record amyloid dynamics over minutes to days.
