    The barriers to energy efficiency in China: assessing household electricity savings and consumer behavior in Liaoning Province

    This article investigates the barriers to energy efficiency at the residential sector within one province in China and explores patterns of household electricity consumption. The article presents the results of a survey questionnaire distributed to more than 600 households in Liaoning Province, field research at various Liaoning government agencies, and research interviews of Liaoning government officials to determine the efficacy of their energy efficiency efforts in China. It then investigates the extent that electricity consumers have taken advantage of energy efficiency opportunities relating to more efficient lights, water heaters, appliances, air-conditioners and heaters, and better energy-efficiency labels. The article also assesses the degree that electricity users have become more aware about electricity prices and their levels of consumption, and touches on the connection between rising levels of income and electricity use. It concludes by providing recommendations for how to improve efforts to promote conservation and reduce electricity load growth in Liaoning Province and beyond

    Sensitivity analysis, determination and optimization of granite RHT parameters

    The RHT model has 34 parameters, among which 19 parameters can be obtained by experiments or theoretical calculations and the remaining 15 parameters are difficult to acquire. In this study, firstly, 10 Hopkinson impact tests were conducted to acquire the typical stress-strain curves of granite under dynamic loads. Through the sensitivity analysis, it is found that 13 of the 15 difficultacquired parameters are effective to affect the shape of the stress-strain curve, and the other two parameters have no effect. Following the initial determination of model parameters with reference to the concrete RHT model, a new approach is proposed to optimize the 13 influential parameters through the LS-DYNA numerical simulation and orthogonal experiments. Finally, the determined granite RHT model parameters are verified by the results of Hopkinson impact tests conducted in this study and the bullet penetration test by Wang et al. Both results of the numerical simulations are in a good agreement with the tested results, which validates the suitability of the proposed method to acquire RHT model parameters for granite and the other rocks

    A Method for Determining the Thicknesses of the Reserved Protective Layers in Complex Goafs Using a Joint-Modeling Method of GTS and Flac3D

    In this study, a C-ALS underground cavity scanner was used to detect the shapes of mining goafs. In addition, GTS software was adopted to establish a three-dimensional geological model based on the status of the stopes, geological data, and mechanical parameters of each rock mass and to analyze the roof areas of the goafs. In regard to the morphology of the study area, based on a thin plate theory and the obtained field sampling data, a formula was established for the thicknesses of the reserved protective layers in the goafs. In addition, a formula for the thicknesses of the protective layers in the curved gobs was obtained. The thickness formula of the protective layers was then successfully verified. The detection results showed that the roof shapes of the goafs in the Yuanjiacun Iron Mine were mainly arc-shaped, and the spans of the goafs were generally less than 20 m. The stability of the arc-shaped roofs was found to be greater than that of the plate-shaped roofs. Therefore, by reducing the thicknesses of the protective layers in mining goafs, the ore recovery rates can be increased on the basis of safe production conditions. The formula of the thickness of the security layers obtained through the thin plate theory was revised based on the statistical results of the roof shapes of the goafs and then combined using GTS and FLAC3D. The modeling method successfully verified the stability of the mined-out areas. It was found that the verification results were good, and the revised formula was able to improve the recovery rate of the ore under the conditions of meeting safe production standards. Also, it was found that the revised formula could be used in the present situation. At the same time, it was also determined that the complexity of the rock masses obstructed the full identification of the joints and fissures in the present orebodies. Therefore, it is necessary to incorporate C-ALS underground cavity scanners to regularly observe the shapes of the goafs in order to ensure that stability and safety standards are maintained

    Effect of age on the pharmacokinetics of polymorphic nimodipine in rats after oral administration

    AbstractThe previous investigation has proved that their existed pharmacokinetic difference between the different crystal forms of the polymorphic drugs after oral administration. However, no systemic investigations have been made on the change of this pharmacokinetic difference, resulted either from the physiological or from the pathological factors. In this paper, we used polymorphic nimodipine (Nim) as a model drug and investigated the effect of age difference (2- and 9-month old) on the pharmacokinetics after oral delivery in rats. As the results shown, for L-form of Nim (L-Nim), the AUC0–24h in 2-month-old rats was 343.68±47.15ng·h/mL, which is 23.36% higher than that in 9-month-old rats. For H-form of Nim (H-Nim), the AUC0–24h in 2-month-old rats was 140.91±19.47ng·h/mL, which is 54.64% higher than that in 9-month-old rats. The AUC0–24h ratio between H-Nim and L-Nim was 2.44 in 2-month-old rats and 3.06 in 9-month-old rats. Since age difference could result in unparallelled change of the absorption and bioavailability of the polymorphic drugs, the results in this experiment are of value for further investigation of crystal form selection in clinical trials and rational clinical application of the polymorphic drugs
