A new Bayesian significance test is adjusted for jump detection in a diffusion process. This is an advantageous procedure for temporal data having extreme valued outliers, like financial data, pluvial or tectonic forces records and others.Comment: 15 pages, 7 figures; real data analysis adde

End-member analysis using salinity, δ18O, and nutrient data shows that while meteoric water dominated the freshwater content, a significant amount of Pacific freshwater was present near Denmark Strait with a maximum in August 2013. While in 2011 and 2012 the net sea ice melt was dominated by brine, in 2013 it became close to zero. The amount of Pacific freshwater observed near Denmark Strait in 2013 is as large as the previous maximum in 1998. This, together with the decrease in meteoric water and brine, suggests a larger contribution from the Canadian Basin. We hypothesize that the increase of Pacific freshwater is the result of enhanced flux through Bering Strait and a shorter pathway of Pacific water through the interior Arctic to Fram Strait. The research leading to these results has received funding from the European Union Seventh Framework Programme (FP7 2007–2013) under grant agreement 308299, NACLIM Project, and from the U.S. National Science Foundation under grant OCE-085041.2015-10-0

Occupational Therapy Interventions Using New Technologies in Children and Adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorder: A Scoping Review

    Get PDF
New technologies (NT) are increasingly used in Occupational Therapy (OT) interventions in people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). We conducted a scoping review to describe OT interventions investigated in scientific literature which use NT in children and adolescents with ASD. Two authors independently searched the scientific databases PubMed, EMBASE, Scopus and Web of Science, carried out a peer-review screening of articles and extracted data. Twenty studies met the inclusion criteria. OT interventions lasted between 1 week and 12 months, consisted of between 1 session per day and 5 sessions per week, were carried out exclusively by an occupational therapist, and the most used NT was the computer (n = 12). The duration of the interventions and assessment measures used varied greatly between studies

Evaluación y rediseño de la red pública educativa : un análisis centralizado

    Get PDF

This paper has a two-folded aim: the determinants of Higher Education demand and the intergenerational educational mobility will be analyzed. As database, the EU-SILC (2005) is proposed. Educational demand function is estimated with a dogit model, while educational mobility is approached by using mobility indexes and transition matrix. Main results, referring to Higher Education demand, show a positive and significant impact on demand of mothers’ attained educational level and gender issues, as long as the presence of children and un-employed in a household has a negative influence. On the other hand, and related to mobility, for the Spanish case, children are more likely to attain higher levels of education than their parents. Besides, parents attaining the highest education level is a strong determinant of their children educational level.Higher Education demand, dogit model, intergenerational educational mobility.

The objective of the present study was to evaluate the role of Ghr on implantation and nitric oxide (NO) secretion, a metabolite that is essential for placenta formation and function. It was evaluated: 1) parameters related to implantation in pregnant female mice injected (s.c.) from Day 3 to Day 7 (peri-implantation period) with: Ghr (4 nmol/animal/day), an antagonist (Ant (D-Lys3)GHRP-6, 6 nmol/animal/day), a combination of both (Ghr+Ant) or isotonic solution (control); 2) the nitrite concentrations in the supernatant of pregnant female uterus (Day 8) incubated in a medium with arginine (for 1 h), with or without Ghr (10-9M) and/or Ant (10-4M). Results were analyzed by two-way ANOVA or repeated measures ANOVA respectively. In experiment 1, not only hyperghrelinemia (Ghr group) but also endogenous Ghr inhibition (Ant group) decreased fetal weight (at gestation Day 18) and mothers weight gain during pregnancy. Ghrelin increased the percentage of embryo loss (Ghr=17.3±6.58 and Ghr+Ant=13.3±3.7 vs control=3.9±4.8 and Ant=6.7±4.0; n=9-12 females/group; p=0.045); Ghr and Ant augmented fetal atrophy (Ghr=71.4%, Ghr+Ant=44.4% and Ant=62.5% vs control=0%; n=7-10 females/group; p<0.01). In experiment 2, the addition of Ghr and/or Ant to the culture medium did not modify supernatant nitrite concentrations (22.5±1.1 µM, n=20). Experiments are actually being performed in order to evaluate nitrite concentration in uteri of pregnant females (Day 8) treated in vivo from Day 3 to Day 7 with Ghr and/or Ant. These results suggest that Ghr has an important role on embryo implantation; nevertheless, do not support the hypothesis that the deleterious effects of hyper or hipoghrelinemia are associated to modification in NO secretion.http://www.revista.fcm.unc.edu.arFil: De Loredo, Nicolás. 3-Methylcrotonyl-CoA carboxylase deficiency detected by tandem mass spectrometry in mexican population.

Tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) was introduced to expand newborn screening in Nuevo Leon, Mexico. This has permitted an increase in the diagnosis of many metabolic disorders including isolated 3 methylcrotonyl CoA carboxylase deficiency (3 MCC). Detection of an elevation of C5OH by MS/MS is associated with leucine catabolism disorders; false positive results are related with maternal transfer or immaturity of the enzymatic systems. The confirmatory diagnosis is based on organic acids test in urine and decreased enzyme activity in fibroblasts. We report three cases of abnormal C5OH in among 42 264 newborns (1:14000).1 The diagnosis was confirmed in only one child (~1:40 000). The incidence of 3 MCC deficiency in our state is similar to that of other populations. This is the first report about the incidence of this disorder in newborns in a Mexican population
