Reflection and Emotional Well-Being in Nietzsche and Zhuang Zi

    Get PDF
Nietzsche and Zhuang Zi both believe that the supposed value of certain emotions they deem harmful should be questioned and that reflection can be utilized to change the emotions. They intend to disabuse those of their respective times of conventional morality, with the aim of achieving a state in which negative moral emotions are eliminated and a more natural way of life is embraced. Specifically, Nietzsche examines guilt, a remnant of an ascetic morality endorsed by the religious elite; Zhuang Zi, similarly, considers grief, a moral emotion tied to traditional culture and endorsed by Confucian morality. Living naturally involves the absence of psychic conflict that accompanies negative emotions; it also involves a psychological ease within ourselves and with the world

Investigation of overhang effect on cutting tool vibration for tool condition monitoring

    Get PDF
Vibration measurement is one of the most widely used indirect methods of tool condition monitring, but vibration signal features may be affected by overhang lenght. In turning process, it is known that for the best overall machining results, tool overhang should be kept to a minimum. However, a longer tool overhang may be required depending on the geometry of the workpiece and in situations such as internal turning process. The long overhang increases vibration. In this paper the relations between tool overhang and the most commonly used signal features is investigated

Median Road Revitalization as an Alternative Way to Overcome Flood on Jalan Asrama, Helvetia, Medan - Indonesia

    Get PDF
Jalan Asrama, Helvetia Medan, is one of the areas in Medan that is often flooded. The puddle of water on Jalan Asrama, especially at the intersection of Gaperta Street, is already very alarming because the puddles that occur can reach heights of up to 0.5 meters so that it greatly disrupts traffic activity at that location. The cause is the inadequate condition of infrastructure facilities; one of the infrastructures referred to is the drainage and utilization of the Median Road that is not optimal. The purpose of this research is to find out the factors that cause flood inundation on the road bodies around Jalan Asrama-Medan following offer a solution by revitalizing the median Road as one way to overcome the flood. The research method used descriptive qualitative research methods. Namely by conducting research directly into the field and conducting library studies on various types of reading material related to the object of study in this study, among others in the form of books, journals, articles, and written works in the form of print media and internet media. This study concludes that the occurrence of inundation in the bodies of roads around Jalan Asrama, Helvetia, is caused by several factors. First, high rainfall, the two dimensions of drainage channels are not suitable in some parts; third is sedimentation and rubbish, which reduce the dimensions of the channel and inhibit the flow rate of water. Moreover, one solution that can be done is to revitalize the median of the road, which hopes can overcome the flood

On pump coronary surgical revascularization in a patient with chronic immune thrombocytopenic purpura

We performed on-pump coronary artery bypass graft surgery on a 54-year-old female, known case of chronic Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), hypertension and dyslipidaemia who had presented to us with progressive exertional shortness of breath and chest pain. The decision of going on with CABG was made after two weeks of preoperative treatment with prednisolone. Her platelet counts pre-operatively and on the 4th post-operative day were 135 x 10(9)/L and 32 x 10(9)/L. She had an unremarkable post-operative recovery, without requiring whole blood or platelet transfusions. We recommend preoperative steroid treatment in patients with chronic ITP undergoing CABG

Implementation of Deep CNN Model for the Detection of Plant Leaf Disease

The potato is the most important tuber crop in the world, and it is grown in about 125 different nations. Potato is the crop that is most commonly consumed by a billion people worldwide, virtually every day, behind rice and wheat. However, a number of bacterial and fungal diseases are causing the potato crop's quality and yield to decline. Potato Leaf diseases must be promptly identified and prevented to increase production. Various researchers look for solutions to protect plants instead of   traditional processes which take more time. Recent technological developments have thrown up many alternates to traditional methods which are labour intensive. The application of AlexNet model Deep Convolutional Neural Network(CNN) to recognise diseases in potato plants avoids the disadvantages of selecting disease spot features artificially and makes more objective the plant disease feature extraction. It improves research efficiency and speeds up technology transformation. Accuracies ranging from 85% - to 95% were obtained using AlexNet model Deep

Self-burning: A common and tragic way of suicide in fars province, Iran

    Get PDF
Self-burning is the most devastating burn injury. It is a common social and medical problem in Iran. In a longitudinal prospective study, from April 2003 to March 2006, all burn patients admitted to Ghotb-eddin burn Hospital were enrolled in this study. Suicide attempts by burning accounted for 283 (21.9%) of all burn patients admitted to the hospital. Most (68.2%) of self-burning patients were female. Self-burn patients had significantly large burned body surface area (64.8±29%). Suicidal burns occurred predominantly in the age group 15-24 years (44.6%). The mortality rate for suicidal burns was (60.4%). Fars is a province composed of many different tribes and cultural minorities whereby major decisions are made by forums of clergymen. It is important to involve those clergymen in burn prevention programs to achieve a meaningful reduction in Self-burning prevalence

Hepatitis B/C virus co-infection in Iran: A seroepidemiological study

    Get PDF
Background/aims: As hepatitis B and C virus have the same transmission routes, dual infection may occur. The aim of this study was to determine the seroprevalence of HCV in HBsAg-positive subjects. Methods: 139 HBsAg-positive subjects were enrolled in the study. Serum samples were tested using ELISA method for anti-HCV antibodies. Chi-square and Fisher's exact tests were used to compare the proportions. Results: There were 68 (48.9%) males and 71 (51.1%) females. The mean age was 41.89±11.30 years. One case was excluded because of inadequate blood sampling. Anti-HCV antibody was positive in 17 (12.3%) of the 138 remaining subjects. Seropositivity of HCV was similar between female and male patients (p=0.69). Conclusion: The seroprevalence of co-infection with hepatitis B virus and hepatitis C virus in our study was higher than such reports from some countries (Italy), but was in line with worldwide prevalence (>10%)
