The youngest basic oceanic magmatism in the Alps (Late Cretaceous

Cathodoluminescence-controlled radiometric dating (U-Pb SHRIMP) was carried out on zircon domains from metabasic rocks of the Chiavenna unit, a major mafic/ultramafic-bearing unit in the Central Alps. Co-magmatic zircon domains from amphibolites near Chiavenna and Prata areas yielded weighted mean 206Pb/238U ages at 93.0±2.0 and 93.9±1.8Ma, respectively, interpreted as the age of crystallization of the magmatic protoliths. These ages fit well with the time of late spreading in the Valais Ocean, as suggested by previous paleogeographic reconstructions. Inherited zircon grains and/or core domains (Permo-Triassic, Carboniferous, Proterozoic) are abundant, indicating proximity of the Chiavenna unit to thinned continental crust. This is in line with the origin of this unit from subcontinental mantle sources, as suggested previously on petrological and structural grounds. Metamorphic zircon domains from one amphibolite near Chiavenna yielded a weighted mean 206Pb/238U age at 37.1±0.9Ma, identical to the 38.5±0.9 Ma SHRIMP age of an amphibolitized eclogite of the Antrona ophiolites (Valais domain, Western Alps). Precise metamorphic ages were difficult to obtain from the composite (poly)metamorphic rim domains of the Prata amphibolite. This is attributed to the location of the Prata area close to the granulite-facies Gruf unit (metamorphosed at ca. 33Ma) and to the 24-25 Ma old Novate granite, where metamorphic/fluid events probably caused multiple resetting to various degrees. The ca. 93 Ma old magmatism, identified for the first time in the Chiavenna unit, is the youngest basic oceanic magmatism reported in the Alps. The 37.1±0.9 Ma old metamorphism in the Chiavenna unit, attributed to the Valais domain, confirms the model suggesting stepwise younging of metamorphic ages from the south (Adriatic plate) to the north (European plate). Syntheses and Properties of Cycloamidines Based on 4H-Imidazoles*

Employing three different syntheses a broad spectrum of 4H-imidazoles 3a -3s has been synthesized. In the course of the two-fold aminolysis reaction leading to derivatives 3q -3s, deeply colored byproducts could be isolated and structural characterized.These novel donor-acceptor derivatives of type 7 consist of an 1H-and 4H-imidazole which are connected by a nitrogen bridge and rearrange via rapid 1,3-/1,5-hydride shifts. Using 1 H NMR experiments the aminolysis product 3p shows prototropic isomers which could be detected in equilibrium for the first time. Cyclovoltammetric measurements of a series of substituted 2-aryl derivatives 3d -3i displayed two reversible single electron transfer steps with relatively small semiquinone formation constants between 10 2 and 4 × 10 3 . The 4H-imidazole 3d was successfully converted into boratetraaza-pentalene 8a, which showed two well separated reduction potentials. The value of semiquinone formation constant of 8a (1.8 × 10 15 ) is even higher than those reported for similar derivatives. 4H-imidazoles can also be employed for the efficient complexation of catalytically important metals as exemplified by copper complexes 11 and 12. Die Bibliothek als Erfolgsfaktor:

Im Jahr 2012 konnte die Universitätsbibliothek ihr 50. Jubiläum feiern. Aus diesem Anlass hat die Bibliothek eine Festschrift herausgegeben. Es findet keine Rückschau auf die Vergangenheit statt. Hingegen wird in drei Themenbereichen "Die Universitätsbibliothek - professionelle Partnerin für Lehre , Studium und Forschung", "Innovationen für die campusweiten Dienstleistungen der Universitätsbibliothek" und "Ein scharfes Profil für die Ruhr-Universität Bochum - der Beitrag der Universitätsbibliothek" auf die Rolle und Funktion der Universitätsbibliothek Bochum bis hin zu aktuellen Veränderungen bei Arbeitsabläufen in der Universitätsbibliothek im Jahr 2012 eingegangen

Retrokonversion des Zettel-Schlagwortkatalogs der ULB Bonn

Hans Dieter Gebauer, ULB Bonn, stellte sein Publikum vor die bekannte Entscheidungssituation, die alle schon erlebt haben: Soll man einen alten Zettelkatalog \u96 hier in Bonn einen Schlagwortkatalog mit einer halben Million Zetteln \u96 wegwerfen oder die intellektuelle Leistung vieler, die vor uns da waren, retten? In Bonn geht es um die Berichtszeit von 1945 bis 1989. Über etliche Folien hielt sich die Spannung , bis am Ende folgende Lösung herauskam: Die Bonner werden davon profitieren, daß das HBZ ähnlich wie im Jahr 2002 der Südwestverbund Sacherschließungen aus dem Bayerischen Verbund überführen wird. Für die Situation in Bonn wird die Datenübernahme aus Bayern schon deshalb sinnvoll sein, weil auch ältere Titel aus der Zeit vor 1970 sich als sacherschlossen erweisen werden. Geplant ist die Übernahme der sacherschlossenen Titel noch im Jahr des BVB->HBZ-Projekts, d.h. 2005. Etliche Vorarbeiten werden schon jetzt durchgeführt und etliche werden sich nach der Fremddatenübernahme im Rahmen von Eigenbearbeitungen nach RSWK anschließen. (Hermes
