Objectives: Genetic variants in Toll-like receptors (TLRs) are considered a potential indicator for host susceptibility to and outcome of several infectious diseases including tuberculosis. The aim of this study was to determine whether −129 C/G and Met1Val polymorphisms of TLR8 were associated with pediatric pulmonary tuberculosis in Turkish population

Systemic capillary leak syndrome associated with pleural effusion

    No full text
Systemic capillary leak syndrome presents with recurrent episodes of shock due to leakage of the plasma, which is reflected by accompanying hemoconcentration, hypoalbuminemia and edema. We report the case of a 12-year-old girl with hypovolemic shock with generalized edema and pleural effusion. An initial diagnosis of sepsis was made, but the lack of fever and absence of a demonstrable organism or source led to a revision of the diagnosis to systemic capillary leak syndrome. We emphasize the importance of early diagnosis and of prompt and aggressive fluid replacement. (Turk Arch Ped 2010; 45: 61-3
