Effects of increasing lysine:calorie ratio and dietary fat addition on growth performance and carcass characteristics of growing-finishing gilts
An experiment using 1,200 gilts (60 to 260 lb) was conducted to determine the effects of increasing lysine:calorie ratio and dietary fat addition on growth performance and carcass characteristics. Dietary treatments were arranged in a 2 x 4 factorial with two levels of dietary fat (0 and 6%) and four lysine:calorie ratios in each of the four phases. The appropriate lysine:calorie ratios to maximize growth performance were: 3.56, 2.50 to 2.75, 2.04, and 1.72 from 60 to 100 lb, 100 to 165 lb, 165 to 220 lb, and 220 to 260 lb, respectively. These ratios equate to approximate total lysine levels of 1.15, .90, .75, and .58%, respectively, in corn-soybean meal-based diets with no added fat.; Swine Day, Manhattan, KS, November 18, 199

A total of 1,200 growing-finishing barrows was used to determine the effects of increasing lysine:calorie ratio and dietary fat addition. Dietary treatments were arranged in a 2 x 4 factorial with two levels of fat (0 and 6%) and four lysine:calorie ratios in each of the four phases. The appropriate lysine: calorie ratios to maximize performance were: 3.01,2.25 to 2.50, 1.78 to 1.98, and 1.42 to 1.62 from 75 to 130, 130 to 175, 175 to 220, and 220 to 260 lb, respectively. Economics of adding fat and increasing lysine:calorie ratio in diets for growing-finishing gilts
A total of 1,200 gilts was used to evaluate the economics ofadding fat and increasing lysine:calorie ratio in diets for growing-finishing pigs. Diets were fed in four phases and consisted of a 2 x 4 factorial arrangement with two levels of fat (0 and 6%) and four increasing lysine:calorie ratios. Eight economic scenarios combining com, soybean meal, fat, and hog prices with two packer grading systems were created. Stochastic dominance analysis was performed on 64 alternatives (8 treatments x 8 scenarios). The third and fourth (higher) lysine: calorie ratios increased income over feed cost when fat was added to the diets, except for the high fat price scenario in which the fourth lysine:calorie ratio without added fat dominated. Effects of source and level of dietary lysine on growth performance of pigs from 24 to 48 lb
Three hundred twenty, 24 lb nursery pigs were fed for 19 days to compare the effects of increasing dietary lysine from L-Iysine HCl (L-Lys) or Peptide Plusâ„¢ (PP) on growth performance. Three dietary treatments (1.025, 1.15, and 1.275% lysine) were each formulated with L-Lys and PP. Negative and positive control corn-soybean meal-based diets were formulated to .90 and 1.275% lysine, respectively. Increasing dietary lysine to 1.275% from L-Lys or PP resulted in increased performance; however, pigs fed the positive control diet had the best overall performance.; Swine Day, Manhattan, KS, November 18, 199
Gorilla Park: A Sustainable Space for All (Mobility pilot project)
This project explores urban design and urban systems solutions to address issues of shared mobility, accessibility and urban fragmentation. It is a pilot project to create a park and a shared mobility hub in the borough of Rosemont-La-Petite-Patrie in Montreal. This is to be a node of many in a metropolitan-wide shared mobility system. A shared mobility approach to city planning incorporates notions of Transportation Oriented Development (TOD) and Pedestrian Oriented Development (POD) and links it to notions of smart cities and autonomous transportation. The challenge at hand was to create a public space that incorporates these questions as well as notions of placemaking, community planning and open urbanisms.
The project is part of an urban design studio taught in the Department of Geography Planning and Environment at Concordia University in Montreal, and it takes place in the context of the first edition of the CitéStudio Montreal program, which fosters collaborations between academics, students and the city government.
The solutions explored in this project were conceived by the students of URBS333 - Urban Laboratory (class of 2019-2020) under the supervision of the instructor (S. De la Llata) and in collaboration with stakeholders and neighbours of Gorilla Park. The solutions are divided into five thematic axes (Sustainability, Mobility and Accessibility, Community Engagement, Hard Design and Soft Design)
