Undergraduate dissertations in a department of architecture

Undergraduate academic writing in a Department of Architecture offers opportunities as well as challenges. To students, it can be a source of independent research and learning, enriching their development as architects and critics of the built environment; at the same time it can be an obstacle, a perceived impediment to design work. To staff, it can be a chance to share their research interest with colleagues and students, so enriching exchange and debate; it can also be time consuming and not clearly relevant to the formation of a professional. This case study argues that a change in attitude towards the objectives of the dissertation, coupled with careful consideration of its curriculum, can enhance the role that undergraduate academic writing plays in a School of Architecture, extending its benefits to the development of research and design agendas

Issues in multi-media information networks

In an integrated service environment, where users exchange various types of aural and visual information, networks should appear friendly to its users providing tools for management of multi-media information. Networks should also efficiently satisfy diverse performance requirements of different information being exchanged.In this paper we present new architecture for integrated service networks being investigated and developed by the Distributed Computation and Communication Group at the Department of Computer Science in the Columbia University. Research efforts are devoted to developing both (1) document management software to allow users to manipulate and relate text/graphics/voice information in a dynamic way, and (2) a tree network architecture for reliable and efficient exchange of multi-media information

PT. X is a company which engaged in distribution and sea lane expedition since 2005. The products that distributed by PT. X are cement and fertilizer subvention. In support of the business process, marketing department of PT. X doesn't have yet any information system, so that marketing department is using outsource service to support its business process.Marketing department of PT. X needs analysis and design of enterprise architecture information system. Enterprise Architecture Planning is used for the framework. First step of analysis and design of enterprise architecture is analysis of business model and company business strategic. The next step is analysis of recent information technology, understanding the IT problems, and the needs of new IT for the future. After that creating data architecture design and application architecture design based from data and information which obtained from the company. The results of analysis and design of enterprise architecture information system is data architecture report and application portfolio which useful to support business process and information technology improvement for marketing department for PT. X
