The Soul of The Masks:: A Journey Through Mah Meri Indigenous Carvings

As part of their rituals, one of the native tribes of Malaysia, the Mah Meri, carve wooden masks and statues. These masks and statues are used in prayer rituals and ceremonies, and as a way of passing on the culture and heritage of the tribe. The carving of these artefacts was studied to learn about the Mah Meri way of life. With the help of photogrammetry, we digitised the Mah Meri masks and statues and wrote down the stories behind each one. These folktales say a lot about how the Mah Meri treat nature and how much they value it. From this data set, we wanted to see how augmented reality, installations and transmedia storytelling could be used to disseminate and preserve Mah Meri culture and history. We tried to bring the stories that were told to us back to life in a visual format, using the screens on our everyday devices. We turned the oral stories into digital sketches, which were then animated and displayed in an installation. Then, those narratives were changed so that the Mah Meri’s stories can be used in augmented reality story books. We want to show and share this multimedia representation of their folklore with the help of the digital container we have placed them in. The initial aim of the research is to immerse the wider public in the culture and heritage of Mah Meri. In disseminating this “research–creation,” we also want to see what this multimedia output could give back to the Mah Meri community and help them keep their communal knowledge alive and pass it on to the next generation

More Moments with Others Matter for Emotion Regulation and Well-Being: A Study of First-Year College Students’ Daily Life During COVID-19

The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted emerging adult, first-year college students’ daily lives and well-being. Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) recognizes that effective and adaptive emotion regulation can be improved by training skills for managing contextual (ABC) and physiological (PLEASE) factors. An ecological momentary assessment study collected 1,796 data points from 76 first-year students\u27 daily usage of emotion regulation (ER) skills and momentary experiences of well-being (PERMA; Positive emotions, Engagement, Relationship, Meaning, Accomplishment) during COVID-19 in Spring 2020. Research questions explored: (a) Is usage of ER skills associated with elements of momentary PERMA above and beyond trait-level PERMA?; (b) Are lifestyle factors (e.g., day, interaction with people) related to first-year college students’ likelihood of employing ER skills in a given moment? Results from multilevel models revealed that certain DBT ER skills (accumulating positives, building mastery, coping ahead) were consistently predictive of momentary well-being even when controlling for dispositional well-being. Moreover, on days of sufficient sleep hours reported, students reported higher well-being levels; on days with more interaction with other people, students were more likely to engage in ER behaviors; and on weekends students were less likely to engage in ER behaviors (but not avoid substances like alcohol). Findings add to the literature on momentary well-being and ER for the population of first-year college students; limitations and future directions are discussed

Pembangunan infrastruktur khususnya infrastruktur jalan yang dilakukan oleh pemerintah adalah untuk mengatasi kemacetan karena perkembangan jumlah kendaraan bermotor yang terus meningkat yang mendorong pemerintah untuk membangun infrastruktur jalan baru. Pembangunan tanpa pemeliharaan secara berkala dapat berdampak pada rusaknya infrastruktur yang telah dibangun. Pemeliharaan jalan secara manual dengan melakukan pengecekan yang dilakukan oleh manusia, memakan waktu dan sumber daya yang besar sehingga tidak efisien. Sehingga untuk mengatasi masalah tersebut pada tugas akhir ini membuat aplikasi yang menampilkan kerusakan jalan berdasarkan data displacement dan GPS yang telah direkam dengan sensor accelerometer pada smartphone. Aplikasi web gis ini memanfaatkan google map sebagai sarana untuk visualisasi kerusakan jalan. Fuzzy logic digunakan untuk klasifikasi warna lubang pada google map berdasarkan data displacement (kedalaman dan panjang) lubang. Sehingga aplikasi menampilkan level informasi kerusakan jalan. Visualisasi dilakukan dengan interpolasi data gps dengan panjang dan visualisasi tanpa interpolasi data gps dengan panjang. Les frères Duthoit, « derniers imagiers du Moyen Âge » ?

Viollet-le-Duc consacra les « frères Duthoit » par la formule « derniers imagiers du Moyen Âge ». Depuis, cette formule semble indissociable des deux sculpteurs qui vécurent pourtant en plein 19e siècle. Et, si cette appellation nous avait simplifié l’approche de la vie et de l’œuvre des Duthoit autant qu’elle nous avait éloigné de leur complexité ? L’auteure tente de mettre en lumière la réalité de ces deux vies d’artistes aujourd’hui tombés dans un quasi-anonymat.
