Characteristics of cosmic-ray hadronic interactions in the 1015 - 1017 eV range are studied by observing a total of 429 cosmic-ray families of visible energy greater than 100 TeV found in emulsion chamber experiments at high mountain altitudes, Chacaltaya (5200 m above sea level) and the Pamirs (4300 m above sea level). Extensive comparisons were made with simulated families based on models so far proposed, concentrating on the relation between the observed family flux and the behaviour of high-energy showers in the families, hadronic and electromagnetic components. It is concluded that there must be global change in characteristics of hadronic interactions at around 1016 eV deviating from thise known in the accelerator energy range, specially in the forwardmost angular region of the collision. A detailed study of a new shower phenomenon of small-pT particle emissions, pT being of the order of 10 MeV/c, is carried out and its relation to the origin of huge "halo" phenomena associated with extremely high energy families is discussed as one of the possibilities. General characteristics of such super-families are surveyed. © 1992.3702365431Borisov, (1981) Nucl. Observation Of A High-energy Cosmic-ray Family Caused By A Centauro-type Nuclear Interaction In The Joint Emulsion Chamber Experiment At The Pamirs

    Get PDF
An exotic cosmic-ray family event is observed in the large emulsion chamber exposed by the joint at the Pamirs (4360 m above sea level). The family is composed of 120γ-ray-induced showers and 37 hadron-induced showers with individual visible energy exceeding 1 TeV. The decisive feature of the event is the hadron dominance: ΣEγ, ΣE(γ) h, 〈Eγ, 〈E(γ) h〉, 〈Eγ·Rγ〉 and 〈E(γ)·Rh〉 being 298 TeV, 476 TeV, 2.5 TeV, 12.9 TeV, 28.6 GeV m and 173 GeV m, respectively. Most probably the event is due to a Centauro interaction, which occured in the atmosphere at ∼700 m above the chamber. The event will constitute the second beautiful candidate for a Centauro observed at the Pamirs. © 1987.1901-2226233Bayburina, (1981) Nucl. Phys. Here we present a summary of joint discussions on the results of three mountain experiments with large-scale emulsion chambers, at Pamir, Mt. Fuji and Chacaltaya. Observations cover gamma quanta, hadrons and their clusters (called "families"). The following topics are covered, concerning the characteristics of nuclear interactions the energy region 1014-1016 eV: (i) rapid dissipation seen in atmospheric diffusion of high-energy cosmic-rays; (ii) multiplicity and Pt increase in produced pi-mesons in the fragmentation region; (iii) existence of large-Pt jets, (iv) extremely hadron-rich family of the Centauro type; (v) exotic phenomena in the extremely high energy region beyond 1016 eV. © 1981.1911125(1977) Acta Univ. Islamic terrorism has become a part of everyday life. Countless books and dissertations attempt to analyze the activities of Islamic terrorists. On the contrary, Christian terrorist groups operating in countries and regions all around the world receive much less attention, although they are no less dangerous. In the authors' view, "Christian terrorism" can be defined as extremist activities characterized by a high level of violence, which, according to terrorists, is necessary for achieving the religious or, rather, pseudo-religious goals of "purifying" the faith itself and its adherents from all sorts of "filth", of fighting "evil", and of building the "Kingdom of God"-a society of "general prosperity". The article examines the causes, preconditions for the emergence, and activities of the Lord's Resistance Army, analyzes the religious views of its leader Joseph Kony, as well as external and internal factors that have influenced the tactics and strategy of the organization. It also assesses the religious nature of the movement and forecasts the spread of Christian extremism on the African continent.Исламскому терроризму, ставшему в последнее время повседневной реальностью, ежедневно посвящаются статьи и репортажи, о деятельности исламских террористов пишутся книги и диссертации. DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO: SOCIAL TRANSFORMATIONS IN THE ERA OF GLOBALIZATION

    No full text
The article aims to identify the nature of social transformations in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) under illegal minerals mining and smuggling carried out by foreign mining companies, armed groups, criminal groups of neighboring countries, "war barons" and associated "agents". New forms of government and economic activities resulted from government's failure to provide citizens of the eastern parts of the country with required services. In the conditions of complete disregard of national laws and interests regulating social relations, new rules of interaction between individual groups and between individual groups and local and central government authorities were developed. These new forms of social development have nothing to do with chaos: numerous rival centers of power on the fringes of the country exercise effective control, provide services and exploit local population. Poor people of the richest eastern provinces of the DRC who do not benefit from extraction and export of valuable minerals are forced to develop their own "survival strategies", including illegal minerals mining and smuggling. Illegal economic activities form new "legalized" authorities, change values of the Congolese and transform the society. As a result, the anti-government system of public relations reached a high point of development in the eastern regions of the DRC. (C) 2019 Published by Future Academy www.FutureAcademy.org.U

    ЦАР: динамика конфликта

    No full text
The article analyzes the dynamics of the conflict that started in the Central African Republic (CAR) in 2012 and continues to this day, and the motives and interests of its main participants - the rebel coalitions Seleka and Antibalaka. The authors investigate the significance of the political, socio-economic and religious factors of the evolution of behavior and strategies of these two groups. Special attention is paid to the “economy of war”, which developed rapidly amid the political crisis in the CAR. The article notes that even though the ascent of President F.-A. Touadera to power in 2016 marked a new, less violent phase of the conflict, political instability in the country persists and interfaith tensions continue to be acute. A high level of impunity remains a serious problem, while the lack of responsibility for the committed crimes still breeds popular distrust of the government. The article emphasizes that in the African context conflicts often begin at the highest level - between groups of political elites - and only later involve the general population. At the same time, the political environment favors the use of violence as a means to achieve and maintain power. When armed groups get involved in political processes, conflicts are transplanted from the militarypolitical sphere to the civilian environment - local communities, where they are easily interpreted as problems of interethnic and inter-religious differences. Individuals and groups may identify themselves as belonging to a certain identity not because they were born with it, but because of the desire to get related advantages. Conflicts arise when different groups of the population - in this case, in the Central African Republic - perceive political exclusion, economic marginalization and jealousy.С 2012 г.

    No full text
As a multipolar world is emerging, the study of the nature of relations between individual international players - states, groups of states, international and regional organizations, etc. - is becoming increasingly important. Typically, scholars in International Relations and Global Development focus on bilateral and multilateral cooperation; trilateral relations have not yet received sufficient attention in domestic and foreign literature. One of the impetuses for the development of trilateral relations, as well as for their careful examination, was the emergence of the phenomenon of «emerging countries», which in various contexts include China, India, Indonesia, South Korea, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico and even Africa's Angola, Ethiopia and some other states. In many respects such as population size, economic growth rates, increasing influence on global political and socio-economic processes, the scale of cooperation with African countries, including in terms of providing official development assistance (ODA), China occupies a special place in this group of states. As the role of the Celestial Empire on the world stage grows, the expansion and deepening of contacts in various fields between China and other key global actors - the European Union, the United States, Russia, etc. - rise to the forefront of the international agenda. The article explores the nature and dynamics of trilateral relations between China, the EU and African countries represented by the African Union in the field of international development assistance. China's current intensive engagement with African states was provoked by Beijing's search for the resources needed for its booming economy and commodity markets. The European Union's perception of China's activities in Africa as a threat to European interests on the continent has prompted it to take steps to expand trilateral relations, but there remain substantial differences in terms and formats of the provision of development assistance to Africa by Brussels and Beijing.
