The Current Status of Faculty Development Internationally
Excerpt: One of the valuable and exciting changes that have occurred in higher education in the last few decades is the steady growth in faculty development programs internationally. From the first programs that were established in the mid-part of the 20th century, there are now several countries where essentially all colleges and universities have such programs...
The Evaluation of College Teaching
There are few tasks at a university more important than the evaluation of teaching. Without it, professors themselves are unable to determine the direction of needed improvement and thereby become vulnerable to the process of stagnation. Without it, academic units are unable to identify and encourage professors who truly are effective in the classroom with their students
Method for promoting ovulation, parturition, and lactation in mammals
The present invention generally relates to various methods for promoting ovulation, parturition and lactation in female mammals. These benefits are obtained by administering to the mammals a composition containing a D.sub.2 receptor antagonist that does not substantially cross the blood brain barrier. In one embodiment, the D.sub.2 receptor antagonist is domperidone. The domperidone can be administered to the mammal either orally or subcutaneously and can be used to treat, for instance, anestrous mammals, mammals that have problems bearing offspring and mammals suffering from agalactia. Unexpectedly, it has also been discovered that the D.sub.2 receptor antagonist may also stimulate feed intake, causing the mammal to eat more and gain weight faster
Laminitis in horses
The present invention generally relates to various methods for treating the laminitis syndrome in animals. These benefits are obtained by administering to the animals a composition containing an .alpha.-adrenergic antagonist that does not substantially cross the blood brain barrier. In one embodiment, the .alpha.-adrenergic antagonist is domperidone. The domperidone can be administered to the animal either orally, subcutaneously, or intramuscularly and can be used to treat animals suffering from symptoms of laminitis

Decision Support System for Evaluating Rural Water Supply Infrastructure Scenarios
This paper seeks to develop a methodology that will be useful for rural water districts in assessing the future of their water systems infrastructure. In particular, the use of free water simulation software and publicly available data on population, roads, and terrain present rural water systems with the opportunity to analyze their existing distribution system and forecast where problems are likely to occur. This methodology will allow various alternatives (such as consolidation with a neighboring system, or pipe upgrades) to be evaluated and the costs of implementing these alternatives to be explored. Finally, different avenues for funding the associated costs can be summarized and presented to the community, including the steps needed to apply for popular grant and loan programsRural Water, Infrastructure, Simulation, EPANET, Community/Rural/Urban Development, R53, R58,
A Historical Examination of Punishment and Forgiveness in Literature for Children
The study of forgiveness gained momentum in the 1980\u27s when scientists were interested in finding a link between forgiveness and its benefits to mental health. The research resulted in a plethora of published books on the topic of forgiveness, found in the self-help section of many booksellers. However, the topic of forgiveness is often evident in literature for adults and for children, as well. This concept as seen in children\u27s literature has undergone changes over history. This final project analyzes select picture books and books for independent readers and adopts a historical perspective in order to illuminate a historical shift in how punishment and forgiveness play out in literature for children
Willingness to Risk Death Endpoint in HIV Cure-Related Research with Otherwise Healthy Volunteers is Misleading
This viewpoint article critiques two recent articles examining 'willingness to risk death' to advance HIV cure-related research. The 'willingness to risk death' endpoint sends the wrong signal to the HIV cure-related research community about ongoing research in otherwise healthy volunteers living with HIV. Socio-behavioural scientists have examined the acceptability of a 99% risk of death scenario, which is unrealistic and would not be acceptable by current regulatory and ethical standards. We believe that the field needs robust and relevant socio-behavioural research reflecting ongoing biomedical HIV cure-related trials. These studies will need to withstand regulatory and ethical scrutiny if cure or remission regimens are to proceed to the licensing stage. The HIV cure-related research community must continue to protect the public trust in the HIV cure-related research field and sustain societal value generated by such research. We call for the utmost prudence in designing biomedical HIV cure trials as well as in setting up socio-behavioural research experiments related to these complex trials
