Invariant Regions and Global Asymptotic Stability in an Isothermal Catalyst

    Get PDF
A well-known model for the evolution of the (space-dependent) concentration and (lumped) temperature in a porous catalyst is considered. A sequence of invariant regions of the phase space is given, which converges to a globally asymptotically stable region BB. Quantitative sufficient conditions are obtained for (the region BB to consist of only one point and) the problem to have a (unique) globally asymptotically stable steady state

In the title complex, [Zn(C5H9NO7P2)2(H2O)2], the zinc atom is coordinated by two bidentate zoledronate [zoledronate = (2-(1-imidazole)-1-hydroxy-1,1′-ethylidenediphophonate)] ligands and two water molecules. The coordination number is 6. There is one half-molecule in the asymmetric unit with the zinc atom located on a crystallographic inversion centre. The anion exists as a zwitterion with an overall charge of −1; the protonated nitrogen in the ring has a positive charge and the two phosphonates groups each have a single negative charge. There are two intramolecular O—H⋯O hydrogen bonds. The molecules are linked into a chain by intermolecular O—H⋯O hydrogen bonds. Adjacent chains are further linked by O—H⋯O hydrogen bonds involving the aqua ligands. An N—H⋯O interaction is also observed

Reducing Wasted Food: A Sustainability Initiative at JP\u27s Sports Bar

    Get PDF
The purpose of this project is to create a sustainability culture for reducing wasted food at JP’s Sports Bar. A training intervention was created explaining the impact of, ways to reduce, and how to track wasted food. Using a pre- and post-training design, data from observations and a survey will establish baseline information; assess employees’ current knowledge, attitudes, and engagement in reducing wasted food; and determine if a reduction in waste has occurred. Creating a culture of reducing wasted food ensures that employees understand the importance of reducing wasted food and its role in promoting a more sustainable campus

Introduction: physical education teachers are required to carry out intervention programs for students to achieve health-enhancing flexibility levels. Unfortunately, to our knowledge, there are no studies examining the effect of a stretching program carried out only once a week on schoolchildren. Objectives: the purpose of the present study was to compare the effects of a short-term stretching intervention program performed once and twice a week on hamstring extensibility among schoolchildren in the physical education setting. Methods: a sample of 180 high school students aged 12-14 years old was randomly assigned (by natural groups) to a control group, experimental group 1 and experimental group 2. During physical education classes, experimental group students performed a stretching program for eight weeks. The experimental group 1 and 2 performed the stretching program once and twice a week, respectively. Results: the analysis of variance results showed that the students of both experimental groups improved statistically significantly their hamstring extensibility when compared with the control group students (p 0.05). Conclusions: a short-term stretching program performed only once a week improves hamstring extensibility in schoolchildren. When the stretching program is performed twice a week, the improvement in students ́ hamstring extensibility is not statistically higher. Daniel Mayorga-Vega is supported by a research grant from the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport (AP2010-5905)

Clash of Titans: The Impact of Cluster Mergers in the Galaxy Cluster Red Sequence

Merging of galaxy clusters are some of the most energetic events in the Universe, and they provide a unique environment to study galaxy evolution. We use a sample of 84 merging and relaxed SPT galaxy clusters candidates, observed with the Dark Energy Camera in the 0.11<z<0.880.11<z<0.88 redshift range, to build colour-magnitude diagrams to characterize the impact of cluster mergers on the galaxy population. We divided the sample between relaxed and disturbed, and in two redshifts bin at z=0.55z = 0.55. When comparing the high-z to low-z clusters we find the high-z sample is richer in blue galaxies, independently of the cluster dynamical state. In the high-z bin we find that disturbed clusters exhibit a larger scatter in the Red Sequence, with wider distribution and an excess of bluer galaxies compared to relaxed clusters, while in the low-z bin we find a complete agreement between the relaxed and disturbed clusters. Our results support the scenario in which massive cluster halos at z<0.55z<0.55 galaxies are quenched as satellites of another structure, i.e. outside the cluster, while at z0.55z \geq 0.55 the quenching is dominated by in-situ processes.Comment: 9 pages, 5 figures, paper accepted in MNRA

Total or partial replacement of fishmeal with soybean meal in the diet of the Pacific fat sleeper Dormitator latifrons juveniles

Groups of Dormitator latifrons in triplicate (4.1 ± 2.0 g and 6.2 ± 1.0 cm) were fed experimental diets containing four levels of substitution of fishmeal (FM) by soybean meal (SM) (0, 40, 70, and 100%, respectively). The diets were formulated to be isoproteic (35% crude protein) and isolipidic (8.0% crude lipids). The effect of each treatment on growth was evaluated and its implications on the cost of feeding. After 60 days of feeding, there were no significant differences in the fish's proximate composition (P < 0.05). There were no significant differences between the diets (P < 0.05) in the evaluated biological indices: total growth increase (TGI), specific growth rate (SGR), thermal growth coefficient (TGC), and survival (%). Feeding costs decreased significantly as the proportion of soybean meal in the diet increased. The results indicated that substituting FM by up to 100% of SM can promote adequate growth in D. latifrons without affecting body composition and survival while also reducing operative costs during the fattening process.Fil: Badillo Zapata, Daniel.
