La solidarité horizontale chez les personnes âgées. Notes de lecture et de recherche

L'objectif de cet article est d'étayer les assises théoriques et empiriques sous-jacentes au phénomène de la solidarité horizontale chez les aînés. Après avoir forgé le concept de solidarité horizontale (ou intragénérationnelle), l'auteur a résumé quelques théories pouvant expliquer cette réalité. Une synthèse d'études empiriques effectuées sur certains indicateurs montre que la conscience générationnelle existe bien chez les aînés, que la plupart d'entre eux s'identifient à leurs pairs et qu'il y a beaucoup d'entraide parmi eux. Ces phénomènes sont encore plus prégnants quand les personnes âgées vivent dans le même environnement. Toutefois, les échanges se font la plupart du temps de manière informelle ou à l'initiative de certains leaders. Il y a donc des contextes et des sphères dans lesquels la solidarité horizontale se manifeste, mais cette solidarité n'apparaît pas partout.This articie presents the theoretical and empirical foundations of intra-generational solidarity among elderly people. The paper first deals with the concept of intra-generational or (horizontal) solidarity and then summarizes several theories and empirical studies which may explain and contribute to our understanding of this behavioral pattern. For instance, identification among peers and mutual aid between elderly people occur frequently, in particular if they share the same environment. However, these social interactions are, in general, informal or are initiated by a few leaders. These interactions do not occur universally : intra-generational solidarity is observed more frequently in certain situations and social contexts

Logiques sociales et soutien des personnes âgées

La dynamique sous-jacente au soutien des personnes âgées est ici explorée. Un cadre théorique a d'abord été construit et a permis de concevoir les deux logiques sociales auxquelles cette dynamique se rattache, à savoir la prise en charge et la privatisation. L'auteur étudie les rapports entre ces deux logiques de même que les formes de support dont ont bénéficié et bénéficient les Québécois âgés

Les aînés comme force sociale dans la dynamique du développement régional : une recension des écrits

Ce rapport de recherche est une recension d’écrits sur les aînés comme force sociale dans la dynamique du développement régional. Le rapport présente d’abord les aspects théoriques de différents concepts comme ceux : d’aîné, de force sociale et des différents types de développement (social, local, régional et territorial). Par la suite, il examine le rôle des aînés dans la dynamique du développement social et territorial. La conclusion générale de l’ouvrage porte sur les facteurs qui amènent les gens âgés à travailler au développement de leur région, sur les possibilités d’attirer davantage d’aînés dans ce champ d’action et des perspectives de recherche et d’intervention

Biomechanical differences between expert and novice workers in a manual material handling task.

The objective was to verify whether the methods were safer and more efficient when used by expert handlers than by novice handlers. Fifteen expert and fifteen novice handlers were recruited. Their task was to transfer four boxes from a conveyor to a hand trolley. Different characteristics of the load and lifting heights were modified to achieve a larger variety of methods by the participants. The results show that the net moments at the L5/S1 joint were not significantly different (P > .05) for the two groups. However, compared to the novices, the experts bent their lumbar region less ( experts = 54° (SD = 11°) ; novices = 66° (15°) but bent their knees more (experts ≈ 72°( SD ≈ 30°) ; novices ≈ 53°( SD ≈ 33°), which brought them closer to the box. The handler's posture therefore seems to be a major aspect that should be paid specific attention, mainly when there is maximum back loading. Statement of Relevance: The findings of this research will be useful for improving manual material handling training programs. Most biomechanical research is based on novice workers, and adding information about the approach used by expert handlers in performing their tasks will help provide new avenues for reducing the risk of injury caused by this demanding physical task.
