Test sequencing in a complex manufacturing system

Testing complex manufacturing systems, like the ASML TWINSCAN [2] lithographic machine, takes a lot of time and costs. Within the Tangram project, methods are investigated to reduce this test costs. In this article, we describe a method which is used to optimize a test sequence such that it takes the least amount of costs, or time. With several cases we demonstrate that this method can be used to optimize test sequences within the manufacturing of a TWINSCAN lithographic machine such that cycle time is reduced

Tradeoffs of Life: between Quality and Quantity Development of the QQ Questionnaire for Cancer Patient Attitudes

The patient's perspective is of prime concern in weighing the benefits and side effects of oncologic treatment. Little is known about patients' preference and attitudes. The authors developed a short questionnaire to assess patient attitudes concerning trade-offs between quality of life and length, or quantity, of life (the QQ Questionnaire). The questionnaire turned out to be feasible for use in various groups of cancer patients. In a factor analysis, the questionnaire was shown to consist of two factors, a Q(uality) and a L(ength) factor. Values of Cronbach's alpha for the Q and L scales (consisting of four items each) were 0.68 and 0.79, respectively. Younger patients and patients who have children assigned relatively more importance to striving for prolonged survival. Contrary to our expectation, no association was found between scores on the two scales and time tradeoff utility scores. The QQ Questionnaire can be used in research settings to study patient attitudes and the stability and determinants of patients' preference

Vermindering ammoniakemissie uit een ligboxenstal door spoelen van een hellende betonvloer = Reduction of a ammonia emission from a cubicle house by flushing an inclined concrete floor

In de stalperiode 1990-1991 is in een mechanisch geventileerde rundveestal, waarin 34 melkkoeien waren gehuisvest, onderzoek uitgevoerd naar de invloed op de ammoniakemissie van spoelen over een hellende betonvloer met giergoot. Met een spoelinstallatie, waarvan de spoelleidingen zich aan weerszijden van de loopgangen bevonden, werd de vloer eenmaal per twee uur gespoeld, nadat de mest met een schuif was verwijderd. De ammoniakemissie, een aantal klimaatsvariabelen en het waterverbruik werden gemeten bij twee verschillende spoelvarianten. Deze werden gekenmerkt door vier variabelen, die op verschillende niveaus konden worden ingesteld, te weten: de waterdruk, de spoeltijd, de frequentie waarmee gespoeld werd en de nippeldiameter. De hoogste emissiereductie bedroeg 34% t.o.v. een situatie zonder spoelen bij een spoeldruk van 60 kPa, een spoeltijd van 2 seconden en een nippeldiameter van 5 mm. Per dag werd 50 l water per koe verbruikt. Er werd geen indicatie gevonden dat de schuiffrequentie van invloed is op de emissie. Bij de andere instelling werd gespoeld met een druk van 150 kPa, een spoeltijd van 4 seconden en een nippeldoorsnede van 3 mm. Het spoelwaterverbruik bij deze instelling was 28 l/koe.dag. De emissiereductie bedroeg 14% t.o.v. de situatie zonder spoelen
