Red list assessment of nine Aegilops species in Armenia
The aims of this study are to determine the geographical and ecological distribution of nine Aegilops species in Republic of Armenia and to make an assessment of their IUCN Red List status, using the IUCN Red list categories and criteria, in order to develop an in situ conservation strategy for wild relatives of wheat in Armenia. Ecogeographic surveys of nine Aegilops species were undertaken over 2 years in Armenia. They included a herbarium survey followed by extensive ground-truthing field surveys where targeted Aegilops species occur. The study showed that of the nine Aegilops species studied, four are threatened and of these, Ae. mutica and Ae. crassa are critically endangered. The latter species may even be extinct in Armenia. Ae. neglecta and A. biuncialis are endangered. Additional studies are required to assess the threat status of Ae. umbellulata. Ae. columnaris was assessed as near threatened, while the remaining species (Ae. triuncialis, Ae. cylindrica and Ae. tauschii) are of least concern. There has been a dramatic decline in the genetic resources of Aegilops species during recent years in Armenia as a result of adverse human impacts such as expansion of agriculture, urbanization and uncontrolled grazing. Several species, especially Ae. mutica and Ae. crassa, should be prioritized in conservation activities in Armenia. Efforts should be made to conserve genetic diversity of crop wild relative species both in situ and ex situ, bearing in mind that their germplasm carries potentially valuable information (traits) that can improve adaptability and productivity of cultivated wheat varieties
Эндоскопическая диагностика и лечение ятрогенных разрывов трахеи
Abstract Respiratory tract trauma is not only the result of injuries to the chest and neck, but may be iatrogenic as well. Diagnosis of iatrogenic damage to the trachea is based on data from clinical and instrumental studies. Among the instrumental diagnostic measures, preference is given to early fibrobronchoscopy.The aim of the study is to assess the possibilities of fiberoptic bronchoscopy in the diagnosis of iatrogenic tracheal injuries. Materials and methods. This study analyzed the use of fiberoptic bronchoscopy in 51 patients with suspected iatrogenic damage to the trachea. For iatrogenic ruptures of the trachea, the location on the posterior (membranous) wall and the longitudinal direction (100%), as well as location in the lower and middle thoracic sections of the trachea (71.4%), are typical.Conclusion Bronchoscopy is a direct method for diagnosing this type of damage, which allows the location, size of the defect and tactics to be accurately determined.РЕЗЮМЕ Повреждения дыхательных путей являются не только следствием травмы груди и шеи, но и носят ятрогенный характер. Диагностика ятрогенных повреждений трахеи основывается на данных клинических и инструментальных исследований. Среди инструментальных диагностических мероприятий предпочтение отдается ранней фибробронхоскопии.ЦЕЛЬ Оценка возможностей фибробронхоскопии в диагностике ятрогенных повреждений трахеи.МАТЕРИАЛ И МЕТОДЫ В данном исследовании проведен анализ использования фибробронхоскопии у 51 пациента с подозрением на ятрогенное повреждение трахеи. Для ятрогенных разрывов трахеи типичными являются расположение на задней (мембранозной) стенке и продольное направление (100%), а также локализация в нижне- и среднегрудном отделах трахеи (71,4%).ЗАКЛЮЧЕНИЕ Бронхоскопия является прямым методом диагностики этого вида повреждения, которая позволяет точно установить локализацию, размеры дефекта и определить тактику ведения данной категории больных

There's an App for That:Development of an Application to Operationalize the Global Diet Quality Score
BACKGROUND: The global diet quality score (GDQS) is a simple, standardized metric appropriate for population-based measurement of diet quality globally.OBJECTIVES: We aimed to operationalize data collection by modifying the quantity of consumption cutoffs originally developed for the GDQS food groups and to statistically evaluate the performance of the operationalized GDQS relative to the original GDQS against nutrient adequacy and noncommunicable disease (NCD)-related outcomes.METHODS: The GDQS application uses a 24-h open-recall to collect a full list of all foods consumed during the previous day or night, and automatically classifies them into corresponding GDQS food group. Respondents use a set of 10 cubes in a range of predetermined sizes to determine if the quantity consumed per GDQS food group was below, or equal to or above food group-specific cutoffs established in grams. Because there is only a total of 10 cubes but as many as 54 cutoffs for the GDQS food groups, the operationalized cutoffs differ slightly from the original GDQS cutoffs.RESULTS: A secondary analysis using 5 cross-sectional datasets comparing the GDQS with the original and operationalized cutoffs showed that the operationalized GDQS remained strongly correlated with nutrient adequacy and was equally sensitive to anthropometric and other clinical measures of NCD risk. In a secondary analysis of a longitudinal cohort study of Mexican teachers, there were no differences between the 2 modalities with the beta coefficients per 1 SD change in the original and operationalized GDQS scores being nearly identical for weight gain (-0.37 and -0.36, respectively, P < 0.001 for linear trend for both models) and of the same clinical order of magnitude for waist circumference (-0.52 and -0.44, respectively, P < 0.001 for linear trend for both models).CONCLUSION: The operationalized GDQS cutoffs did not change the performance of the GDQS and therefore are recommended for use to collect GDQS data in the future.</p
First bounds on the very high energy gamma-ray emission from Arp 220
Using the Major Atmospheric Gamma Imaging Cherenkov Telescope (MAGIC), we
have observed the nearest ultra-luminous infrared galaxy Arp 220 for about 15
hours. No significant signal was detected within the dedicated amount of
observation time. The first upper limits to the very high energy -ray

