The Recuperating Ability of Cauliflower Coral (Pocillopora Damicornis) and Staghorn Coral (Acropora sp.) to Temperature Stress

Rising temperatures of the world’s waters place our coral reefs under stress, which can lead to coral bleaching, where corals expel their zooxanthellae. With the alarming rates of the depletion of coral reefs over the last 30 years, it is crucial to comprehend the corals’ ability to recover from stressful situations. In this experiment, we will investigate the recuperating ability of the corals Pocillopora Damicornis and Acropora sp. by exposing them to elevated temperatures that causes these corals to “stress”, and then measure their rate of recovery through the comparison of color pigmentations with healthy corals. Terminal branch samples will be collected, with some being placed in a separate tank with aspects equivalent to the original location to establish a control group. The others will be placed in a tank filled with various tools (heaters, water pumps, and artificial light) that can be altered to meet requirements needed to create a “stressful situation”, where atypical conditions take place to disrupt the critical symbiotic relationship between the coral and its zooxanthellae (responsible for the color pigmentation). Thermometers and cameras will be set around the tank to record the progression. We will gradually increase the temperature from ~30°C, to 32°C, and 34°C within two day intervals. After looking for and noting signs of stress, we will gradually decrease the water temperature to ambient and will observe the more resilient species based on returning color pigmentation. Understanding the resilience levels corals possess plays a vital role in the preservation of the reef’s crowning glory

Performance indicators play an important role in the government accountability system as well as policy formulation in areas such as planning, resource allocation, and also good governance. The surveillance system of drug is strategic level, which is one of the national development reform agendas as it really encourages not just to quality of life but also national resilience. The findings of assessment of the drug surveillance system performance indicators surfacing in the period 2015-2019 are perceived to be less sensitive in presenting performance, regarding that accomplishing these targets endures a significant challenge. Citizen engagement can significantly improve governance by either increasing trust in the government and social cohesion. The purpose of this research is to explore the role of citizen in designing performance indicators in the field of drug control. According to a qualitative approach, the typology of citizen engagement in establishing drug control performance indicators is at third level, which is a form of more intense engagement between government institutions and citizens as stakeholders, in which each entity has a role in the determination and affects over the decisions. Instead with citizen engagement, at least certain positive outcomes have been obtained, such as promoting the actualization of both the principles of transparency and accountability, as well as empowering worldviews and explanations on performance indicators which have been formulated, so that they might be of excellent volume as well as the citizen seems to be more ready to favor the performance of government institutions.

Lucerne guidelines for Western Australia principles for integrating a perennial pasture into broadacre dryland farming systems

Lucerne, often regarded as the queen of forages, has been used in agriculture for centuries. In Western Australia, however, its potential has never been fully realised despite its well-documented ability to dewater soils and reduce groundwater recharge. Over the years adoption has been limited by a range of factors including pests and diseases, soil acidity, grazing management and economics. During the last decade research has addressed these issues, paving the way for much greater impact at the farm and catchment level.https://researchlibrary.agric.wa.gov.au/bulletins/1204/thumbnail.jp

STUDY: Socially Aware Temporally Causal Decoder Recommender Systems

Recommender systems are widely used to help people find items that are tailored to their interests. These interests are often influenced by social networks, making it important to use social network information effectively in recommender systems. This is especially true for demographic groups with interests that differ from the majority. This paper introduces STUDY, a Socially-aware Temporally caUsal Decoder recommender sYstem. STUDY introduces a new socially-aware recommender system architecture that is significantly more efficient to learn and train than existing methods. STUDY performs joint inference over socially connected groups in a single forward pass of a modified transformer decoder network. We demonstrate the benefits of STUDY in the recommendation of books for students who are dyslexic, or struggling readers. Dyslexic students often have difficulty engaging with reading material, making it critical to recommend books that are tailored to their interests. We worked with our non-profit partner Learning Ally to evaluate STUDY on a dataset of struggling readers. STUDY was able to generate recommendations that more accurately predicted student engagement, when compared with existing methods.Comment: 15 pages, 5 figure

How to identify and characterize strongly correlated topological semimetals

How strong correlations and topology interplay is a topic of great current interest. In this perspective paper, we focus on correlation-driven gapless phases. We take the time-reversal symmetric Weyl semimetal as an example because it is expected to have clear (albeit nonquantized) topological signatures in the Hall response and because the first strongly correlated representative, the noncentrosymmetric Weyl-Kondo semimetal Ce3_3Bi4_4Pd3_3, has recently been discovered. We summarize its key characteristics and use them to construct a prototype Weyl-Kondo semimetal temperature-magnetic field phase diagram. This allows for a substantiated assessment of other Weyl-Kondo semimetal candidate materials. We also put forward scaling plots of the intrinsic Berry-curvature-induced Hall response vs the inverse Weyl velocity -- a measure of correlation strength, and vs the inverse charge carrier concentration -- a measure of the proximity of Weyl nodes to the Fermi level. They suggest that the topological Hall response is maximized by strong correlations and small carrier concentrations. We hope that our work will guide the search for new Weyl-Kondo semimetals and correlated topological semimetals in general, and also trigger new theoretical work.Comment: 22 pages, 5 figures, 2 table

: Chloride as the major anion in the extracellular fluid plays a role in maintaining fluid and electrolyte balance. One of the factors that influence the levels of serum chloride is sweating during physical exercise. This study aimed to determine the differenceof serum chloride levels before and after moderate intensity exercise in the students of Faculty of Medicine year 2010 Sam Ratulangi University. This is a pre-exsperimental research with pretest and posttest design with 30 students as samples. The samples were chosen using purposive sampling method and the results were analyzed using paired-sample t-test. The results showed the average levels of serum chloride before and after moderate intensity exercise are 106,10 mEq/L and 107,37 mEq/L while paired-sample t-test significance value (p) is 0,000. From the results can be concluded that there is a significant differences in serum chloride levels before and after moderate intensity exercise in the students of Faculty of Medicine year 2010 Sam Ratulangi University

Apart from the health aspect, Covid-19 has also had socio-economic effects from the fragile balance of development that has designed so far. Instantly, humans experience suffering that is difficult to predict when it will stop. The primary aim of this study is to evaluate the fragility of the socio-economic order because of Covid-19. These two motifs are the basic essence of human beings, especially the population in Indonesia. A two-way correlation applied to the IBM SPSS to predict the effect of Covid-19 on poverty, natality, minimum wages, divorce, GRDP per capita, unemployment, and crime over two periods. The database is as cross-section covering ten areas in East Kalimantan Province. We found the importance of the correlation parameter in this study that it turns out that Covid-19 closely related to the minimum wage, unemployment, and crime. Because Covid-19 has a positive effect on these three variables and the probability has met the criteria, this is also the right instrument for the government in determining special strategies. The implications of the research are to contribute to long-term management in disaster mitigation planning
