How well Do Accounting Education Organizations Prepare Professional Accountants toward Green Concern: Figure of Top 50 Universities in South East Asia Responses on Business Requirement

    Get PDF
This paper aims to capture a picture of university’s commitment toward sustainability development consideration. As a part of it, this paper also tries to map the action taken by accounting education organizations (AEOs) through its programs, including curriculum development, learning method, research, and campus activities programs showing green concern in creating sustainability development. As a descriptive study, this paper used 50 universities on top South-East Asia ranking web of world universities (Webometrics) in 2010. All data is taken from the information published on the web in each university as well as any other information that related to each university from the public domain. Based on the descriptive analysis, it is found that most AEO lay their green-concern on hardcore facilities rather than intrinsic development. Furthermore, as the recommendation in this paper, AEO needs to concentrate more toward designing accounting curriculum, campus events and research that carry ethics and socio-environment consideration to respond to the ultimate demand and balancing the rapid change from various sectors. Eventually, as the future contribution, this paper is expected to encourage AEO, especially in Indonesia to put more concerns and action in the crucial purpose of creating sustainability development

Assessing the Extent of Human Trafficking: Inherent Difficulties and Gradual Progress

This article explores some of the key current research and statistical evidence available on the global scale of trafficking in human beings, and considers the assumption that the occurrence of trafficking is increasing. The value and limita-tions of this statistical data is identified, as is the relationship between the research base and the resulting legal and policy responses. This allows an assessment of whether there is a connection between the perceived problem and the responses to trafficking victims’ circumstances. It questions whether assumptions, generalisations and policies can be based around the available data and the responsibilities of individual countries, including the UK and the wider interna-tional community, in relation to the improvement of data collection. The article also considers signs of progress in terms of data collection and suggests further future improvements that need to be made to the approach taken

Exploring potential power of corporate social responsibility toward sustainability development: analysis of state-owned company social responsibility in Indonesia

    Get PDF
The implementation of corporate social responsibility (CSR) in Indonesia is mostly forced to follow government rules. Government also enacted some regulations that all state-owned companies (SOCs) allocate some of their profits in CSR programs. This paper attempts to analyse the effectiveness of CSR programs run by SOCs, and to assess the contributions of those programs in addressing social and environmental issues – which have been a government agenda. The findings of this paper reveal that government have fostered SOCs to prioritise strengthening economic programs for small-medium enterprises (SMEs). In the other sites, government has minimum attention to encourage SOCs to empower potential rural areas’ economic development as well as to overcome their social issues. The results of this paper are to provide information as guidance for government and SOCs to align each social mission through social responsibility programs in creating sustainable development
