    Abstract: Improving Students’ Higher-Order Thinking Skills through the Beverage Cooling Problem-Based Learning. This study aims to improve students’ higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) through the beverage cooling problem-based learning model. The method in this research was the matching only pretest-posttest control group. The sample of this research was XII MIA 1 as the experimental class and XII MIA 2 as the control class. The results showed an average posttest in the experimental class greater than the control class. The average n-gain in the experimental class was 0.74 which is a high category. It can conclude that the problem-based learning model of beverage cooling is effective for improving students' higher-order thinking skills. Keywords: higher-order thinking skills, problem-based learning model, the beverage cooling Abstrak: Meningkatkan Keterampilan Berpikir Tingkat Tinggi Siswa Melalui  Pembelajaran Berbasis Masalah Pendinginan Minuman. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir tingkat tinggi (KBTT) siswa SMA melalui model pembelajaran berbasis masalah pendinginan minuman (PBMPM). Metode penelitian ini adalah kuasi eksperimen dengan desain the matching only pretest-posttest control group. Sampel dalam penelitian ini yaitu kelas XII MIA 1 sebagai kelas eksperimen dan kelas XII MIA 2 sebagai kelas kontrol. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata nilai postes di kelas eksperimen lebih tinggi daripada rata-rata nilai postes di kelas kontrol. Nilai n-gain di kelas eksperimen sebesar 0,74 yang berkategori tinggi.  Berdasarkan hasil tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa model PBMPM efektif dalam meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir tingkat tinggi siswa. Kata kunci: keterampilan berpikir tingkat tinggi, model pembelajaran berbasis masalah, pendinginan minuma

    Teachers’ and Students’ Perception about Creative Thinking Skills, Immersed Integrated Science Learning, and project-based Learning: A cow dung waste issue

    Abstract: The perception of science teachers and students on project-based immersed integrated science learning: A cow dung waste issue. This study aims to describe the perception of science teachers and students about creative thinking skills, immersed integrated science learning, and project-based learning of a cow dung waste issue. The survey method used in this study were interviews and questionnaire techniques. The interviews conducted with 7 science teachers respondents. The questionnaires distributed to 121 respondents of junior high school students in the Jati Agung Subdistrict. The results showed that 85.71% of teacher respondents did not know about immersed integrated model yet. They also have never implemented project-based learning, based on the students’ questionnaires, the teachers only gave assignments to 74.07% of student respondents and did not provide real problem-solving. The environmental problem occurs in Jati Agung Subdistrict is a large number of cow dung that causes pollution on the environment around society’s houses. As many as 71.43% of teacher respondents stated that they already knew about creative thinking. However, the creative thinking skills they knew are not relevant to the Torrance framework.     MODIFIKASI ALAT PRAKTIKUM KIMIA INSTRUMEN BERBASIS PROYEK UNTUK MENINGKATKAN KETERAMPILAN BERPIKIR KREATIF MAHASISWA CALON GURU

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kreatif mahasiswa calon guru melalui praktik modifikasi alat praktikum kimia instrumen berbasis proyek (PMS). Dalam penelitian ini dimodifikasi spektrofotometer sinar tampak (SST) dan spektrofotometer serapan atom (SSA). Metode yang diterapkan dalam penelitian ini adalah mixed-methods desain, model Embedded Experimental. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam pengumpulan data adalah tes keterampilan berpikir kreatif berbasis konsep Kimia Analitik, asesmen kinerja, tanggapan mahasiswa terhadap keterlaksanaan dan model praktik modifikasi alat SST dan SSA berbasis proyek, lembar penilaian partisipasi antara mahasiswa, dan pedoman wawancara. Penelitian ini diterapkan terhadap mahasiswa pendidikan kimia semester 6 Tahun Akademik 2015/2016 salah satu universitas di Provinsi Lampung, dengan jumlah mahasiswa kelas kontrol sebanyak 35 dan kelas eksperimen 34 orang. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan PMS berbasis proyek efektif untuk meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kreatif mahasiswa ( = 0,56; d = 4,1) pada semua indikator yang diteliti yaitu originality, fluency, elaboration, dan flexibility; juga efektif untuk meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kreatif mahasiswa berkemampuan akademik rendah. Model proses kreatif mahasiswa terdiri atas 5 tahap yaitu: mengenali masalah, persiapan, inkubasi, menemukan solusi, dan verifikasi. Alat SST dan SSA yang dihasilkan kinerjanya efektif, murah, mudah dalam pembuatan dan penggunaannya, serta selaras dengan Hukum Beer. Komponen alat SST terdiri atas green laser pointer sebagai sumber sinar, kuvet gelas sebagai wadah sampel, dan lux meter sebagai detektor sekaligus pencatat. Komponen alat SSA terdiri atas lampu natrium sebagai sumber sinar, las torch gas butana sebagai burner, spraygun dan kompresor sebagai nebulizer, dan lux meter sebagai detektor sekaligus pencatat. Alat SST dan SSA dapat digunakan baik sebagai model dalam perkuliahan kimia instrumen, maupun sebagai alat pengukuran. Mahasiswa memberikan tanggapan positif terhadap PMS berbasis proyek. Perlu dilakukan penelitian lebih lanjut untuk memperbaiki kinerja alat SST dan SSA, terutama untuk tujuan pengukuran. This research aims to enhance pre-service chemistry teachers’ creative thinking skills through a practice of a project-based chemistry lab instrumentation apparatus modification. In this study be modified visible spectrophotometer (VS) and atomic absorption spectrophotometer (AAS) apparatus. The method in this study was a mixed-methods design embedded experimental models. The instruments used for data collection were a test of creative thinking skills based on Analytical Chemistry concepts, performance assessment, student response to the implementation and the model of a project-based VS and AAS modification practice, the sheet of participation assessment among students, and interview guideline. This research was conducted to chemical education students 6th semester, Academic Year 2015/2016 one of the universities in Provinsi Lampung, with 35 students in the control class and 34 students in the experimental class. The results showed that the project-based VS and AAS modification practice effective to enhance students’ creative thinking skills ( = 0.56; d = 4.1) for all the indicators studied included originality, fluency, elaboration, and flexibility; also effective for improving students’ creative thinking skills with low academic ability. The students’ creative process model consists of recognizing the problem, preparation, incubation, solutions findings, and verification. The performance of VS and AAS product was effective, inexpensive, easy to be built and use, and in accordance with Beer's Law. VS apparatus components consist of a green laser pointer as a light source, a glass cuvette sample containers, and a lux meter as a detector and a readout. AAS apparatus components consist of a sodium lamp as the light source, welding torch butane gas burner, a spray gun and a compressor as a nebulizer, and a lux meter as a detector and a readout. VS and AAS apparatus can be used both as a model in instruments chemistry lectures, and a measurement tool. Students response were positive to the practice of a project-based VS and AAS apparatus modification. Further research was needed to improve the performance of equipment VS and AAS, especially for measurement purposes

