Improving reading comprehension and self-directed learning through the use of explicit reading strategies and personal blogs on high school students

80 Páginas.Este proyecto de investigación sobre la aplicación de estrategias de lectura para fomentar la comprensión de lectura y el aprendizaje autónomo, se desarrolló con dos sub-grupos de once grado y décimo grado en. IE Concentración Simón Araujo, una escuela secundaria pública en la ciudad de Sincelejo, Colombia. Fueron 30 alumnos en total: 11 varones y 18 mujeres con una edad promedio de 16 años de edad. Esta investigación en el aula pretendió medir cualitativa y cuantitativamente el proceso de comprensión de la lectura a través de un pre-test, un test intermedio y una prueba final; pero también empleó otros procedimientos de producción tales como cuestionarios no-estructurados y productos finales en los blogs que fueron analizados, tanto cuantitativa como cualitativamente; otros tres métodos introspectivos utilizados fueron: el recuerdo estimulado, con el fin de analizar su comprensión real a través de respuestas específicas; el diario del profesor que se analizó cualitativamente, y la validación de algunos participantes, que se utilizó para comparar las notas del profesor. Los resultados indicaron que el uso de la tecnología y la enseñanza explicita y escalonada de las estrategias de lectura, tales como tipos de textos, identificación dela idea principal, ideas de apoyo y aprender a hacer resumen, mejoraron la comprensión lectora de los estudiantes. Además , los estudiantes aprendieron cómo mejorar su comprensión con la aplicación de los diferentes estilos de aprendizaje

“Today at Playcentre, we ….”: What values underpin narrative assessment in Playcentre?

Narrative assessments are widely used in Aotearoa New Zealand’s early childhood services, especially in the form of ‘Learning Stories’. This sociocultural approach to assessment foregrounds the importance of identifying what is valued learning within a particular context. What does this look like within the context of the parent co-operative Playcentre? A small-scale qualitative study brought together focus groups of Playcentre parents to share what Learning Stories are being written, to explore their experiences in writing and using Learning Stories, and to consider what underlying values shape narrative assessment in Playcentres. A major finding is that adult learning and relationship building are key aspects of Learning Stories in Playcentres. The authors argue that because of the positioning of parents as both learners and Kaiako in Playcentre, assessment in Playcentre is fundamentally different to that in teacher-led services

The case of the new Tagus bridge controversy

Tese de doutoramento em Engenharia do Ambiente, especialidade em Sistemas SociaisEste trabalho foca-se no uso da informação em processos de decisão pública em contextos multi-actores, multi-objectivos, e sem resposta única. Recorre a um caso de estudo sobre o processo de decisão da localização da nova travessia do Tejo. Muitos viram a escolha governamental como sendo "meramente política", considerando que a informaqb não foi usada na decisão. Talvez seja verdade, mas houve informação substancial e as pessoas usaram-na, em especial depois da controvérsia gerada pela decisão. Uma solução inesperada, que veio a ganhar o apoio de planeadores e ambientalistas preocupados com sustentabilidade, emergiu de um processo interactivo. A pacífica solução inicial entre duas alternativas tornou-se uma decisão controversa com o aparecimento da terceira opção. É então que o debate se desloca da localização da travessia para o modelo de desenvolvimento desejado para a área metropolitana. A informação foi amplamente usada e transformada no processo, e informação nova foi gerada em fóruns. Apesar da falta de coordenação horizontal, o modelo de desenvolvimento desejado para a área metropolitana e a forte rede de relações (networking) desempenharam um papel integrador. A informação assumiu um papel importante, sendo traduzida em imagens de grande significado. 0 uso da informação conduz à acção. Associações de interesse emergiram e as existentes modificaram estratégias e modos de actuação. Aprenderam a trabalhar em conjunto partilhando recursos, a lidar formalmente com instâncias mais elevadas, e a funcionar em contextos alargados. Foi identificada a necessidade de criar novas instituições e de reestruturar as já existentes para um melhor funcionamento dos processos de decisão pública

Building Qutrit Diagonal Gates from Phase Gadgets

Phase gadgets have proved to be an indispensable tool for reasoning about ZX-diagrams, being used in optimisation and simulation of quantum circuits and the theory of measurement-based quantum computation. In this paper we study phase gadgets for qutrits. We present the flexsymmetric variant of the original qutrit ZX-calculus, which allows for rewriting that is closer in spirit to the original (qubit) ZX-calculus. In this calculus phase gadgets look as you would expect, but there are non-trivial differences in their properties. We devise new qutrit-specific tricks to extend the graphical Fourier theory of qubits, resulting in a translation between the 'additive' phase gadgets and a 'multiplicative' counterpart we dub phase multipliers. This enables us to generalise the qubit notion of multiple-control to qutrits in two ways. The first type is controlling on a single tritstring, while the second type applies the gate a number of times equal to the tritwise multiplication modulo 3 of the control qutrits.We show how both types of control can be implemented for any qutrit Z or X phase gate, ancilla-free, and using only Clifford and phase gates. The first requires a polynomial number of gates and exponentially small phases, while the second requires an exponential number of gates, but constant sized phases. This is interesting, because such a construction is not possible in the qubit setting. As an application of these results we find a construction for emulating arbitrary qubit diagonal unitaries, and specifically find an ancilla-free emulation for the qubit CCZ gate that only requires three single-qutrit non-Clifford gates, provably lower than the four T gates needed for qubits with ancilla.Comment: In Proceedings QPL 2022, arXiv:2311.0837
