SPECTRAL RESPONSE VARIATIONS AS INDICATORS OF SEASONAL FLOODS IN PANTANAL USING SPOT-VEGETATION TIME SERIES

    Get PDF
Vegetation.s NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) in comparison to the historical standard (1998 to 2012) for each pixel and ten-day period, and compared it with the standardized rainfall estimates from TRMM (Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission). The methodology used allows verifying how much the vegetation cover was above or below its normal behavior, enabling comparisons among different regions due to data standardization. We verified that the Standardized Vegetation Index (SVI) was an indicator of variability of seasonal floods for the Pantanal biome in the dry and rainy seasons of 2011/2012. We also verified a delay in the vegetation spectral response to water conditions. During the rainy season, the SVI was higher than normal due to the rainfall anomalies which led to a lower water layer thus causing an increase in NDVI. The analysis confirms that SVI and satellite-estimated rainfall anomalies were efficient indicators of flood variability in Pantana

Sesame is considered the oldest oleaginous seed in use by mankind. It is a culture of high morphophysiological complexity with great variability in growth habit. The accumulation of nutrients in the sesame crop is, in relative terms, proportional to its average productivity. It is a crop that requires the availability of sufficient amounts of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium to obtain a desired yield. Thus, the aim of this study was to assess the uptake of nutrients for sesame cultivars in two growing seasons conditions semiarid. The experiments were performed in Horta Didatics of Universidade Federal Rural do Semi-Ãrido, in Brazil, from November 2014 to February 2015 (Growing Season I); and from April to July 2015 (Growing Season II). The experimental design was a randomized complete block design with four replications. Treatments were arranged in a split plot where cultivars (CNPA G2, CNPA G3, and CNPA G4) were placed on the following plots with harvesting dates 21, 35, 49, 63, 77, 91, and 105 days after sowing (DAS) of subplots. The vegetative part of the sesame crop had greater uptake of potassium in Growing Season I (the period from November 2014 to February 2015) and of nitrogen in Growing Season II (the period from April to July 2015) for all the cultivars, whereas in the fruits the greatest uptake was that of nitrogen, independent of growing season. As for the total uptake of nutrients at the end of the cycle, it followed the descending order N > K > P in both growing seasons. The period of greatest demand for nutrients occurred between 77 and 105 DAS. In relation to the cultivars, the CNPA G3 obtained larger uptakes in Growing Season I (the period from November 2014 to February 2015), while the CNPA G4 did so in Growing Season II (the period from November 2014 to February 2015)

Objective: This article aims to explore the dichotomy between minimally invasive surgery (MIS) and conventional procedures (PC), analyzing the technological advances and clinical challenges inherent to both approaches. Results: CMI, with its reduced access and innovative technologies, has transformed surgical practice, challenging conventional procedures, which often involve more extensive incisions and prolonged recovery. The evolution of refined instrumentation such as endoscopes and surgical robotics has improved the accuracy of CMI, although challenges such as the learning curve and cost considerations persist. Methodology: The search included several academic databases such as PubMed, Scopus, Scielo, VHL and Web of Science, using specific terms such as "Minimally Invasive Surgery", "Conventional Procedures" and other related terms. Boolean operators were used to optimize the search. The inclusion criteria ensured relevance, covering studies that directly compared clinical results between Minimally Invasive Surgery and conventional procedures. We excluded studies with heterogeneous samples or without pertinent information. Conclusion: The search for a comprehensive understanding of the advantages and limitations of both approaches is constant, encouraging critical reflection on the future of surgery in search of better results for patients.

Aerobic training with a self-selected or predetermined intensity on sleep parameters in adolescents with obesity: a randomized clinical trial

Objectives: To compare the effects of self-selected and predetermined intensity on sleep quality and duration, daytime sleepiness, and sleep efficiency of adolescents with obesity after 12 weeks of aerobic training. Material and Methods: Thirty-seven adolescents (12 girls), 13-18 years old, with obesity (BMI = 95th) were randomized into a predetermined intensity group (PIG), exercise intensity around 60-70% of heart rate reserve; or self-selected intensity group (SIG), the adolescents chose the speed/intensity at the beginning of each session and were able to change it every 5 minutes. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) were used to assess sleep outcomes. Results: No differences were observed for PSQI [0.00 ± 2.00 vs 1.38 ± 2.7; p=0.195; d=0.60 (moderate effect)], sleep duration [-0.95 ± 1.2 vs -0.35 ± 1.6; p=0.358; d=0.41 (small effect)], ESS [(2.10 ± 3.9 vs 1.15 ± 4.5; p=0.195; d=0.23 (small effect)], and sleep efficiency [(81.5 ± 24.0 vs 79.4 ± 17.0; p=0.8.14; d=0.10 (trivial effect)] for the PIG and SIG groups, respectively. Conclusion: Aerobic training at a self- selected or predetermined intensity does not modulate sleep quality, sleep duration and efficiency, and daytime sleepiness, independent of intensity

Several phytogeographic regions (Cerrado, Pantanal, Atlantic Forest, Gran Chaco, and Chiquitano Dry Forests) converge in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, and influence regional biodiversity. Despite a list of birds in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul being published by Nunes et al. (2017), it is necessary to update and critically review avifauna records. In this study, we gathered the results of several records obtained from species lists and online data platforms of the 336 sites in this state over the last decades and grouped them into Main (Primary and Secondary) and Tertiary Lists. The avifauna of Mato Grosso do Sul is composed of 678 species, of which 643 (95%) have records proving their occurrence (Primary List), whereas 34 still lack documentation (Secondary List). The number of related species for Mato Grosso do Sul represents 34% of the Brazilian avifauna. Some species stand out for their unique occurrence in Mato Grosso do Sul, such as Melanerpes cactorum, Celeus lugubris, Phaethornis subochraceus, and Cantorchilus guarayanus, reflecting the influence of different phytogeographic regions of the Chaco and Chiquitano Dry Forests. Migrants represent 20% of the bird community occurring in the state, of which 93 species correspond to migrants from various regions of South America (south and west) and 40 to boreal migrants. Thirty-three species perform nomadic movements across the Pantanal Plain and other regions of the state. Thirty-one species are included in some conservation-threatened categories of global and/or national endangered species lists. Other 30 species are included in the near-threatened category at the global level and 23 at the national level. In addition, species typical of dry forests (in Serra da Bodoquena and Maciço do Urucum) and those from the Atlantic Forest in the south of the state deserve attention due to their restricted distribution and the high anthropogenic pressure on their habitat
