Hosted by the Johannes Kepler University, Linz, Austria. May 23-24, 2019The objective of any asset is to provide value to the organization, being the corner stone to get a highest possible economic benefit in a sustainable way. An effective asset value management demands method that allow measuring and comparing the expected value with the real value realized at any time during its life cycle for value informed decision-making. Digitalization is providing new data about events and states related to asset condition and risk, information that can be reinterpreted to generate value measure strategies. This paper presents a proposal of TVO (Total Value of Ownership) model where it is possible to quantify and measure the value, including its monitoring throughout the life cycle of the asset and/or system. Proposed TVO model is focused on Safety, one of the most relevant value factors for Industry and Infrastructure sectors. Asset events and states are intrinsically linked to the defined failure modes. Consequently, it is necessary to structure the system information around the failure modes that have been defined, in order to obtain a value measurement index. A railway use case is presented

Lyapunov Based Stability Analysis for Metro Lines

In this work a direct method to measure the stability of metro system lines with respect to a previously constructed time schedule is presented. For this purpose we first model saturation effects using a real time discrete space state representation and then apply a Lyapunov-based stability analysis considering time delays of trains as disturbances. As a result we have been able to define a new set of indexes that relate time delays with the validity of the actual time schedule when falling inside a particular ‘stability area’. Results obtained in a simulated environment show that the new stability indexes are able to evaluate quantitatively and qualitatively the effects of saturation in metro lines as well as predict the need for rescheduling Keywords: metro system, stability, planning, genetic algorithm, artificial intelligence. 1 Introduction The dynamics of metro line systems have been deeply studied by several researchers [1–5,7–10]. Most of these dynamical models are based on the Sasama and Ohkawa [9] linear model. It is well known that such kind of linear models, usually yield simple formulation, implementation and simulation. As a result, some dynamic traffic linear controllers [1–3,7] and real time simulators [3,4] have been proposed. In this work a direct method to measure the stability of metro system lines with respect to a previously constructed time schedule is presented. Cyber physical systems implementation for asset management improvement: A framework for the transition

    Get PDF
Libro en Open AccessThe transformation of the industry due to recent technologies introduction is an evolving process whose engines are competitiveness and sustainability, understood in its broadest sense (environmental, economic and social). This process is facing, due to the current state of scientific and technological development, a new challenge yet even more important: the transition from discrete technological solutions that respond to isolated problems, to a global conception where the assets, plant, processes and engineering systems are conceived, designed and operated as an integrated complex unit. This vision is evolving besides a set of concepts that are, in some way, to guide this development: Smart Factories, Cyber-Physical Systems, Factory of the Future or Industry 4.0, are examples. The full integration of the operation and maintenance (O&M) processes in the production systems is a key topic within this new paradigm. Not only that, this evolution necessarily results in the emergence of new processes and needs of O&M, i.e. also, the O&M will undergo a profound transformation. The transition from actual isolated production assets to such Industry 4.0 with CPS is far from easy. This document presents a proposal to develop such transition adapting one iteration of the Model of Maintenance Management (MMM) integrated into ISO 55000 to the complexity of incorporating “System of Systems” CPSs maintenance. It involves several stages: identification, prioritization, risk management, planning, scheduling, execution, control, and improvement supported by system engineering techniques and agile/concurrent project managemen

Objective: To analyze the level of agreement of the Post-Ureteroscopy Lesion Scale (PULS) and the consequences on its application in clinical practice with more reliable statistical data than the one used in the original work. Methods: 14 URS and 14 micro-URS were performed in 14 female porcine model. All the procedures were video recorded and an anatomopathological analysis was performed in each ureter. Sixteen urologists (9 endourologists and 7 general urologists) and 4 residents evaluated the ureteral lesions according to the PULS, with degrees 0, 1 and ≥2. The agreement was calculated with percentages, Kendall’s W coefficient and the indicators Fleiss’ Kappa and Krippendorff’s Alpha, while the inter-rater agreement was calculated with Spearman’s correlation and Cohen’s Kappa. Results: The percent of agreement was 11.1%. The coefficients were likewise classified as low or very low, with the greatest agreement found among the inexperienced. Also, 50% of the raters did not agree with the rest. Conclusions: The low inter-rater agreement, the specificity of the PULS and the clinical-pathological correlation suggests that this scale is not simple, and probably has a long learning curve.

The fragility of thin discs in galaxies -- II. Thin discs as tracers of the assembly history of galaxies

Thin galactic discs and nuclear stellar discs (NSDs) are fragile structures that can be easily disturbed by merger events. By studying the age of the stellar populations in present-day discs, we can learn about the assembly history of galaxies and place constraints on their past merger events. Following on the steps of our initial work, we explore the fragility of such disc structures in intermediate-mass-ratio dry encounters using the previously constructed NN-body model of the Fornax galaxy NGC 1381 (FCC 170), which hosts both a thin galactic disc and a NSD. We dismiss major and minor encounters, as the former were previously shown to easily destroy thin-disc structures, whereas the latter take several Hubble times to complete in the specific case of FCC 170. The kinematics and structure of the thin galactic disc are dramatically altered by the mergers, whereas the NSD shows a remarkable resilience, exhibiting only a smooth increase of its size when compared to the model evolved in isolation. Our results suggest that thin galactic discs are better tracers for intermediate-mass-ratio mergers, while NSDs may be more useful for major encounters. Based on our simulations and previous analysis of the stellar populations, we concluded that FCC 170 has not experienced any intermediate-mass-ratio dry encounters for at least \sim10 Gyr, as indicated by the age of its thin-disc stellar populations.Comment: 11 pages, 10 figure

Criticality Analysis for Network Utilities Asset Management

    Get PDF
The proposed work describes the main part of asset criticality analysis for Distribution Network Services Providers (DNSP), also known as Network Utilities, the severity-value factors definition. The methodology is based on the risk-based evaluation of assets, considering potential impacts of their failures on network value. Thus, it provides the capability to take maintenance management decision in terms of value and risk, considering the whole network under unique and homogeneous criteria. A hierarchy of assets ranked according to with value and risk will come out of this process, which represents a fundamental result serving as input of the subsequent steps of the asset management process. Specific attention is paid to network utilities issues, characterizing assets in these companies, and the services that they provide. In addition to this, high requirements established by the Service Level Agreements (SLA), that are characteristics of network services contracts, make this methodology especially suitable in this application. In order to illustrate method applicability, an example extracted from a real electrical network use case is included.Unión Europea 64573

Understanding the new Context of Uncertainty and Risk under the 4th Industry Revolution

Proceedings of the 29th European Safety and Reliability Conference (ESREL), 22 – 26 September 2019, Hannover, Germany. Editors, Michael Beer and Enrico ZioThe revolution towards the Industry 4.0, requires as a fundamental challenge the advanced treatment of risk in physical assets according to this new context. This revolution also includes the transition towards a new concept of assets and production systems giving rise to those known as cyber-physical systems (CPS) where the available information and knowledge about the systems and its behaviour should promote a level of control of the risk not known until now. In this context, the transition from classical model for risk management to other concepts, more flexible and dynamic is needed. It is the context that this paper is intended to illustrate, approaching risk control to the available data and technology.
