Our work reveals an insecticidal effect of essential oils extracted from aromatic plant Artemissia herba alba on population of insect pests Ephestia kuehniella. The biopesticide is adual mechanism of action. Administered in adults, the essential oil causes significant mortality compared with controls. Whilehis administration on pupae, it extending their pupal development and disrupts reproductive adults by extending the preoviposition period and reducing the period for depositing eggs asfertilized females, who can’t live more than one or two days, which reduces the number of eggs deposited

Oil-Based Mud Cutting as an Additional Raw Material in Clinker Production

Oil-Based Mud (OBM) cutting is a hazardous by-product generated during oil-well drilling. Its chemical composition suggests that it might be suitable as a raw material in cement manufacturing. It is rich in calcium oxide, silica, and aluminium oxide, which are the major oxides in raw materials for cement manufacturing. In this research, OBM cutting is used as a constituent of the raw meal for cement clinker production. Raw meal mixtures were prepared by mixing different ratios of raw materials increasing OBM content. The impact of the addition of OBM cutting on the resulting clinker has been investigated. The results demonstrate that OBM cutting could be recycled in the manufacturing of Portland cement clinker. Clinker prepared using OBM cutting had very similar properties to that prepared from limestone. This result could represent an opportunity for solving an environmental problem. The addition of OBM cutting lowers the calcination temperature, and increases the rate of carbonate dissociation. However, it also leads to a higher free lime in clinker, which is a result of the presence of trace elements, such as barium. Overall, its use as a raw material in cement production could provide a cost-effective, environment-friendly route for the management of OBM cutting

Phosphate ore washing by Na2EDTA for cadmium removal: Optimization of the operating conditions

This paper discusses the extraction of cadmium from phosphate ore by the washing method. Various parameters were investigated for the cadmium extraction from phosphate ore. The results from extraction tests showed that cadmium extraction depends on the nature and concentration of the extracting agent, the liquid/phosphate ore ratio, the temperature and the solution pH. The effi ciency of the nine extracting agents for removing cadmium from phosphate ore was found to be in the order: Na2EDTA > citric acid > tartric acid > ammonium citrate > calcium chloride > ammonium acetate > ammonium chloride > oxalic acid > ammonium hydroxide. In this study cadmium extraction kinetics was best described by the product layer diffusion control model

Simultaneous recovery of heavy metals (Pb, Cd, Zn) from diluted solutions by electroextraction technique

Cadmium is mainly used in galvanoplasty and stabilisation of plastic materials. It accumulates continuously in soils. The analysis of soil samples gave concrete evidence of increase of concentration of this element during the past centunary [1]. Furthermore Cd and Pb attack selectively the kidneys and the liver with enzymatic troubles. The work has enabaled to put into evidence the contribution of the presence of resin to the conventional electrodialysis process. The optimal conditions for the elimination of Cd++, Zn++ and Pb++ ions were determined. These included influence of resin, imposed current density, flow rate of the feeding solution (diluat), different supporting electrolytes used during the electroextraction (HNO3, HCl and H2SO4) and concentration of the solution to be treated [2-3-4]. Furthermore the competition between the electroextraction of the metallic cations Cd++, Zn++and Pb++ was investigated for different mixtures
