Spontaneous effort causes occult Pendelluft during mechanical ventilation
In the injured lung, local negative pleural pressure generated by diaphragmatic contraction is not uniformly transmitted, but is concentrated in dependent lung. This causes Pendelluft (using EIT), with shift of air from non-dependent to dependent lung regions. Thus, during lung-protective ventilation with strictly limited tidal volume, the presence of strong inspiratory effort can result in a hidden, local over-stretch of the dependent lung
Dalitz plot analysis of e+ e- --> pi0 pi0 gamma events at SQRT(s) ~ M(phi) with the KLOE detector
We have studied the Dalitz plot of the e+ e- --> pi0 pi0 gamma events
collected at SQRT(s) ~ M(phi) with the KLOE detector. In the dipion invariant
mass (Mpp) region below 700 MeV, the process under study is dominated by the
non-resonant process e+ e- --> omega pi0 with omega --> pi0 gamma whereas, for
higher Mpp values, the radiative phi decay to the f0(980) is the dominant
mechanism. Different theoretical models are used to fit the Dalitz plot, taking
also into account a possible contribution of the sigma(600). For each model, we
extract the f0(980) mass and its coupling to pipi, KKbar and to the phi.Comment: 21 pages, 15 figures, 5 tables, submitted to European Physics Journal
Physics with the KLOE-2 experiment at the upgraded DANE
Investigation at a --factory can shed light on several debated issues
in particle physics. We discuss: i) recent theoretical development and
experimental progress in kaon physics relevant for the Standard Model tests in
the flavor sector, ii) the sensitivity we can reach in probing CPT and Quantum
Mechanics from time evolution of entangled kaon states, iii) the interest for
improving on the present measurements of non-leptonic and radiative decays of
kaons and eta/eta mesons, iv) the contribution to understand the
nature of light scalar mesons, and v) the opportunity to search for narrow
di-lepton resonances suggested by recent models proposing a hidden dark-matter
sector. We also report on the physics in the continuum with the
measurements of (multi)hadronic cross sections and the study of gamma gamma
processes.Comment: 60 pages, 41 figures; added affiliation for one of the authors; added
