To use a new computational method for the problem of the flexural vibration of thin, isotropic rectangular plates with arbitrarily positioned voids. In this paper we use static beam functions under point load as admissible functions and Rayleigh-Ritz method for analysis of discontinuous variation of rigidity of the plates. The voids of plate are expressed continuously by using extended Dirac function, which is defined as Dirac function existing continuously in prescribed region. The governing equation for a plate with voids composed of an isotropic material is formulated without modifying the rigidity of the plates, as done in the equivalent plate analogy. The natural frequencies of simply supported and clamped plates with voids are obtained from the governing equation by this energy method. The model is able to determine the frequency of plates with voids. It is shown that numerical results all converge very fast and are in excellent agreement with other researcher’s results. The numerical results obtained from the solution method used here show good agreement with results obtain form the previous equivalent plates analogy. Maximizing Friend-Making Likelihood for Social Activity Organization

The social presence theory in social psychology suggests that computer-mediated online interactions are inferior to face-to-face, in-person interactions. In this paper, we consider the scenarios of organizing in person friend-making social activities via online social networks (OSNs) and formulate a new research problem, namely, Hop-bounded Maximum Group Friending (HMGF), by modeling both existing friendships and the likelihood of new friend making. To find a set of attendees for socialization activities, HMGF is unique and challenging due to the interplay of the group size, the constraint on existing friendships and the objective function on the likelihood of friend making. We prove that HMGF is NP-Hard, and no approximation algorithm exists unless P = NP. We then propose an error-bounded approximation algorithm to efficiently obtain the solutions very close to the optimal solutions. We conduct a user study to validate our problem formulation and per- form extensive experiments on real datasets to demonstrate the efficiency and effectiveness of our proposed algorithm

Exposing the Functionalities of Neurons for Gated Recurrent Unit Based Sequence-to-Sequence Model

The goal of this paper is to report certain scientific discoveries about a Seq2Seq model. It is known that analyzing the behavior of RNN-based models at the neuron level is considered a more challenging task than analyzing a DNN or CNN models due to their recursive mechanism in nature. This paper aims to provide neuron-level analysis to explain why a vanilla GRU-based Seq2Seq model without attention can achieve token-positioning. We found four different types of neurons: storing, counting, triggering, and outputting and further uncover the mechanism for these neurons to work together in order to produce the right token in the right position.Comment: 9 pages (excluding reference), 10 figure

The structure of high-speed roller door with water film has improved in this study. The flameproof water film system is equipped with a water circulating device to reduce the water consumption of water film system. The water film is generated at the roller box of the high-speed roller door in this study. The heating test is done with the full-scale heating furnace. Both cases of the water film on unexposed surface and water film on exposed surface passed the fire resistance test based on ISO 834, proving that the high-speed roller door with water film system has 120A fire resistance period. The main findings indicate that the water film on exposed surface shows that as the amount of water film evaporated by high temperature inside the furnace must be greater than the evaporation capacity of water film on unexposed surface, the required water supply is 660 L more than the water film on unexposed surface

Background and Purpose. The effect of acupuncture as treatment for poststroke complications is questionable. We performed a randomized, sham-controlled double-blind study to investigate it. Methods. Patients with first-time acute stroke were randomized to receive 24 sessions of either real or sham acupuncture during an eight-week period. The primary outcome measure was change in National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score. Secondary outcome measures included changes in Barthel Index (BI), Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADL), Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAM-D), and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) for pain scores. Results. Of the 52 patients who were randomized to receive acupuncture (n=28) or placebo (n=24), 10 patients in the acupuncture group and 9 patients in the placebo group failed to complete the treatment. In total, 18 patients in the acupuncture group and 15 patients in the control group completed the treatment course. Reduction in pain was significantly greater in the acupuncture group than in the control group (p value = 0.04). There were no significant differences in the other measures between the two groups. Conclusions. Acupuncture provided more effective poststroke pain relief than sham acupuncture treatment. However, acupuncture had no better effect on neurological, functional, and psychological improvement

Extranuclear structural components that mediate dynamic chromosome movements in yeast meiosis

Telomere-led rapid chromosome movements or rapid prophase movements direct fundamental meiotic processes required for successful haploidization of the genome. Critical components of the machinery that generates rapid prophase movements are unknown, and the mechanism underlying rapid prophase movements remains poorly understood. We identified S. cerevisiae Mps2 as the outer nuclear membrane protein that connects the LINC complex with the cytoskeleton. We also demonstrate that the motor Myo2 works together with Mps2 to couple the telomeres to the actin cytoskeleton. Further, we show that Csm4 interacts with Mps2 and is required for perinuclear localization of Myo2, implicating Csm4 as a regulator of the Mps2-Myo2 interaction. We propose a model in which the newly identified functions of Mps2 and Myo2 cooperate with Csm4 to drive chromosome movements in meiotic prophase by coupling telomeres to the actin cytoskeleton.Fil: Lee, Chih Ying. Complete chloroplast genome of Oncidium Gower Ramsey and evaluation of molecular markers for identification and breeding in Oncidiinae

<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p><it>Oncidium </it>spp. produce commercially important orchid cut flowers. However, they are amenable to intergeneric and inter-specific crossing making phylogenetic identification very difficult. Molecular markers derived from the chloroplast genome can provide useful tools for phylogenetic resolution.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>The complete chloroplast genome of the economically important <it>Oncidium </it>variety <it>Onc</it>. Gower Ramsey (Accession no. GQ324949) was determined using a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and Sanger based ABI sequencing. The length of the <it>Oncidium </it>chloroplast genome is 146,484 bp. Genome structure, gene order and orientation are similar to <it>Phalaenopsis</it>, but differ from typical Poaceae, other monocots for which there are several published chloroplast (cp) genome. The <it>Onc</it>. Gower Ramsey chloroplast-encoded <it>NADH dehydrogenase </it>(<it>ndh</it>) genes, except <it>ndhE</it>, lack apparent functions. Deletion and other types of mutations were also found in the <it>ndh </it>genes of 15 other economically important Oncidiinae varieties, except <it>ndhE </it>in some species. The positions of some species in the evolution and taxonomy of Oncidiinae are difficult to identify. To identify the relationships between the 15 Oncidiinae hybrids, eight regions of the <it>Onc</it>. Gower Ramsey chloroplast genome were amplified by PCR for phylogenetic analysis. A total of 7042 bp derived from the eight regions could identify the relationships at the species level, which were supported by high bootstrap values. One particular 1846 bp region, derived from two PCR products (<it>trnH</it>GUG -<it>psbA </it>and <it>trnF</it>GAA-<it>ndhJ</it>) was adequate for correct phylogenetic placement of 13 of the 15 varieties (with the exception of <it>Degarmoara </it>Flying High and <it>Odontoglossum </it>Violetta von Holm). Thus the chloroplast genome provides a useful molecular marker for species identifications.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>In this report, we used <it>Phalaenopsis. aphrodite </it>as a prototype for primer design to complete the <it>Onc</it>. Gower Ramsey genome sequence. Gene annotation showed that most of the <it>ndh </it>genes inOncidiinae, with the exception of <it>ndhE</it>, are non-functional. This phenomenon was observed in all of the Oncidiinae species tested. The genes and chloroplast DNA regions that would be the most useful for phylogenetic analysis were determined to be the <it>trnH</it>GUG-<it>psbA </it>and the <it>trnF</it>GAA-<it>ndhJ </it>regions. We conclude that complete chloroplast genome information is useful for plant phylogenetic and evolutionary studies in <it>Oncidium </it>with applications for breeding and variety identification.</p
