Xavier Benguerel’s novels self translated into Spanish

L’objectiu de l’article és analitzar la manera com les traduccions i les autotraduccions de les novel·les de Xavier Benguerel es relacionen amb el mercat editorial barceloní durant la postguerra. Primerament s’examina la poètica traductològica de Benguerel (aplicada a la seva obra o a la d’altri). Després es fa una valoració general de les seves autotraduccions al castellà. A l’hora d’analitzar-les es tenen en compte: a) els condicionants històrics que dificulten la labor creativa (la redacció dels originals, la traducció i la subsegüent publicació); b) el desenvolupament, entre els anys 1960 i 1970, d’un mercat editorial barceloní que, a poc a poc, permet de visibilitzar la literatura catalana de postguerra.The aim of this article is to analyse the way in which the translations and self-translations of Xavier Benguerel’s novels are related to the publishing market in Barcelona during the postwar period. First, Berenguel’s own poetic translation method (applied both to his own work and to that of others) is analysed. There then follows a general evaluation of his self-translations into Spanish. When carrying out the analysis the following factors are taken into account: a) historical conditioners which make the creative task (writing of originals and translation, and their subsequent publication) more difficult; b) the evolution of a publishing market in Barcelona in the 1960s and 1970s, which gave visibility to the Catalan literature of the post-war period

El relat del viatge A weekend (d'estiu) a Nova York (1955) de Josep Pla

El 1955 Josep Pla publicava el llibre Week-end (d'estiu) a New York, tercera sèrie de les «Cartes de lluny», i recull de les cròniques del viatge a Nova York que havia publicat a Destino un any abans, amb motiu d'un viatge que li encarregà l'editor Josep Vergés l'estiu del 1954. El 1960 les cròniques foren integrades en el volum Viaje a América, amb un pròleg de Nèstor Luján. Finalment, l'any 1978, el volum 34 de l'Obra completa inclourà la crònica del viatge sota l'epígraf Les Amèriques. El llibre de Pla de 1955 s'insereix en una tradició de literatura de viatges que va arrelant amb força a l'Europa de després de la segona guerra mundial. L'objectiu de l'article és analitzar Weekend (d'estiu) a Nova York des d'una doble perspectiva: 1) l'interès per Nord-Amèrica i la seva recreació literària en la tradició de cròniques de viatges de postguerra d'escriptors que viatgen als Estats Units durant els anys 40 i 50; 2) els trets estilístics de la literatura de viatges planiana.In 1955 Josep Pla's Week-end (d'estiu) a New York was published, the third volume in the «Cartes de lluny» collection. This book, commissioned by Pla's editor Josep Vergés during the summer of 1954, compiled his articles on his trip to New York. In 1960, these articles were included in the volume Viaje a América, with a preface by Nèstor Luján. Finally, in 1978, they were included in the 34th volume of his Obra completa, entitled Les Amèriques. Weekend (d'estiu) a Nova York is related to post-war travel literature. This article analyzes Weekend (d'estiu) a Nova York from two points of view: 1) the general interest in North America and the development of post-war travel literature written by authors who travelled to the United States in the 1940s and 1950s; and 2) the style of Josep Pla's travel writing
