the present study is aimed at understanding the influence of Vipassana Meditation among business managers who did Vipassana Meditation during their management education or after. How far Vipassana Meditation process influences life effectiveness of these young managers. Quantitative-multidimensional analysis of attitudinal and behavioral variables is the primary focus of this study. Exploratory study is conducted to arrive at appropriate variables in relation the professional and personal dimensions selected for the study. Data collection made from 176 junior level managers, who have passed out from five business schools in Pune, India. Independent and dependent variables are analyzed into with correlation and multiple regression models. The findings indicate that the Vipassana meditation process is having high influence on professional and personal effectiveness of managers. This research study envisages the importance of holistic education to the management graduates that ensure the development of physically stable, mentally alert and professionally matured students for better operations and business excellence

Comparison of platelet count by manual and automated method

    Get PDF
Background: Since the emergence of dengue fever in the past few years, platelet count has become a routine test in every pathology lab. Common methods are by peripheral blood smears made from blood collected in ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) tubes, by neubaeur chamber, automated method by hematology cell counter. Methods: Blood samples of 460 adult patients and 72 children (<15 years), including indoor and outdoor, between May to August 2019, attending Hind institute of medical sciences, were collected in EDTA tubes. Samples were properly mixed on blood shaker and immediately peripheral blood smears were made and stained with Leishman stain. Platelet count of every sample was done by peripheral blood smear and by Mindray (BC5150) automated cell counter, simultaneously. Results:  Results by manual slide method are slightly higher than automated method but significantly not different from automated method. Conclusions: Traditional slide method can also be used if done carefully comparable to automated method especially useful in small labs which can’t afford automated cell counter

Matching Forensic Sketches to Mug Shot Photos using Speeded Up Robust Features

    Get PDF
The problem that is dealt in the project is to match a forensic sketch against a gallery of mug shot photos. Research in past decade offered solutions for matching sketches that were drawn while looking at the subject (viewed sketches). In this thesis, emphasis is made on matching the forensic sketches, which are the sketches drawn by specially trained artists in police department based on the description of subject by an eyewitness. Recently, a method for forensic sketch matching using LFDA (Local Feature based Discriminant Analysis) was published. Here, the same problem is addressed using a novel preprocessing technique combined with a local feature descriptor called SURF (Speeded Up Robust Features). In our method, first, the images are preprocessed using a novel preprocessing technique suitable for forensic sketch matching that is based on the cognitive research on human memory. After the preprocessing, SURF is used for matching. SURF extracts features in the form of 64-variable vectors for each image. Then all these vectors of one image are combined to form the SURF descriptor vector for that image. These descriptor vectors are then used for matching. This method of forensic sketch matching was applied to match a dataset of 64 Forensic Sketches against a gallery of 1058 photos. From our experiments, it was observed that our approach of image preprocessing combined with SURF had shown promising results with a good accuracy
