Business Intelligence for Human Capital Management
This article presents the results of an exploratory study of the use of business intelligence (BI) tools to help to make decisions about human resources management in Portuguese organizations. The purpose of this article is to analyze the effective use of BI tools in integrating reports, analytics, dashboards, and metrics, which impacts on the decision making the process of human resource managers. The methodology approach was quantitative based on the results of a survey to 43 human resource managers and technicians. The data analysis technique was correlation coefficient and regression analysis performed by IBM SPSS software. It was also applied qualitative analysis based on a focus group to identify the impacts of business intelligence on the human resources strategies of Portuguese companies. The findings of this study are that: business intelligence is positively associated with HRM decision-making, and business intelligence will significantly predict HRM decision making. The research also examines the process of the information gathered with BI tools from the human resources information system on the decisions of the human resources managers and that impacts the performance of the organizations. The study also gives indications about the practices and gaps, both in terms of human resources management and in processes related to business intelligence (BI) tools. It points out the different factors that must work together to facilitate effective decision-making. The article is structured as follows: a literature review concerning the use of the business intelligence concept and tools and the link between BI and human resources management, methodology, and the main findings and conclusions.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Patterns of antenal sensilla of Panstrongylus megistus from three Brazilian states
The objective of the present study was to analyze and describe the phenotype of the antennal sensilla of Panstrongylus megistus, one of the epidemiologically most important species of triatomines in Brazil. Specimens from the Brazilian states of Goiás (GO), Minas Gerais (MG), and Rio Grande do Sul (RS) were compared, based on studies of four types of sensilla on three antennal segments: thick-walled trichoid (TK), thin-walled trichoid (TH), bristles (BR), and basiconica (BA). Discriminant analysis allowed the separation of the RS specimens from those of GO and MG. Multivariate discriminant analysis demonstrated that the sensilla of males differed from those of females, the variables with greatest weight being the BA of all three segments and the TK of flagellum 1. The basiconica sensilla were significantly more abundant in females, on all three segments. Antennal sensilla patterns also demonstrated significant differences among P. megistus specimens.Fil: Villela, M. M.. Fundación Oswaldo Cruz; BrasilFil: Catala, Silvia Susana. Closing the Symmetry at Electroweak Scale
We show that some models with gauge
symmetry can be realized at the electroweak scale and that this is a
consequence of an approximate global symmetry. This symmetry
implies a condition among the vacuum expectation value of one of the neutral
Higgs scalars, the 's coupling constant, , the sine of the weak
mixing angle , and the mass of the boson, . In the limit
in which this symmetry is valid it avoids the tree level mixing of the
boson of the Standard Model with the extra boson. We have verified
that the oblique parameter is within the allowed range indicating that the
radiative corrections that induce such a mixing at the 1-loop level are small.
We also show that a custodial symmetry implies that in some of
the models we have to include sterile (singlets of the 3-3-1 symmetry)
right-handed neutrinos with Majorana masses, being the see-saw mechanism
mandatory to obtain light active neutrinos. Moreover, the approximate
symmetry implies that the extra non-standard
particles of these 3-3-1 models can be considerably lighter than it had been
thought before so that new physics can be really just around the corner.Comment: 32 pages, no figure, RevTeX. Some typos correcte
Solitary waves on a ferrofluid jet
The propagation of axisymmetric solitary waves on the surface of an otherwise cylindrical ferrofluid jet subjected to a magnetic field is investigated. An azimuthal magnetic field is generated by an electric current flowing along a stationary metal rod which is mounted along the axis of the moving jet. A numerical method is used to compute fully-nonlinear travelling solitary waves and predictions of elevation waves and depression waves by Rannacher & Engel (2006) using a weakly-nonlinear theory are confirmed in the appropriate ranges of the magnetic Bond number. New nonlinear branches of solitary wave solutions are identified. As the Bond number is varied, the solitary wave profiles may approach a limiting configuration with a trapped toroidal-shaped bubble, or they may approach a static wave (i.e. one with zero phase speed). For a sufficiently large axial rod, the limiting profile may exhibit a cusp
Scaling laws for the elastic scattering amplitude
The partial differential equation for the imaginary part of the elastic
scattering amplitude is derived. It is solved in the black disk limit. The
asymptotical scaling behavior of the amplitude coinciding with the geometrical
scaling is proved. Its extension to preasymptotical region and modifications of
scaling laws for the differential cross section are considered.Comment: 6 p. arXiv admin note: substantial text overlap with arXiv:1206.547
A semiquantitative approach to the impurity-band-related transport properties of GaMnAs nanolayers
We investigate the spin-polarized transport of GaMnAs nanolayers in which a
ferromagnetic order exists below a certain transition temperature. Our
calculation for the self-averaged resistivity takes into account the existence
of an impurity band determining the extended ("metallic" transport) or
localized (hopping by thermal excitation) nature of the states at and near the
Fermi level. Magnetic order and resistivity are inter-related due to the
influence of the spin polarization of the impurity band and the effect of the
Zeeman splitting on the mobility edge. We obtain, for a given range of Mn
concentration and carrier density, a "metallic" behavior in which the transport
by extended carriers dominates at low temperature, and is dominated by the
thermally excited localized carriers near and above the transition temperature.
This gives rise to a conspicuous hump of the resistivity which has been
experimentally observed and brings light onto the relationship between
transport and magnetic properties of this material
Half Quantization
A general dynamical system composed by two coupled sectors is considered. The
initial time configuration of one of these sectors is described by a set of
classical data while the other is described by standard quantum data. These
dynamical systems will be named half quantum. The aim of this paper is to
derive the dynamical evolution of a general half quantum system from its full
quantum formulation. The standard approach would be to use quantum mechanics to
make predictions for the time evolution of the half quantum initial data. The
main problem is how can quantum mechanics be applied to a dynamical system
whose initial time configuration is not described by a set of fully quantum
data. A solution to this problem is presented and used, as a guideline to
obtain a general formulation of coupled classical-quantum dynamics. Finally, a
quantization prescription mapping a given classical theory to the correspondent
half quantum one is presented.Comment: 20 pages, LaTex file, Substantially revised versio
