Perturbed Self-Similar Massless Scalar Field in the Spacetimes with Circular Symmetry in 2+1 Gravity

We present in this work the study of the linear perturbations of the 2+1-dimensional circularly symmetric solution, obtained in a previous work, with kinematic self-similarity of the second kind. We have obtained an exact solution for the perturbation equations and the possible perturbation modes. We have shown that the background solution is a stable solution.Comment: no figure

Gravitational Collapse of Massless Scalar Field with Negative Cosmological Constant in (2+1) Dimensions

The 2+1-dimensional geodesic circularly symmetric solutions of Einstein-massless-scalar field equations with negative cosmological constant are found and their local and global properties are studied. It is found that one of them represents gravitational collapse where black holes are always formed.Comment: no figure

    Get PDF

Immunomodulatory effects of palladium(II) complexes of 1,2,4-triazole on murine peritoneal macrophages

The 1,2,4-triazolyl-bridged polynuclear complexes [{PdCl(2)(mu-Htrz)}(n)] (1) and [{PdBr(2)(mu-Htrz)}(n)] (2) have been obtained in this work. Compound 1 is prepared by the displacement of acetonitrile from [PdCl(2)(MeCN)(2)] by 1,2,4-triazole (Htrz). Further addition of potassium bromide to the reaction medium afforded complex 2. The new complexes have been isolated, purified and characterized by means of elemental analysis, IR and UV-visible electronic spectroscopies and thermogravimetric (TG) curves. The experimental data suggested that, in both cases, the coordination of 1,2,4-Htrz takes place through the N(2) and N(4) atoms, bridging the palladium centers. The square-planar coordination polyhedron of palladium(II) is determined by two nitrogen atoms from the triazole ligands, while the other two coordination positions are occupied by the chloro (1) or bromo (2) ligands. TG curves indicated that the nature of the anionic ligand does not affect significantly the thermal stability of 1 and 2. The final products of the thermal decompositions were identified as metallic palladium by X-ray powder diffractometry. Preliminary tests involving the evaluation of the effects of compounds 1, 2 and Htrz on H(2)O(2) and NO production in cultures of peritoneal macrophages from BALB/c mice were carried out in vitro

Synchrotron X-ray studies on polyamide composites prepared by reactive injection molding

Semicrystalline polyamide 6 (PA6) and composites on its basis are among the most frequently used polymer materials for highly demanding applications. The performance of these composites depends on the crystalline structure of the PA6 matrix in which two crystalline forms most frequently coexist: α- and γ-polymorphs. This work reports on the crystalline structure of a variety of composite materials produced by in-mold reactive polymerization of caprolactam in specially designed semi-automatic equipment for reactive processing of nylons (NYRIM), carried out in the presence of particulate mineral reinforcements (natural or-ganically treated aluminum silicates and synthetic titanosilicates), PA6 oriented monofilaments and textile structures of glass fibers. The morphology and the crystalline structure of all composites were studied by syn-chrotron X-ray diffraction. Transcrystalline PA6 layer was observed in all fibrous PA6 laminates whose struc-ture fine crystalline structure was accessed.Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia; German Synchrotorn Radiation Source - DESY, Hambur

Emergence of magnetism in graphene materials and nanostructures

Magnetic materials and nanostructures based on carbon offer unique opportunities for future technological applications such as spintronics. This article reviews graphene-derived systems in which magnetic correlations emerge as a result of reduced dimensions, disorder and other possible scenarios. In particular, zero-dimensional graphene nanofragments, one-dimensional graphene nanoribbons, and defect-induced magnetism in graphene and graphite are covered. Possible physical mechanisms of the emergence of magnetism in these systems are illustrated with the help of computational examples based on simple model Hamiltonians. In addition, this review covers spin transport properties, proposed designs of graphene-based spintronic devices, magnetic ordering at finite temperatures as well as the most recent experimental achievements.Comment: tutorial-style review article -- 18 pages, 19 figure
