Introduction
This volume marks the first sustained study to interrogate how and why issues of sexuality, desire, and economic processes intersect in the literature and culture of the Victorian fin de siĂšcle. At the end of the nineteenth-century, the move towards new models of economic thought marked the transition from a marketplace centred around the fulfilment of âneedsâ to one ministering to anything that might, potentially, be desired. This collection considers how the literature of the period meditates on the interaction between economy and desire, doing so with particular reference to the themes of fetishism, homoeroticism, the literary marketplace, social hierarchy, and consumer culture. Drawing on theoretical and conceptual approaches including queer theory, feminist theory, and gift theory, contributors offer original analyses of work by canonical and lesser-known writers, including Oscar Wilde, A.E. Housman, Baron Corvo, Vernon Lee, Michael Field, and Lucas Malet
Spontaneous Resolution of Intravitreal Steroid-Induced Bilateral Cytomegalovirus Retinitis
A 73-year-old woman underwent vitrectomy and intravitreal triamcinolone acetonide (IVTA) of the right eye and cataract surgery with IVTA of the left eye, for bilateral diabetic macular edema. The patient presented with visual loss in both eyes three-months postoperatively. The fundoscopic examination revealed white-yellow, necrotic peripheral lesions in the superotemporal quadrant of both eyes. Although bilateral acute retinal necrosis was suspected, azotemia resulting from diabetic nephropathy limited the use of acyclovir. Antiviral treatment was not started. A sample of the aqueous humor for polymerase chain reaction (PCR) analysis was obtained. One week later, the PCR results indicated the presence of cytomegalovirus (CMV). Since the retinal lesions did not progress and did not threaten the macula, the patient was followed without treatment for CMV. The retinal lesions progressively regressed and completely resolved in both eyes by six months of follow-up. Patients with IVTA-induced CMV retinitis may not require systemic treatment with ganciclovir
I brytningen mellan framÄtstrÀvan och tillbakagÄng : En jÀmförande studie av parodiska och plagiatoriska drag i fin-de-siÚcle romanerna The Wages of Sin av Lucas Malet (Mary St Leger Kingsley) och Jude the Obscure av Thomas Hardy
Avhandlingen undersöker den brittiska författaren Mary St Leger Kingsleys (aktiv under pseudonymen Lucas Malet) roman The Wages of Sin (1891) och dess förhĂ„llande till Thomas Hardys roman Jude the Obscure (1895). UtgĂ„ende frĂ„n forskaren Talia Schaffers artikel âMalet the Obscure: Thomas Hardy, âLucas Maletâ and the Literary Politics of Early Modernismâ (1996) undersöks om Hardy kan ha plagierat eller parodierat Malets roman och i sĂ„ fall hur.

Contribution to the Optic Nerve
Optic nerve head drusen (ONHD) represent congenital anomaly, which is a form of calcium degeneration of optic nerve head axons. They are initially asymptomatic but may causes progressive optic neuropathy. They are presented as acellular, hyaline deposits of globular appearance in front of the lamina cribrosa (prelaminar segment). They are formed due to altered axonal transport, small diameter of scleral canal, direct compression, or ischemia. Frequent complications: progressive visual field scotoma, ischemic optic neuropathy, central retinal artery or vein occlusion, and neovascularization adjacent to the optic nerve head. Useful diagnostic tools ophthalmoscopy, angiography, standard automated perimetry, B-scan ultrasonography, CT, OCT, HRT, GDx, and electrophysiological examination. Therapeutic procedures are medical, laser, and surgical. Pilot studies confirmed benefit of topical hypotensive drugs even when drusen are not associated with glaucoma. By reducing intraocular pressure, the compression to the optic nerve axons decreases, thus improving perfusion of the optic nerve head. The paper presents young female patient with bilateral optic nerve drusen and progressive visual field defects (scotomas), which implies topical hypotensive therapy. After 6 months scotoma and loss of sensitivity of the visual field were reduced. Neuroprotective drugs are investigated to reduce potential visual morbidity
