Income Earning Potential versus Consumptive Amenities in Determining Ranchland Values
The relative importance of income earning potential versus consumptive values in setting ranchland prices is examined using a truncated hedonic model. The market value of New Mexico ranches is related to annual income earning potential and other ranch characteristics including ranch size, location, elevation, terrain, and the amount of deeded, public, and state trust land on the ranch. We found ranch income to be a statistically important determinant of land value, but yet a relatively small percentage of ranch value was explained by income earnings. Extension of charge-state-distribution calculations for ion-solid collisions towards low velocities and many-electron ions
Knowledge of the detailed evolution of the whole charge-state distribution of projectile ions colliding with targets is required in several fields of research such as material science and atomic and nuclear physics but also in accelerator physics, and in particular in regard to the several foreseen large-scale facilities. However, there is a lack of data for collisions in the nonperturbative energy domain and that involve many-electron projectiles. Starting from the etacha model we developed [Rozet, Nucl. Instrum. Methods Phys. Res., Sect. B 107, 67 (1996)10.1016/0168-583X(95)00800-4], we present an extension of its validity domain towards lower velocities and larger distortions. Moreover, the system of rate equations is able to take into account ions with up to 60 orbital states of electrons. The computed data from the different new versions of the etacha code are compared to some test collision systems. The improvements made are clearly illustrated by 28.9MeVu-1Pb56+ ions, and laser-generated carbon ion beams of 0.045 to 0.5MeVu-1, passing through carbon or aluminum targets, respectively. Hence, those new developments can efficiently sustain the experimental programs that are currently in progress on the "next-generation" accelerators or laser facilities.Fil: Lamour, E.. A Chandra View Of Nonthermal Emission In The Northwestern Region Of Supernova Remnant RCW 86: Particle Acceleration And Magnetic Fields
The shocks of supernova remnants (SNRs) are believed to accelerate particles
to cosmic ray (CR) energies. The amplification of the magnetic field due to CRs
propagating in the shock region is expected to have an impact on both the
emission from the accelerated particle population, as well as the acceleration
process itself. Using a 95 ks observation with the Advanced CCD Imaging
Spectrometer (ACIS) onboard the Chandra X-ray Observatory, we map and
characterize the synchrotron emitting material in the northwestern region of
RCW 86. We model spectra from several different regions, filamentary and
diffuse alike, where emission appears dominated by synchrotron radiation. The
fine spatial resolution of Chandra allows us to obtain accurate emission
profiles across 3 different non-thermal rims in this region. The narrow width
(l = 10''-30'') of these filaments constrains the minimum magnetic field

In vivo and in vitro assessment of mirtazapine pharmacokinetics in cats with liver disease.
BackgroundLiver disease (LD) prolongs mirtazapine half-life in humans, but it is unknown if this occurs in cats with LD and healthy cats.Hypothesis/objectivesTo determine pharmacokinetics of administered orally mirtazapine in vivo and in vitro (liver microsomes) in cats with LD and healthy cats.AnimalsEleven LD and 11 age-matched control cats.MethodsCase-control study. Serum was obtained 1 and 4 hours (22 cats) and 24 hours (14 cats) after oral administration of 1.88 mg mirtazapine. Mirtazapine concentrations were measured by liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry. Drug exposure and half-life were predicted using limited sampling modeling and estimated using noncompartmental methods. in vitro mirtazapine pharmacokinetics were assessed using liver microsomes from 3 LD cats and 4 cats without LD.ResultsThere was a significant difference in time to maximum serum concentration between LD cats and control cats (median [range]: 4 [1-4] hours versus 1 [1-4] hours; P = .03). The calculated half-life of LD cats was significantly prolonged compared to controls (median [range]: 13.8 [7.9-61.4] hours versus 7.4 [6.7-9.1] hours; P < .002). Mirtazapine half-life was correlated with ALT (P = .002; r = .76), ALP (P < .0001; r = .89), and total bilirubin (P = .0008; r = .81). The rate of loss of mirtazapine was significantly different between microsomes of LD cats (-0.0022 min-1 , CI: -0.0050 to 0.00054 min-1 ) and cats without LD (0.01849 min-1 , CI: -0.025 to -0.012 min-1 ; P = .002).Conclusions and clinical importanceCats with LD might require less frequent administration of mirtazapine than normal cats
The Role of Stellar Feedback in the Dynamics of HII Regions
Stellar feedback is often cited as the biggest uncertainty in galaxy
formation models today. This uncertainty stems from a dearth of observational
constraints as well as the great dynamic range between the small scales (<1 pc)
where the feedback occurs and the large scales of galaxies (>1 kpc) that are
shaped by this feedback. To bridge this divide, in this paper we aim to assess
observationally the role of stellar feedback at the intermediate scales of HII
regions. In particular, we employ multiwavelength data to examine several
stellar feedback mechanisms in a sample of 32 HII regions in the Large and
Small Magellanic Clouds (LMC and SMC, respectively). Using optical, infrared,
radio, and X-ray images, we measure the pressures exerted on the shells from
the direct stellar radiation, the dust-processed radiation, the warm ionized
gas, and the hot X-ray emitting gas. We find that the warm ionized gas
dominates over the other terms in all of the sources, although two have
comparable dust-processed radiation pressures to their warm gas pressures. The
hot gas pressures are comparatively weak, while the direct radiation pressures
are 1-2 orders of magnitude below the other terms. We discuss the implications
of these results, particularly highlighting evidence for hot gas leakage from
the HII shells and regarding the momentum deposition from the dust-processed
radiation to the warm gas. Furthermore, we emphasize that similar observational
work should be done on very young HII regions to test whether direct radiation

