Estudio observacional de los intentos autolíticos en el ámbito de emergencias

El intento de suicidio es considerado un importante problema de salud pública y mental con gran impacto en la sociedad, de tal índole que aproximadamente por cada segundo se produce un intento autolítico a nivel mundial. Debido a estas cifras tan sorprendentes se decidió iniciar un programa de recogida de datos por parte del equipo de emergencias de Valladolid sobre los casos de intentos de suicidio atendidos para desarrollar un perfil de conducta autolítica mediante la información relevante obtenida tras su análisis. Este proyecto se llevó a cabo mediante un estudio observacional prospectivo de un muestra constituida por 76 pacientes atendidos por la Unidad Medicalizada de Emergencias de Valladolid 1 por padecimiento de tentativa suicida y/o presencia de ideación suicida en el año 2015-2016, con vista a evaluar su perfil. El intento de suicidio predominó en el sexo femenino y en el rango de edad de 50-59 años, siendo el método autolítico de elección la intoxicación medicamentosa. Destacó significativamente la presencia de ideación suicida, depresión y tratamiento psiquiátrico habitual en estos pacientes, así como el consumo de alcohol antes del acto suicida. Tras la obtención de estos datos se observó que la restricción a medios autolíticos, control farmacológica y revisión médica periódica podrían ser alternativas efectivas para la reducción del gran número de intentos de suicido.Grado en Enfermerí

The nonlinear optics of first-order phase transitions

Nonlinear effects are used to specially broaden the spectrum by the interaction with a material at high intensities. Here we study nonlinear effects in a light induced first-order phase transition of a thin layer of VO2. The behaviour that we’ve found is a step-function evolution of nonlinear effects at the fluence threshold, where the phase transition happens. The spectrum broadens significantly from ∆ω = 0.04 rads/fs up to ∆ω = 1.66 rads/fs

Estudio de patologías sistémicas que pueden producir alteraciones visuales

Existe una gran cantidad de enfermedades sistémicas que pueden producir alteraciones a nivel ocular. La detección precoz de estas alteraciones puede ayudar a prevenir daños irreversibles, como pérdidas de visión, y puede ayudar en su diagnóstico o en el seguimiento de su evolución. En este trabajo se abordan aquellas enfermedades más prevalentes o con mayor número de alteraciones visuales asociadas. Se define de forma breve cada patología, desarrollando posteriormente las alteraciones oculares más características y los signos y síntomas que pueden presentar estos pacientes. Por último, se establecen unas directrices sobre cómo debe actuar el óptico optometrista en cada caso. Esto es importante ya que, como profesional de atención primaria de la salud visual, es su deber orientar y aconsejar a los pacientes sobre las alteraciones oculares que pueden desarrollar como consecuencia de su enfermedad sistémica. From forgotten intranet to successful wiki

Communication within an academic library can be challenging. The collective nature of wikis and their ability to allow multiple people to edit them have made wikis an ideal technology to help address communication issues within organizations. A successful wiki implementation can help to improve communication issues, but only if staff adopt the new technology. University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) libraries implemented an internal staff wiki in 2007 to replace the staff intranet. Information routinely stored on the wiki includes meeting minutes and committee work, policies and procedures and training materials. This paper illustrates the implementation process by providing an overview of the transition with a focus on what went right and what pitfalls were encountered. Best practices will be presented to illustrate how to successfully implement a wiki that library staff willingly reference and edit, concluding with recommendations for maintaining the wiki after implementation

Determinación del papel de las características demográficas de los consumidores en el proceso de formación de lealtad basada en aspectos socialmente responsables

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) has become a crucial element in the corporate strategy of hotel companies. One of the main reasons is that the development of such initiatives favors the development of higher levels of customer loyalty. Similarly, customers´ demographic characteristics are a line of research that has traditionally focused the attention of academics since these features are considered useful tools for market segmentation and customers´ characterization. However, few studies have attempted to explore the role of demographic characteristics of consumers in their behavioral responses based on CSR aspects. Thus, the objective of this study is to analyze the role of three demographic characteristics –gender, age and educational level– in a conceptual model that relates customers´ perception of CSR and consumer loyalty. The results reveal that these demographic variables moderate various relationships in the proposed model.La responsabilidad social corporativa (RSC) se ha convertido en un elemento crucial en la estrategia corporativa de las compañías hoteleras. Una de las principales razones es que el desarrollo de este tipo de iniciativas favorece el desarrollo de mayores niveles de lealtad entre los consumidores. Igualmente, las características demográficas de los consumidores son una línea de investigación que tradicionalmente ha centrado la atención de multitud de investigadores por considerarse herramientas útiles para la segmentación de los mercados y la caracterización de los consumidores. Sin embargo, son pocos los estudios que han tratado de explorar el papel que juegan las características demográficas de los consumidores en sus respuestas comportamentales basadas en aspectos de RSC. De este modo, el objetivo de esta investigación es analizar el papel de tres características demográficas –género, edad y nivel educativo– en un modelo conceptual que relaciona las percepciones de RSC y la lealtad de los consumidores. Users 2.0: Technology at your service

It is exciting, as practicing librarians, to find a singular voice that stands out as a strong influence on the profession. Anne Grodzins Lipow provided one such voice, inspiring us to evaluate our philosophy of patron service and helping us define our professional values. Lipow’s body of work encompasses many contemporary library issues, involving myriad aspects of customer service. Lipow addressed issues including patron-friendly catalogs and reference service in both traditional face-to-face and newer virtual settings, recognized the importance of training staff as part of continuous improvement in customer service, and emphasized the power of using technology to improve delivery of library services. As trends and technologies have evolved, Lipow successfully articulated how those changes could be integrated into the traditional library organization. Her position regarding library issues, including the importance of the “human factor” in reference service, has helped us shape our patron-centered service philosophy. This has impacted the reference service we strive to provide, the issues we advocate for, and the environments in which we work
