Lyme carditis can be a clinical manifestation of the early disseminated stage of Lyme disease caused by the tick-transmittedpathogen Borrelia burgdorferi. We present the case of a 41 year-old Caucasian woman referred to our hospital with symptomsof fatigue, progressive exertional dyspnoea, supraventricular cardiac arrhythmia, and an enlarged heart revealed on chestradiography. Following an untypical result of transthoracic echocardiography, cardiac magnetic resonance was performed. This showed structural cardiac changes and focus of late gadolinium enhancement in the midwall of the apex region. Furtherdiagnostic processes, including endomyocardial biopsy and serology tests, made it possible to diagnose Lyme carditis. Clinicalobservation was followed-up for three years

Changing Energy Supplier on the Market with a Strong Position of Incumbent Suppliers—Polish Example

The purpose of the study is to identify factors affecting the intention to change an energy supplier. This is in a country, Poland, where competition in the energy market has been intensifying over several years, but incumbent suppliers still have an extremely strong position on the market, and the tendency to change an energy supplier is relatively low. The survey was conducted in 2020 on a sample of 1216 adults. The research results were used for a multigroup SEM (Structural Equation Modelling) analysis using AMOS 26. The main findings indicated a strong impact on a general image of a company, as well as the lack of importance of a green image of the current energy supplier. In the general research approach, there are no visible differences in the impact of the perceived price transparency on the intention to switch the supplier. However, taking into consideration two groups (a low energy bill vs. a high energy bill), some interesting differences are visible. In the markets with low consumers’ intention to switch, the strong position of incumbent suppliers is due to their exceptionally strong image in these markets. Spending time on maintenance is the biggest disadvantage for new energy suppliers who, when entering the market, have to look for differentiators

Perspectives for Tourism Development in the Post-Pandemic Period in the Opinions of University Students

The dynamic growth and evolution of tourism in recent times and its growing importance for the economies of many countries has been drastically hampered by the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic has not only affected tourism through travel restrictions and the associated difficulties faced by the tourism industry, but it has also changed people’s tourism preferences (mass tourism has been replaced by more sustainable tourism), as well as their motives for undertaking tourism. The aim of this study is to assess students’ views on the role of the COVID-19 pandemic in shaping their tourism experiences and beliefs about the future of tourism in the perspective of the pandemic and its global implications. The issue is of interest given the young age of the study participants and the belief that they are key influencers in shaping the image of global tourism in the post-pandemic period. The participants of this study were 196 students from higher education institutions in Gdansk, representing both tourism- and non-tourism-related majors. The aim of this study was achieved using the diagnostic survey method, collecting information about the respondents’ beliefs based on a research tool in the form of a survey questionnaire. The results suggest that tourism activities and students’ motives for engaging in them may change after the pandemic expires compared to before COVID-19. In general, studying tourism is associated with moderate attitudes towards the aftermath of the coronavirus compared to the more radical responses of students who do not study tourism. A limitation of this pilot study was the geographical restriction of the respondents to the Polish population, which makes it difficult at this stage to draw more generalized conclusions

Lyme carditis is a well known disorder; however, its diagnosis still remains a challenge because of varied clinical picture, low incidence rate and difficulties in detection of the aetiological agent (Borrelia burgdorferi). We report a case of a 60-year-old man with a 2.5-year history of dilated cardiomyopathy, recurring episodes of acute heart failure and arrhythmias which finally were diagnosed as Lyme carditis. The diagnosis was confirmed by endomyocardial biopsy that revealed spirochetes as well as by serological tests which showed complexed Borrelia antibodies. The patient responded to treatment with ceftriaxone and doxycycline
