    Childhood Malnutrition In China: Change Of Inequality In A Decade

    A concentration index methodology to analyze the inequality in childhood malnutrition in China is outlined. Height-for-age z score is used as a measure of childhood malnutrition. Using household survey data from nine Chinese provinces, it is found that per-capita household income, household head's education, urban residence and access to a bus stop reduced malnutrition. Child's age had a nonlinear effect on the malnutrition status. Income growth and access to public transportation reduced the inequality, while rural-urban gap, provincial differentiation, and unequal distribution of household head's education increased inequality in childhood malnutrition. Gender is not a factor in either malnutrition status or inequality.     An atomic test of higher-order interference

    Canonical quantum formalism predicts that the interference pattern registered in multi-slit experiments should be a simple combination of patterns observed in two-slit experiments. This has been linked to the validity of Born's rule and verified in precise experiments with photons as well as molecules via nuclear magnetic resonance. Due to the expected universal validity of Born rule, it is instructive to conduct similar tests with yet other physical systems. Here we discuss analogs of triple-slit experiment using atoms allowing tripod energy level configuration, as realisable e.g. with alkaline-earth-like atoms. We cover all the stages of the setup including various ways of implementing analogs of slit blockers. The precision of the final setup is estimated and offers improvement over the previous experiments.Comment: 7 pages, 4 figure

    Deer-vehicle collisions (DVCs) are extremely dangerous, often injuring or even killing drivers. Unfortunately, this form of automotive accident is commonplace in the United States. According to the NHTSA, DVCs result in 200 human deaths a year.2 Despite these deadly incidents, there currently are no deployed federal or state systems for preventing DVCs. There are many consumer electronic deer deterrent products, but their long-term effectiveness is questionable.3 In fact, there does not appear to be much research into electronic deer deterrent systems. Aside from constant audio output and electric shock, no other means of electronic deterrent exist. Even if fixed deterrents were effective at repelling deer, these would further divide shrinking animal wildlife ecosystems, so this would not be a viable ecological solution. As such, different methods of preventing DVCs need to be explored. One option would be to warn deer of incoming vehicles. Deer are intelligent and are capable of understanding potential harm. This project is to provide an easy means to experiment with different deer warning methods by delivering a prototyping system. As such, the system should be simple to understand and widely extensible

Males consumed alcohol significantly more frequently and in greater quantities than did females. A significantly higher proportion of males also experienced problems resulting from their drinking. Beer was the alcoholic beverage of choice for both males and females. Most students of both genders drank with friends, and most have also consumed with their parents; about half reported that their parents approved of their alcohol consumption. The results support earlier observations that moderate drinking is widely accepted in the Chinese culture and results in few problems
