Transformación Socioespacial en la Comarca Noroccidental de La Gomera. EL Caso de Alojera

Alojera, situada al noroeste del municipio de Vallehermoso, se presenta como un lugar de numerosos contrastes, con una escasa vegetación, consecuencia de una época de cultivo intenso, pero donde, sin embargo, aparece un vergel de palmeras prácticamente por cada naciente. Durante la segunda mitad del siglo XX, se comienza a palpar una serie de cambios en la localidad derivado de unas transformaciones en el contexto social y económico en la isla, las cuales hicieron que Alojera pasara de ser prácticamente uno de los principales núcleos económicos y demográficos de Vallehermoso, principalmente debido a los cultivos de exportación, a quedar en franca regresión y hoy solo quedan algunos resquicios de lo que fue este boyante núcleo en un tiempo pretérito. Actualmente, se encuentra en una preocupante situación, debido a un más que notorio envejecimiento de la población, un difícil reemplazo generacional y unas perspectivas económicas que ejercen de nulo polo de atracción de población joven activa que quiera residir en la localidad.Alojera, located in the northwest of the municipality of Vallehermoso, presents itself as a place of numerous contrasts, with a sparse vegetation, a consequence of a season of intense cultivation, but where, however, a palm grove appears practically for each spring. A differential equation for the flow rate during silo discharge : Beyond the Beverloo rule

We present a differential equation for the flow rate of granular materials during the discharge of a silo. This is based in the energy balance of the variable mass system in contrast with the traditional derivations based on heuristic postulates such as the free fall arch. We show that this new equation is consistent with the well known Beverloo rule, providing an independent estimate for the universal Beverloo prefactor. El texto iconográfico se produce en un contexto. No obstante, nos formulamos una pregunta: ¿otorga o se le otorga poder? En este sentido, desde la palabra, la escritura o la imagen se nutre de significado y desde la educación se puede semantizar. De hecho, son muy pocas las sociedades actuales que no están influenciadas por la continua presencia del lenguaje icónico y su alrededor. Fruto de la contemporaneidad, de la inmediatez de la información e, incluso, de la informatización de la sociedad y el consumo en el hogar, en el trabajo, en el esparcimiento... Efectos secundarios de la medicación antipsicótica y calidad de vida del paciente esquizofrénico hospitalizado

El presente estudio realiza una descripción detallada de los efectos secundarios derivados de la medicación antipsicótica presentes en una muestra de pacientes con esquizofrenia ingresados en la URA del Hospital Psiquiátrico de Santa Cruz de Tenerife, así como un análisis de su calidad de vida percibida. La muestra consistió en 8 pacientes que fueron evaluados mediante las escalas GASS (Glasgow Antipsychotic Side-effect Scale) y S-QoL-18 (Schizophrenia Quality of Life Questionnaire Short Form). La media del resultado global de la escala GASS fué de 24,63 (efectos secundarios moderados) y la del S-QoL-18 de 54,75 puntos. De los pacientes con pauta de antipsicóticos atípicos, la media de la escala GASS fue de 19,2 (efectos secundarios ausentes/leves) y la del S-QoL-18 54,6. De los pacientes con terapia mixta (antipsicóticos típicos + antipsicóticos atípicos), la media de la escala GASS fue de 33,6 (efectos secundarios moderados) y la del S-QoL-18 55. De los resultados obtenidos se discierne que los pacientes esquizofrénicos tratados tanto con antipsicóticos atípicos como con terapia mixta presentan una amplia gama de efectos secundarios que deben tenerse en cuenta a la hora de evaluar su estado general y su calidad de vida y que existe cierta recurrencia respecto a los grupos de efectos secundarios y efectos secundarios más frecuentes tanto entre los estudios que se han consultado como en el presente estudio. Asimismo se plantea la posibilidad de que el tipo de medicación o los efectos secundarios tal vez no sean el factor más determinante en la calidad de vida del paciente esquizofrénico.This study describes in a detailed manner the side effects caused by antipsychotic medication in a sample of schizophrenic inpatients from the URA of the psychiatric hospital of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and analyzes the patient’s perceived quality of life. The sample consisted of 8 patients who were evaluated using the Glasgow Antipsychotic Side-effect Scale (GASS) and the Schizophrenia Quality of Life Questionnaire Short Form (S-QoL-18). GASS mean score was 24.625 (moderate side effects) and S-QoL-18 mean score was 54.75 points. For patients taking atypical antipsychotics, GASS mean score was 19.2 (absent/mild side effects) and 54,6 for the S-QoL-18 scale. For patients with combined treatment (typical antipsychotics + atypical antipsychotics), GASS mean score was 33.6 (moderate side effects) and 55 for the S-QoL-18 scale. The results obtained show that schizophrenic patients treated with both atypical antipsychotics and mixed therapy have a wide range of side effects that must be taken into account when evaluating their general condition and quality of life, and that there is a certain recurrence related to to the most frequent groups of side effects and side effects both among the studies that have been reviewed and the present study. It also raises the possibility that the type of medication or side effects may not be the most determining factors affecting quality of life in the schizophrenic patient

Characterization of the distribution of water vapour for DInSAR studies on the volcanic island of Tenerife, Canary Islands

Measurements of ground displacement have been carried out on the entire active volcanic island of Tenerife, Canary Islands, by means of classical and advanced DInSAR techniques. The main limiting factor on the accuracy of DInSAR measurements is the distribution of the water vapour in the lower troposphere. Hence, it is yet necessary to perform a detailed spatial and temporal characterization of water vapour to understand, and to be able to carry out a direct computation of, the effect of the tropospheric delay on DInSAR results. In this sense, satellite and balloon data have been analysed to infer the variability in the distribution of water vapour and hence, the robustness of DInSAR results on the island of Tenerife.Peer reviewe

Alcoholic Beverages Obtained from Black Mulberry

Black mulberry (Morus nigra) is a fruit not known only for its nutritional qualities and its flavour, but also for its traditional use in natural medicine as it has a high content of active therapeutic compounds. However, this fruit is not widely produced in Spain but some trees are still found growing in the Canary Islands, particularly on the edges of the ravine. The inhabitants of these islands (Tenerife, La Gomera, La Palma, El Hierro and Lanzarote) collect the fruit and prepare homemade beverages for medicinal purposes. Numerous authors have reported that type II diabetes mellitus can be controlled by taking a mixture containing black mulberry and water. Apart from that, this fruit has been used for the treatment of mouth, tongue and throat inflammations. In this study we present some characteristics of black mulberry juice (TSS, pH, titratable acidity, citric acid, lactic acid, polyphenols, anthocyanins, the potassium etc.) and alcoholic beverages (alcoholic grade, pH, total acidity, volatile acidity, tannins, phenols etc.) obtained from black mulberry. Moreover, we have studied the quality of liquors obtained from black mulberry in Canary Islands
