    A user guide for the MPP (Mission Planning Processor) is presented. The MPP is used in the evaluation of particular missions, with appropriate display and storage of related consumables data. Design goals are accomplished by the use of an on-line/demand mode computer terminal Cathode Ray Tube Display.     Proportionality Between Population Descriptors (Covariables) in an Aggregated Acanthocephalan (Helminth) Infection of a Microcrustacean: Crofton Revisited

    We have previously shown that population parameters of the trematode metacercariae of Clinostomum marginatum in black bass (Micropterus spp.) were closely correlated with each other with the exception of prevalence (Daly et al. 2007, Daly (2014). Crofton (1971) and Haynes and Nicholas (1963) published raw data on an acanthocephalan, (Polymorphus minutus) in an amphipod intermediate host collected on 6 different sites on a stream. That data was used herein to examine similar correlations, as with Clinostomum, to see if another helminth infection, in this case from a different phylum, also had similar descriptor relationships. Forty one regression analyses were done on parameter data from the populations of P. minutus as described by Crofton and Haynes and Nichols. Descriptors used were mean abundance and standard deviation, maximum number, prevalence, mean intensity and standard deviation, dispersion coefficient, and skewness and kurtosis (shape parameters of the population curves). Results showed that the parameters most usually reported to describe helminth infections were, as with Clinostomum, strongly correlated with each other. One difference being prevalence, in which P. minutus prevalence was significantly correlated with other parameters. Dispersion coefficients (standard deviation/mean) were independent (not significant) of an effect by the other parameters. Skewness and kurtosis were very highly correlated within the two population types (mean and mean intensity) but not with other descriptors. Since population parameters are important in the description of parasitic infections, it would seem that more data on more helminths are needed to determine if this proportionality is a universal phenomenon of stochastic and random helminth infections or just coincidentally found in C. marginatum and P. minutus juvenile infections

    Developing Interventions for Children's Exercise (DICE): a pilot evaluation of school-based exercise interventions for primary school children aged 7 to 8 years.

    BACKGROUND: Developing Interventions for Children's Exercise (DICE) is an initiative aimed at determining effective school-based exercise programs. To assess feasibility, we conducted a pilot study of exercise sessions which varied in duration and frequency. METHODS: Exercise interventions were delivered to Year 3 pupils (age 7-8 years; n = 73) in primary schools within Yorkshire, UK. Evaluations were conducted using focus group sessions, questionnaires and observations. RESULTS: The study revealed positive aspects of all interventions, including favorable effects on children's concentration during lessons and identified the value of incorporation of the DICE concept into curriculum lessons. Children appeared enthused and reported well-being and enjoyment. Areas requiring attention were the need for appropriate timetabling of sessions and ensuring the availability of space. CONCLUSION: The concept and sessions were well-accepted by teachers who confirmed their full support of any future implementation There appears to be potential for the encouragement and empowerment of teachers to support physical activity and healthy school environments, and to take an interest in the health of their pupils. Ultimately, these findings should assist in the design of successful exercise interventions in the school setting

    Software design specifications for developing environmental control and life support system (ECLSS) and electrical power system (EPS) programs into interactive computer programs are presented. Specifications for the ECLSS program are at the detail design level with respect to modification of an existing batch mode program. The FORTRAN environmental analysis routines (FEAR) are the subject batch mode program. The characteristics of the FEAR program are included for use in modifying batch mode programs to form interactive programs. The EPS program specifications are at the preliminary design level.
