Entropy inequalities for some multivariate distributions

    Get PDF
AbstractIn this paper, we derive some monotonicity properties of generalized entropy functionals of various multivariate distributions. These include the distributions of random eigenvalues arising in many hypothesis testing problems in multivariate analysis; the multivariate Liouville distributions; and the noncentral Wishart distributions

Prediabetes, dyslipidemia and c-reactive protein levels among stroke patients: a hospital-based study in north-east India

Background: Stroke is defined as an abrupt onset of a neurologic deficit lasting for more than 24 hours that is attributable to a focal vascular cause. Hyperglycemia and dyslipidemia are often documented in stroke patients. Elevated CRP level is independently associated with the excessive risk of ischemic stroke. Aim and Objectives were to evaluate the glycemic status, lipid profile and c-reactive protein level in stroke patients admitted in a teaching institute of north-east India. Methods: A cross-sectional hospital-based study conducted in the department of medicine, Agartala Government Medical College and GBP hospital, within a period of January 2020 to June 2021. Data were analyzed by SPSS software version 15 using appropriate statistical tests. Results: Among 200 patients of stroke, 50% was found to be pre-diabetic, 40% known diabetic and 10% newly diagnosed diabetic. 60% were hypertensives. Among them, 80% had ischaemic stroke and 20% hemorrhagic stroke. 70% of the patients had hypercholesterolemia, 60% had hypertriglyceridemia. 80% had raised serum LDL and 57% decreased serum HDL. Out of 200 patients, 60% was found to have raised serum CRP level. 55% of ischaemic stroke patients and 5% of hemorrhagic stroke patients had raised CRP level. Conclusions: Prediabetes and newly diagnosed diabetes are highly prevalent in patients with stroke or TIA. As the prevalence of prediabetes is growing rapidly, prediabetes might become one of the most important modifiable therapeutic targets in both primary and secondary prevention. Early detection of dyslipidemia and treatment with drugs along with dietary modifications and lifestyle changes can reduce the risk of stroke. Since, it was a cross-sectional study, these results need to be validated by further long-term prospective studies

Tm-Yb doped optical fiber performance with variation of host-glass composition

    Get PDF
The fabrication process of Thulium-Ytterbium doped optical fiber comprising different host glass through the Modified Chemical Vapor Deposition (MCVD) coupled with solution doping technique is presented. The material and optical performance of different fibers are compared with special emphasis on their lasing efficiency for 2 µm application

Philautus sanctisilvaticus (Anura: Rhacophoridae), a new frog from the sacred groves of Amarkantak, Central India

    Get PDF
A new species of Philautus is described from the vicinity of Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh in south-eastern India. The new species is compared with congeners from peninsular India and Sri Lanka. Since the members of the genus are restricted to wet evergreen forests of the region, remnant patches of wet forests within a now largely degraded and arid Eastern Ghats are apparently refugia, supporting species that are tolerant of mesic conditions. Immunogenic Modulations Induced by Prospective Anti-Malarial Herbal Extracts in Murine Model

    Get PDF
Keeping in view the ever increasing problem of drug resistance and affordability of the antimalarial drugs by the poor mass, herbal medicines can become an important and alternative sustainable strategy for malaria treatment. Aqueous extracts of three Himalayan herbs― _Equisetum ravense_, _Artemisia vulgaris_ and _Centella asiatica_, with reported antimalarial property were screened for clinical efficacy against a local strain of _Plasmodium vivax_ antigen in murine model. _E. arvense_ extract was consistent in boosting phagocytic activity, nitric oxide generation, acid phosphatase and alkaline phosphatase activities in the peritoneal macrophages. The effectiveness of the rest herbals was discrete. A need for further detailed investigation to evaluate the clinical efficacy of these herbals seems essential

Leptobrachium smithi Matsui, Nabitabhata, and Panha, 1999 (Anura: Megophryidae), an Addition to the Fauna of Myanmar (Burma)

    Get PDF
Three specimens of Leptobrachium from the collections of the Zoological Survey of India are identified as Leptobrachium smithi. These specimens were collected by Limborg in 1877. These are the first confirmed records of Leptobrachium smithi for Myanmar

A new species of Scutiger (Anura : Megophryidae) from Nagaland, North Eastern, India

The anuran genus Scutiger, assigned by some (e.g. Frost, 1 985 and Duellman, 1 993) to the family Pelobatidae, and by other more recent workers (e.g. Fu et al., 1 997; Fu & Murphy, 1 997) to Megophryidae, contains 32 nominal species. While the apparent centre of radiation of the genus is China, three species (S. nyingchiensis Fei, 1 977; S. occidentalis Dubois, 1 977 and S. sikimmensis Blyth, 1 854) have been recorded from India (Inger & Dutta, 1 986; Dutta, 1 997). Until now, a single species, S. sikimmensis, has been recorded from the north-eastern region of India (see Chanda, 1 994). A well-preserved adult male Scutiger received by the Zoological Survey of India serves as the basis for the description of a new species. The material was collected from Nagaland, in north-eastern Indi