MAGIC observations of very high energy gamma-rays from HESS J1813-178
Recently, the HESS collaboration has reported the detection of gamma-ray
emission above a few hundred GeV from eight new sources located close to the
Galactic Plane. The source HESS J1813-178 has sparked particular interest, as
subsequent radio observations imply an association with SNR G12.82-0.02.
Triggered by the detection in VHE gamma-rays, a positionally coincident source
has also been found in INTEGRAL and ASCA data. In this Letter we present MAGIC
observations of HESS J1813-178, resulting in the detection of a differential
gamma-ray flux consistent with a hard-slope power law, described as dN/(dA dt
dE) = (3.3+/-0.5)*10^{-12} (E/TeV)^{-2.1+/-0.2} cm^(-2)s^(-1)TeV^(-1). We
briefly discuss the observational technique used, the procedure implemented for
the data analysis, and put this detection in the perspective of multifrequency

Upper limit for gamma-ray emission above 140 GeV from the dwarf spheroidal galaxy Draco
The nearby dwarf spheroidal galaxy Draco with its high mass to light ratio is
one of the most auspicious targets for indirect dark matter searches.
Annihilation of hypothetical DM particles can result in high-energy gamma-rays,
e.g. from neutralino annihilation in the supersymmetric framework. With the
MAGIC telescope a search for a possible DM signal originating from Draco was
performed during 2007. The analysis of the data results in a flux upper limit
of 1.1x10^-11 photons cm^-2 sec^-1 for photon energies above 140 GeV, assuming
a point like source. Furthermore, a comparison with predictions from
supersymmetric models is given. While our results do not constrain the mSUGRA
phase parameter space, a very high flux enhancement can be ruled out.Comment: Accepted for publication by Astrophysical Journa
Constraints on the steady and pulsed very high energy gamma-ray emission from observations of PSR B1951+32/CTB 80 with the MAGIC Telescope
We report on very high energy gamma-observations with the MAGIC Telescope of
the pulsar PSR B1951+32 and its associated nebula, CTB 80. Our data constrain
the cutoff energy of the pulsar to be less than 32 GeV, assuming the pulsed
gamma-ray emission to be exponentially cut off. The upper limit on the flux of
pulsed gamma-ray emission above 75 GeV is 4.3*10^-11 photons cm^-2 sec^-1, and
the upper limit on the flux of steady emission above 140 GeV is 1.5*10^-11
photons cm^-2 sec^-1. We discuss our results in the framework of recent model

MAGIC upper limits on the very high energy emission from GRBs
The fast repositioning system of the MAGIC Telescope has allowed during its
first data cycle, between 2005 and the beginning of year 2006, observing nine
different GRBs as possible sources of very high energy gammas. These
observations were triggered by alerts from Swift, HETE-II, and Integral; they
started as fast as possible after the alerts and lasted for several minutes,
with an energy threshold varying between 80 and 200 GeV, depending upon the
zenith angle of the burst. No evidence for gamma signals was found, and upper
limits for the flux were derived for all events, using the standard analysis
chain of MAGIC. For the bursts with measured redshift, the upper limits are
compatible with a power law extrapolation, when the intrinsic fluxes are
evaluated taking into account the attenuation due to the scattering in the

Implementation of the Random Forest Method for the Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescope MAGIC
The paper describes an application of the tree classification method Random
Forest (RF), as used in the analysis of data from the ground-based gamma
telescope MAGIC. In such telescopes, cosmic gamma-rays are observed and have to
be discriminated against a dominating background of hadronic cosmic-ray
particles. We describe the application of RF for this gamma/hadron separation.
The RF method often shows superior performance in comparison with traditional
semi-empirical techniques. Critical issues of the method and its implementation
are discussed. An application of the RF method for estimation of a continuous
parameter from related variables, rather than discrete classes, is also