    Teachers' Perceptions on the Development of Project-Based Learning Program for Vegetable Waste Treatment to Increase Students’ Scientific Creativity

    Conventional learning that is still applied by teachers causes the quality of human resources in Indonesia to be still relatively low. Teachers should apply learning that can increase the skills needed in 21st century, one of these skills is scientific creativity. In this study to find out the teacher's perspective regarding project-based learning of vegetable waste processing to increase e students' scientific creativity. The research method used is a mixed method with Sequential Explanatory Design. Data collection was carried out by distributing questionnaires to 10 science teacher respondents at junior high schools in Tanggamus. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive analysis. The results of the study show that there are still many teachers who apply the lecture method and 100% of the teacher respondents have never implemented project-based learning and have never solved real problems such as processing vegetable waste in science learning. In fact, the problem that occurs in East Kotaagung District is vegetable waste that is not properly processed. As many as 100% of teacher respondents did not know students' scientific creativity, so they had never been able to increase students' scientific creativity.     Teachers’ Perception toward Electronic Student Worksheet Based on chiken manure Waste Treatment Projects to Improve Students' Creative Thinking Skills

    The objective of this research was to investigate the Science teachers' perception toward e-worksheet based on chiken manure waste treatment projects to improve students' creative thinking skills. The method used in this research is mixed methods with Sequential Explanatory Design. The data was collected through questionnaire, then analyzed by using descriptive analysis. The questionnaires were distributed to 14 Science teacher respondents and 127 junior high school students in North Metro District. The result shows that teacher have a positive perception toward usage of the electronic students' worksheets based on chiken manure waste treatment projects. The results showed that 79% of teachers had not used project-based e-worksheets; based on students' response questionnaires, 37% of teachers have given project assignments, but the projects were not based on real problems in the environment. Environmental problems that occur in North Metro District is the amount of chicken manure waste issue that causes pollution to the environment around society’s houses. The current worksheets has not completely train students' creative thinking skills and that's skills was in low category. Based on the result It can be concluded that a e-worksheet based on chiken manure waste treatment projects is needed to improve students' creative thinking skillsTujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui persepsi guru IPA terhadap e-worksheet berbasis proyek pengolahan limbah kotoran ayam untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kreatif siswa. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode campuran dengan Sequential Explanatory Design. Data dikumpulkan melalui kuesioner, kemudian dianalisis dengan menggunakan analisis deskriptif. Kuesioner dibagikan kepada 14 responden guru IPA dan 127 siswa SMP di Kabupaten Metro Utara. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa guru memiliki persepsi positif terhadap penggunaan lembar kerja siswa elektronik berdasarkan proyek pengolahan limbah kotoran ayam. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa 79% guru belum menggunakan lembar kerja elektronik berbasis proyek; berdasarkan angket respon siswa, 37% guru telah memberikan tugas proyek, tetapi proyek tersebut tidak berdasarkan masalah nyata di lingkungan. Permasalahan lingkungan yang terjadi di Kecamatan Metro Utara adalah banyaknya masalah limbah kotoran ayam yang menyebabkan pencemaran lingkungan sekitar rumah penduduk. LKS yang ada saat ini belum sepenuhnya melatih keterampilan berpikir kreatif siswa dan keterampilan tersebut termasuk dalam kategori rendah. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa e-worksheet berbasis proyek pengolahan limbah kotoran ayam diperlukan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kreatif siswa