Matching in vitro bioaccessibility of polyphenols and antioxidant capacity of soluble coffee by Boosted Regression Trees
The aim of this study was to evaluate changes in polyphenol profile and antioxidant capacity of five soluble coffees throughout a simulated gastro-intestinal digestion, including absorption through a dialysis membrane. Our results demonstrate that both polyphenol content and antioxidant capacity were characteristic for each type of studied coffee, showing a drop after dialysis. Twenty-seven compounds were identified in coffee by HPLC-MS, while only 14 of them were found after dialysis. Green+roasted coffee blend and chicory+coffee blend showed the highest and lowest content of polyphenols and antioxidant capacity before in vitro digestion and after dialysis, respectively. Canonical correlation analysis showed significant correlation between the antioxidant capacity and the polyphenol profile before digestion and after dialysis. Furthermore, boosted regression trees analysis (BRT) showed that only four polyphenol compounds (5-p-coumaroylquinic acid, quinic acid, coumaroyl tryptophan conjugated, and 5-O-caffeoylquinic acid) appear to be the most relevant to explain the antioxidant capacity after dialysis, these compounds being the most bioaccessible after dialysis. To our knowledge, this is the first report matching the antioxidant capacity of foods with the polyphenol profile by BRT, which opens an interesting method of analysis for future reports on the antioxidant capacity of foods.Fil: Podio, Natalia Soledad. A Cu2+ (S = 1/2) Kagom\'e Antiferromagnet: MgxCu4-x(OH)6Cl2
Spin-frustrated systems are one avenue for inducing macroscopic quantum
states in materials. However, experimental realization of this goal has been
difficult because of the lack of simple materials and, if available, the
separation of the unusual magnetic properties arising from exotic magnetic
states from behavior associated with chemical disorder, such as site mixing.
Here we report the synthesis and magnetic properties of a new series of
magnetically frustrated materials, MgxCu4-x(OH)6Cl2. Because of the
substantially different ligand-field chemistry of Mg2+ and Cu2+, site disorder
within the kagom\'e layers is minimized, as directly measured by X-ray
diffraction. Our results reveal that many of the properties of these materials
and related systems are not due to disorder of the magnetic lattice but rather

Phase-coherence threshold and vortex-glass state in diluted Josephson-junction arrays in a magnetic field
We study numerically the interplay of phase coherence and vortex-glass state
in two-dimensional Josephson-junction arrays with average rational values of
flux quantum per plaquette and random dilution of junctions. For ,
we find evidence of a phase coherence threshold value , below the
percolation concentration of diluted junctions , where the superconducting
transition vanishes. For the array behaves as a
zero-temperature vortex glass with nonzero linear resistance at finite
temperatures. The zero-temperature critical currents are insensitive to
variations in in the vortex glass region while they are strongly
