    Synthesis and Characterization of ÎČ-Cyclodextrin/alginate Nanoparticle as a Novel Drug Delivery System

    The aim of this work was to study a novel nanoparticle system formed from alginate and ÎČ-cyclodextrin by ionotropic gelation method and to evaluate their potential for the association and delivery of drugs. The nanoparticles were prepared by electrostatic interactions between Ca2+/alginate gel and ÎČ-cyclodextrin. Morphology and structure characterization of nanoparticles was investigated by scanning electron micrographs (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM), Fourier transform infrared spectra (FTIR). The nanoparticle size was about 50 – 80 nm and their structure quite regular and consistent. Ketoprofen, chosen as a model drug, was incorporated into the nanocarriers with association efficiency of 50.7 % and loading efficiency of 5.7 %. Ketoprofen released from the nanoparticles was 57 % at pH 7.4 and 69 % at pH 5.0 for 4 h

    SOME REMARKS ON THE LOGARITHMIC SIGNATURES OF FINITE ABELIAN GROUPS

    In the paper about the cryptosystem MST3, Svaba and Trung pro- posed a way to build a cryptosystem based on the concept of logarithmic signa- tures, and they choose Suzuki\u27s group, which is not abelian for implementing. Recently, to reason why these methods cannot be applied to abelian groups; Sv- aba, Trung and Wolf developed some algorithms to factorize the fused transver- sal logarithmic signatures (FTLS). Their attacks can be avoided by some mod- ications, which is the aim of this paper, where we will use the weakness of the discrete logarithm problem (DLP) to propose two cryptosystems. The rst one is based on the new concept about quasi-logarithmic signature of nite solvable groups, which is the generalization of logarithmic signatures. The second is built on the logarithmic signatures of nite cyclic 2-groups, which include two interesting examples on Pell\u27s curves and elliptic curves over nite elds

    Effect of ciprofloxacin dosages on the performance of sponge membrane bioreactor treating hospital wastewater

    © 2018 Elsevier Ltd This study aimed to evaluate treatment performance and membrane fouling of a lab-scale Sponge-MBR under the added ciprofloxacin (CIP) dosages (20; 50; 100 and 200 ”g L−1) treating hospital wastewater. The results showed that Sponge-MBR exhibited effective removal of COD (94–98%) during the operation period despite increment of CIP concentrations from 20 to 200 ”g L−1. The applied CIP dosage of 200 ”g L−1 caused an inhibition of microorganisms in sponges, i.e. significant reduction of the attached biomass and a decrease in the size of suspended flocs. Moreover, this led to deteriorating the denitrification rate to 3–12% compared to 35% at the other lower CIP dosages. Importantly, Sponge-MBR reinforced the stability of CIP removal at various added CIP dosages (permeate of below 13 ”g L−1). Additionally, the fouling rate at CIP dosage of 200 ”g L−1 was 30.6 times lower compared to the control condition (no added CIP dosage)

    Agent Orange, which was sprayed in southern Vietnam by the American government, was the main source of dioxin exposure in Vietnam. From the early 1990s, agriculture of Vietnam has attained advances under intensive cultivation. Both production and yields per crop has raised significantly at the farm level, but, on the other hand, the quantity of pesticides used in agriculture has been increased in the absence of regulations and good practices. Illegal business of pesticides with false labels, as well as marketing of expired or poor quality products in stores without license are so popular in Vietnam. Misuse and improper use in agriculture in Vietnam has led to a variety of problems, such as environment pollution (including food producing animals) and adverse health impact on animals and humans. Open dumpsites worsen the general scenario. Similar to the environmental exposure, human exposure to DDT in Vietnam was ranked among the highest worldwide, with recognized effects. Exposed communities have to face birth defects, health disorders and non-communicable diseases (NCDs), from metabolic syndrome, asthma, infertility and other reproductive disorders through to diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases, and cancer. A common feature of many chronic disorders and NCDs is metabolic disruption: environmental chemical factors disturb cellular homeostasis, thus affecting the ability of the body to restore a functional internal environment. Among these, endocrine disrupting pesticides can interfere with the action of hormones including metabolic hormones, and are likely to represent the main concern for developmentally-induced NCDs. Since pesticides are often persistent and bio-accumulate in the food chain through the living environment of food-producing organisms, this paper discusses relevant aspects of risk assessment, risk communication and risk management

    Phenotypic Screening of Drought-Tolerant Lines for Brown Planthopper, Blast and Phytic Acid Content Assay of Rice (Oryza sativa L.)

    Advanced drought tolerant lines were analysed for blast disease, brown planthopper (BPH), and phytic acid content. Thirsty lines of BC2F4 derived from OMCS2000/ IR75499-73-1 were used to screen for BPH and blast resistance. Three good resistant lines were screened against blast (45, 54, and 310) under greenhouse condition. As eight lines were identified to be resistant to BPH. The results further reveal that BC2F4-45 was the best line resistant to both BPH and blast disease. These lines will be useful in reducing grain phytic acid and improving the nutritional value of rice grain. Based on an assay for high phosphate germination stage of rice, the lowest content was found in the I5 variety (line 45). Hence, this line provides the urgent objective for breeders in cultivars of these crops to genetically enhance a healthy and functional diet. These characters will then need to be incorporated into high yield under drought stress with others such as disease and insect resistance

    Class based Influence Functions for Error Detection

    Influence functions (IFs) are a powerful tool for detecting anomalous examples in large scale datasets. However, they are unstable when applied to deep networks. In this paper, we provide an explanation for the instability of IFs and develop a solution to this problem. We show that IFs are unreliable when the two data points belong to two different classes. Our solution leverages class information to improve the stability of IFs. Extensive experiments show that our modification significantly improves the performance and stability of IFs while incurring no additional computational cost.Comment: Thang Nguyen-Duc, Hoang Thanh-Tung, and Quan Hung Tran are co-first authors of this paper. 12 pages, 12 figures.