    Science Teachers’ Perception About Laboratory Activity on Mixture Separation Topics

    The design of this research is survey research. This study aimed to explore seventh-grade science teachers’ perception of laboratory activity on mixture separation topics and match them with available evidence from learning document. The sample comprised 10 seventh grade science teachers, purposively sampled from seventeen teachers. Questionnaires and interview guidelines were used to collect data. The results show that while teachers’ perceptions of mixture separation topics in science classrooms are inadequate. Caused, there was a mismatch between teachers’ perceptions, learning document, and what was taking place in the science classroom. The study may inform teachers’ performance in teaching mixture separation topics in science. It is recommended that teacher on learning should be used to practice worksheet and assessment of laboratory activity, as most of the teachers do not record marks regularly for laboratory activity. Furthermore, laboratory activity prepared by the teacher should be arranged in a lesson plan and practice schedules

    Peningkatan Keterampilan Inferensi Dan Penguasaan Konsep Pada Materi Termokimia Melalui Model Pembelajaran Poe

    The aim of this research was to describe the effectiveness of predict-observe-explain (POE) learning model in thermochemical of inferencetion skill and mastery concept. Students who became the subject of this research was grade XI IPA1 SMA Gajah Mada in Bandar Lampung Academic Year 2012/2013. This research used the preexperimental method and one group pretest-posttest design. The effectiveness of POE learning model was determined based on the average of normalization gain (n-gain). The results of this research showed that the average of n-gain of inferencetion skill and mastery concept was 0.59 and 0.67. Thus, it can be concluded that the POE learning model in thermochemical effective to enhance skill inference and concept mastery in medium category.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan efektivitas model pembelajaran Predict-Observe-Explain (POE) pada materi termokimia dalam meningkatan keterampilan inferensi dan penguasaan konsep. Subyek dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas XI IPA1 SMA Gajah Mada Bandar Lampung Tahun Pelajaran 2012-2013. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode Pre-Eksperimen dan desain One-Group pretest posttest. Efektivitas model pembelajaran POE diukur berdasarkan nilai normalisasi gain (n-gain). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan nilai rata-rata n-gain keterampilan inferensi dan penguasaan konsep masing-masing 0,59 dan 0,67. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa pembelajaran POE pada materi termokimia efektif dalam meningkatkan keterampilan inferensi dengan kriteria sedang dan penguasaan konsep dengan kriteria sedang

    Pengaruh Penggunaan Isu Sosiosaintifik untuk Meningkatkan Kemampuan Metakognisi Siswa pada Materi Larutan Elektrolit dan Non-Elektrolit

    This research was aimed to describe the effect of using socioscientific issues to improve students’s metacognition ability in electrolyte and non-electrolyte solutions topic. The method used was quasi experiment with pretest-postest control group design. Population in this research were all students of X MIA of a senior highschool in Lampung Tengah. The sample were X MIA 1 as experiment class and X MIA 3 as control class, obtained using clauster random sampling technique. The effect of socioscientific issues was determined by t-test of n-Gain and supported by teacher's ability and effect size test. The results showed that average value of n-Gain of students’s metacognition ability criteria in experiment class was ‘average’, teacher's teaching ability criteria was ‘very high’, and effect size criteria was ‘large’. The conclution of this research was the using of socioscientific issues has given large effect to improve students’s metacognition ability in electrolyte and non-electrolyte solutions topic, with the effect size about 0,931.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan pengaruh penggunaan isu sosiosaintifik untuk meningkatkan kemampuan metakognisi siswa pada materi larutan elektrolit dan non-elektrolit. Metode yang digunakan adalah quasi eksperimen, pretest-posttest control group design. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas X MIA di salah satu SMA di Lampung Tengah. Sampel diambil dengan teknik cluster random sampling, diperoleh kelas X MIA 1 sebagai kelas eksperimen dan X MIA 3 sebagai kelas kontrol. Pengaruh ditentukan berdasarkan uji-t terhadap n-Gain dan didukung dengan kemampuan guru mengelola pembelajaran dan uji ukuran pengaruh. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa rata-rata nilai n-Gain kemampuan metakognisi siswa pada kelas eksperimen berkriteria ‘sedang’, kemampuan guru ‘sangat tinggi’, dan ukuran pengaruh ‘besar’. Kesimpulan penelitian ini yaitu penggunaan isu sosiosaintifik berpengaruh untuk meningkatkan kemampuan metakognisi siswa pada materi larutan elektrolit dan non-elektrolit dengan ukuran pengaruh sebesar 0,931.Kata Kunci: metakognisi, isu sosiosaintifik, larutan elektrolit dan non-elektrolit
