    The LORUN/NAHSA system is a pathfinder for hybrid cosmic ray research combined with education and outreach in the field of astro-particle physics. Particle detectors and radio antennae were mainly setup by students and placed on public buildings. After fully digital data acquisition, coincidence detections were selected.     Sustainable transport modes, travel satisfaction, and emotions: Evidence from car-dependent compact cities

    This study investigates how the use of sustainable transport modes relates to travel satisfaction (general evaluation of travel) and travel affect (emotions during travel) in car-dependent compact cities. Thereby, the study provides evidence on sustainable mobility and travel-related well-being in a context of compact urban form but inadequate provisions for public transport, walking, and cycling. A mixed-methods approach was applied comprising quantitative and qualitative analyses of data from the two major cities of Greece, i.e., Athens and Thessaloniki. Travel satisfaction and travel affect are found to be highest for those who walk for commuting, independently of travel time and other factors. Conversely, travel satisfaction and travel affect are lowest for public transport users, largely due to very long travel times but also poor public transport services in one of the two cities. Results indicate that the experience of traveling by public transport, car, and motorcycle within urban areas greatly depends on transport provision and policies. Overall, findings support the idea that to shift to pleasant, satisfying, and sustainable mobility in car-dependent compact cities, car restrictions should be accompanied by massive improvements in public transport, high-quality walking and cycling infrastructure, and an integrated coordination of different modes

    ICU acquired hypernatremia treated by enteral free water - A retrospective cohort study

    Purpose: ICU acquired hypernatremia (IAH) is associated with increased morbidity and mortality, however treat-ment remains controversial. This study aims to determine the effect of enteral free water suppletion in patients with IAH. Materials and methods: Retrospective single center study in a tertiary ICU. Inclusion criteria: patients with IAH and treatment with enteral free water. Exclusion criteria: patients with renal replacement therapy, diabetic ketoacidosis or hyperosmolar hyperglycaemic state. Primary outcome: change in plasma sodium (in mmol/l) after 5 days treatment. Responders were defined as patients with a decrease in sodium level of 5 mmol/l or more. Results: In total 382 consecutive patients were included. The median sodium level at the start of water therapy was 149 mmol/l (IQR 147-150). The median volume of enteral water was 4423 ml (IQR 3349-5379 ml) after 5 days and mean sodium decrease was 1.87 mmol/l (SD 4.84). There was no significant correlation between the volume of enteral water and sodium decrease (r(2) = 0.01). Conclusions: Treatment with enteral free water did not result in a clinically relevant decrease in serum sodium level in patients with IAH. In addition, the volume of enteral free water and the use of diuretics was unrelated with sodium change over 5 days. (C) 2020 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved

    The Kazhdan-Lusztig conjecture for W-algebras

    The main result in this paper is the character formula for arbitrary irreducible highest weight modules of W algebras. The key ingredient is the functor provided by quantum Hamiltonian reduction, that constructs the W algebras from affine Kac-Moody algebras and in a similar fashion W modules from KM modules. Assuming certain properties of this functor, the W characters are subsequently derived from the Kazhdan-Lusztig conjecture for KM algebras. The result can be formulated in terms of a double coset of the Weyl group of the KM algebra: the Hasse diagrams give the embedding diagrams of the Verma modules and the Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials give the multiplicities in the characters.Comment: uuencoded file, 29 pages latex, 5 figure
